There's an idea out there that our Obama admin. now thinks this Waxman-Markey cap and trade bill is a losing issue. I'm sure he'll talk about it some, but, the effort is not going to be there. After Australia shut down PM Rudd's efforts and seeing Europe's cap and trade market collapse, going from 30 Euros per tonne to under 8 Euros recently. Even Al Gore wouldn't invest a trip to DC to personally twist arms. Then there's that EPA report that the Obama admin tried to quash. Good reason, while it says CO2 emissions have increased, global temps have been in an 11 year decrease. Oops, it even goes out there that Greenland isn't melting away. OOPs

"Reality is what I make up and pick out of my ass at that moment..
Remember I make up new "facts" every 30 seconds and I'm not responsible if they are contradictory..."
psycho-pete©...
polluting the blogosphere with new propaganda every 30 seconds....
More turds from the ratbrain peter.
For those who care, Deep Climate has a post up about the draft EPA report ("EPA's Alan Carlin channels Pat Michaels", 6/28/09). The draft was not quashed, it was merely incompetent, drafted by a denialist economist at an economic agency within EPA, not a scientist.
It simply regurgitated long debunked denialist talking points, and even plagiarized denialist websites in the section about Greenland which our little shitbrain Pter the turd crows about. The second author of the draft has apparently now pulled out, leaving the foolish EPA economist as the sole author of the stale nonsense. The actual climate scientists at Real Climate dismiss the draft as worthless nonsense whose author doesn't even understand the concepts he "discusses".
So as usual Peter burps out the stench of another pile of dog shit he ingested with immense satisfaction. I continue to be mystified why TLC does not immediately remove all of peter's "comments" about global warming. He is an ignorant denialist who is happily using the site to spread the latest disinformation that his "team" disseminates.
Posted by euzoius at June 29, 2009 04:50 AMGlobal Mean Temp Increase
Global warming is now 0.6°C in the past three decades and 0.8°C in the past century.
From NASA....you know psycho-pete©...
They do that "sciency" thing you republiKKKon's can't understand...and try to suppress...and deny....
Hey headless...your link is from 2005. Got anything more recent?
Like this:
Global Temperature Trends: 2008 Annual Summation
Originally posted Dec. 16, 2008, with meteorological year data. Updated Jan. 13, 2009, with calendar year data.
Calendar year 2008 was the coolest year since 2000, according to the Goddard Institute for Space Studies analysis [see ref. 1] of surface air temperature measurements."
From NASA.
hey asshole it doesn't change the fact:
Global warming is now 0.6°C in the past three decades and 0.8°C in the past century.
But you lack the intellect to grasp facts don't you ape-man....
if you expect anyone to look at your reference learn to link..
oh I forgot you lack the intellect to do that too...
I shouldn't expect much from a republiKKKon asswipe like you ape-man..
"The second author of the draft has apparently now pulled out,"
The second author is John Davidson who is an environmental scientist with a PHD from the University of Michigan and now works for the EPA IF he is withdrawing his support for a report he co-authored the most likely reason would be threats from his bosses at the EPA. How can someone help write a report and allow his name to attached allow it to be published, allow it to be sent out with his name attached then later say, I just wrote it...I didn't really mean it. Sure dude. More like, I fear for my job from an EPA that bases decisions based on junk science and intends to use that junk science to raise your taxes.
He probably learned from how this administration has used threats of firing private business execs and other bullying technics with those who oppose it's policies.

Actually it does change those facts. When calculate an average and add in the recent numbers, which are lower, then the new average will also be lower. I know that is some pretty complicated math for one of your mental acumen but if you ask you mommy real nice perhaps she will explain it to you.
Posted by manapp99 at June 29, 2009 08:53 AMnice opinions ape-man..
Apparently like psycho-pete© opinions are all you have....how bout something significant like, oh say a fact?
Darn, I forgot republiKKKon's lack the intellect to deal in reality based facts....
And you expect to be taken seriously, why?
Here's the full article that manapp99 pasted from above.
If you read the whole thing you'll see that manapp99 prettymuch missed the overall import of the thing. But who's surprised about that?
