Perhaps their victory in purging the moderate Republican isn't such good news after all.

Shh. Don't tell them that. Let 'em keep purging and marginalizing themselves into irrelevance. They're nearly there already. You gotta admit, it's pretty hilarious how they're turning their "certificate of participation" into a championship trophy. At this point, the only people they're fooling is themselves.

Seriously? The Club For Growth is run by Count Chocula? And he's a hardline anti-tax, anti-big tent conservative?

I knew these yahoos were blood sucking parasites, but I didn't realize they had moved on to our breakfast cereals! Oh, the humanity!

Posted by idiosynchronic at November 5, 2009 06:05 AM

the fact of the matter is that the GOP (moderate, conservative, whatever) won little of substance on Tuesday. Governors are less powerful than one House member in most ways. And Dems got two House members Tuesday. But the most important thing to come out of this weeks elections is the extent the Republicans went to gloat about their great "resurgence". It was no resurgence, just a couple wins over crappy Dem candidates. That is how desperate they are at this point....not the rank and file nut-jobs like Bachmann or lackeys like Steele, but the white boys at the top of the heap.

Wow, I saw Hoffman, the conservative's choice, at a podium giving a speech to his supporters. Is this the best conservatives have to offer? This guy looks and acts like he has been lobotomized.

Someone call David Ickes and find out if this guy is really a shape shifter. He fits the profile.

I'm interested in this TeaBagger thing at the Capitol today. Can you imagine what would have happened if this type of thing had gone on during, say, the Scooter Libby trial? Or any other time during Bush/Cheney? The TeaBaggers are this berserk over the first 9 months of Obama. What will we see two years from now? Scary thought.

Posted by T2 at November 5, 2009 07:29 AM

Yeah, T2, that Bachmann berzerker on overdrive won't comment why her top aide quit. Could it be that Bachmann's using "whites of their eyes" rhetoric as in "don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes?"

brisa, I couldn't believe what a dork Hoffman is. That's their "great white hope?" We're doomed, if by doomed, you mean we're laughing our heads off.

Posted by Twinky P* at November 5, 2009 07:42 AM

twink, I'm thinking its more like "don't shoot if you see they are white"

Abortion is out but Christian "Science" treatments are in the Senate bill?

"Reporting from Washington - Backed by some of the most powerful members of the Senate, a little-noticed provision in the healthcare overhaul bill would require insurers to consider covering Christian Science prayer treatments as medical expenses.

The provision was inserted by Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) with the support of Democratic Sens. John F. Kerry and the late Edward M. Kennedy, both of Massachusetts, home to the headquarters of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

The measure would put Christian Science prayer treatments -- which substitute for or supplement medical treatments -- on the same footing as clinical medicine. While not mentioning the church by name, it would prohibit discrimination against "religious and spiritual healthcare."

This is an outrage! ...no provision for voo doo doll reimbursement.

it is an outrage. I personally know three friends who died while refusing normal medical treatment because they were CS. Prayer works for some people.....regardless of what religion it is.....but CS is just B.S. (apologies to all you CS folks out there currently dying for lack of proper medical attention).

Posted by T2 at November 5, 2009 08:30 AM

Nancy Pelosi's peeps thought the Christian Science provision was unconstitutional and had it stripped out of the house bill:

News From Rita Swan, director, Children's Healthcare Is A Legal Duty:

"The mandate to reimburse religious and spiritual health care has been removed from the House bill, HR3962, the merged bill that is going to the floor. We are thrilled! Thank you for your letters and calls to Congresspersons. We will definitely thank FFRF in our next newsletter for your hard work on this.

We still have to win in the Senate, but I have a good feeling that momentum is on our side. Of course, this prayer-fee mandate was such an extremely ridiculous idea in the first place. Surely it is unconstitutional for the government to force payment for prayer."

And to think, I voted for Kerry. Thank "god" for the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Posted by TIKI AL at November 5, 2009 08:32 AM

I saw that, TIKI. Fucking godbot cultists.

Posted by Twinky P* at November 5, 2009 08:32 AM

Hi Twinky, did you know "godbot" made it into the urban dictionary? Pretty funny definition. I think the first time I saw it was in a post here by Iamcoyote during the 2000 election. Was this blog here in 2000? Oh well, I know it was in one of her posts. I miss her.

(sigh) The memory is the second thing to go.

Posted by TIKI AL at November 5, 2009 08:43 AM

Prayer works for some people.

Only if they weren't sick in the first place and enjoy self-delusion. And didn't I see a recent study where they blew away the myth that a positive attitude helps people heal faster? Basically, it's a bunch of wishful thinkers who want the sick to shut up and die already.

TIKI - I thought I got godbot from you! Heehee!

Posted by Twinky P* at November 5, 2009 09:12 AM

I meant prayer works in the general sense that lots of people pray...it gives them hope. I don't believe you can pray away stomach cancer....but if someone prays to make it go away, and then it does, they've a right to claim the prayer did it. For most, it won't, they'll die praying.

Posted by T2 at November 5, 2009 09:24 AM

they've a right to claim the prayer did it.

Sure, if they want to look like imbeciles. Dog Bless Am-ree-ka! Even the deluded can claim magical thinking cures cancer! They'd be wrong, but they're free to claim it