Posted by snark at June 29, 2009 09:04 AMyou apparently have next to no grasp of statistics ape-man...
again I don't expect you to understand it..
the 3 years you are using to cite a lowering of the century mean temp are so small a part of the sample size (n=100 years) that they have little effect on the overall 100 year mean...even if the mean temp's of those 3 years were significantly lower(which they aren't) they would have little effect..
all you are doing is showing your ignorance...
If you want to discuss statistics go attempt to learn what you're talking about....
stupid useless republiKKKons....
Posted by headxray at June 29, 2009 09:09 AMDidn't miss the import at all snark. It says the temps are still one of the 12 hottest however it shows that temps are indeed falling. If you are coming off of the highest temp which was actually in 1938, you will find 1939, 1940 etc, still hot but in a cooling trend. If you look at the next highest year of 2008 and see that it has been generally cooling ever since, the logical conclusion is that we are in a cooling trend currently. This flys in the face of ever increasing CO2. CO2 continues to rise but temps are falling.
That is the import.
Posted by manapp99 at June 29, 2009 09:11 AMIf you look at the next highest year of 2008 and see that it has been generally cooling ever since, the logical conclusion is that we are in a cooling trend currently.
Posted by manapp99 at June 29, 2009 09:11 AM
care to explain exactly how there can be a yearly cooling trend since 2008?
care to explain the figure that mean temp has increased 0.8°C in the last century?
Care to explain exactly why you are trying to use logic? A republiKKKon using logic?
Thats a hoot...
mancrapp0 acts like he is "supported" by the NASA GISS scientists in his "cooling trend" nonsense, but they expressly do not agree with his incompetent interpretation of the temp data.
According to NASA, 2007 was the second warmest year on record, behind the record warmth of 2005. 2007 tied with 1998 for the second warmest years, globally. Actual scientists don't conclude there is a global "cooling trend" because the immediate year following a record year is cooler. Only a scientific illiterate does that.
Indeed, the NASA scientists (in the post mancrap00 references) expressly state they do not believe there is a "cooling trend": "it still seems likely that a new global temperature record will be set within the next 1-2 years".
To read that and conclude that the data "really" shows a "cooling trend" or act like that's what NASA scientists have said is to be intellectually dishonest or an outright liar---both personality charateristics which we see constantly from those who suffer from Conservative White Male Syndrome, like mancrap.
Posted by euzoius at June 29, 2009 10:17 AMFOX cable news: "Bernie Madoff has been sentenced to 150 years which for a 71 year old man is tantamount to a life sentence."
Yes, if only he was 21 he might have seen the light of day again.
Posted by TIKI AL at June 29, 2009 10:50 AMheck fox news probably figures he's an innocent "business man"...
Posted by headxray at June 29, 2009 11:15 AMFox actually has been pretty hard on him. You must remember, HXR, Bernie did the unthinkable and usually impossible, he stole from the upper 1%.
Posted by TIKI AL at June 29, 2009 11:26 AMGOPers like Peter believe they live on a different planet and therefore all this global warming stuff is not going to affect them or their children. They also live in a make belief world where their ideas are always right. These people take pleasure in seeing that any initiative that is good for the humanity or our country is opposed by the Repubs in congress and its passage is in doubt. These are basically sick minded people who put their party ahead of their country or their fellow countrymen.
Fortunately the American young generation has understood the party of NO. They are not going to vote for the status quo party. Every election from now on will demonstrate that.
yeah Tiki madoff appears to have swindled quite a cross section of folks from uber rich pricks to the "everyman" who lost their life savings to mad maddow...quite a study in greed and prick theory, eh?
Our trolls probably study his moves as "goodlife" lessons......
I get visibly ill if exposed to faux news for more than 30 seconds..the stoopid, it hurtz....
Posted by headxray at June 29, 2009 03:05 PMBe careful headcase, there's a great English comedy named the Goodlife. Great characters, great actors.
As far as Madoff, 150 years id fine with me. 100 would have been fine too, as well as 200. Throw the key away and forget about him.
To suresh, my kids were all in honors programs. None of them believe this man made climate change crap. Now if that's a problem with you, your teacher friends graded them that way.
To continue with a Waxman-Markey bill that Greenpeace thoroughly dislikes, it seems there was bi-partisan belief that it's the wrong medicine for America. Even progressive Democrat Dennis Kucinich was against it. Try reading what Greenpeace had to say.
"We are calling upon Congress to vote against this bill unless substantial measures are taken to strengthen it. Despite President Obama’s assurance that he would enact strong, science-based legislation, we are now watching him put his full support behind a bill that chooses politics over science, elevates industry interests over national interest, and shows the significant limitations of what this Congress believes is possible."
...
"This legislation sends a strong and unmistakable signal to the world that the United States is not yet ready to show the leadership necessary to reach a strong agreement at Copenhagen in December. Already, we are seeing the impact of this signal as one country after another retreats from the aggressive targets needed to avoid catastrophic climate change. "
Australia has already rejected PM Rudd's cap and trade scheme. Our Congress will do the same despite Democratic majorities. Europe's cap and trade system is a shambles with prices crashing all over the place.
Talk about taxes, even the press are sensing a joke when quizzing this admin about their no taxes for those under 200k or 250k line. We've read Obama's lips, and when he breaks this one, he'll face the same music GHW Bush faced. Seeya Charlie...
When Massachusetts passed their healthcare bill, 67% supported it. Now, according to Rasmussen, only 26% consider the reform a success. And their healthcare still has 200,000 not covered. and as Massachusetts’ Democrat Treasurer points out: "Cahill asserted that those whose legacies are tied to the healthcare initiative failed to take a hard look at the costs when the legislation passed several years ago and now are reluctant to cut costs. “If you’re going to bankrupt one group to help pay for another, at the end of the day we're all poorer,’’ Cahill said.
"State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill has come out strongly against the $1 billion in tax increases approved by the Legislature, proposing instead deep cuts in the state’s landmark effort at universal healthcare, calling it a luxury taxpayers can no longer afford."
Democrats calling universal healthcare a luxury!!!
"“Everyone wanted it to pass, to get it on their resume,’’ Cahill said of the state’s 2006 healthcare law. “Nobody asked the tough questions. It was expensive, even in good times. In tough times . . . it just doesn’t seem doable.’’"
"“We’re all still waiting for the savings,’’ Cahill said. “Universal healthcare was supposed to eventually save us money.’’"
Suppose to....spending up 28% while premiums only went up 8-10% per year. So much for reform.

Great. Another pack of "easy A" honor students who can't take another person's point of view and need remediation before enrolling in the "hard" 100 level courses at "collitch". Just great. And with conservative dipshits for parents, no less. I've seen bunches of them.

Seen boatloads unable to get beyond an intro or overview. They always like to complain "I...I...was in honors classes!" Res ipsa, spud.
Posted by phidipides at June 29, 2009 07:28 PMSuch a concrete would certainly have a big impact on overall CO2 emissions. I think it's a great idea. Do you have any links to the story on this? I would be interested to find out about the chemistry of the reaction.
Posted by Roger from Solar Power Facts at June 29, 2009 11:42 PMPeter pinhead, if your kids took boatloads of honors science classes, did well, and yet "don't believe" (note the faith based rhetoric) in global warming, that means that it likely wasn't addressed as a topic in their worthless Red State curriculum (too "controversial" for the dipshit parents) or (sorry to say) your kids aren't as smart as you think they are.
They certainly didn't succeed in being taught to properly evaluate scientic subjects if they "don't believe" in global warming and its cause. Sad, and not something for you to be so proud of.
I'd say it means they live in a deeply red state coccoon, and have been poisoned in their thinking by their horribly demented father and perhaps their crappy teachers, whom they foolishly want to "please" and not "betray".
Please don't use your poor kids to "support" your shit postings and demented rants at TLC in future.
Posted by euzoius at June 30, 2009 05:37 AMGood one, oozo, so true.
Posted by TIKI AL at June 30, 2009 04:05 PMHi Roger,
Next Big Future has another writeup on this here. He does note that Calera is pretty secretive right now, but he also then provides some links to other companies that are also using concrete to sequester carbon (but not quite so much).
Here's a more recent piece talking about Calera's process - and it provides a section of their patent application that describes a bit more of their process.
My caution would be to make sure we aren't screwing up the oceans more than we already have - calcium carbonate is a crucial piece to the ocean's biological ecosystem.
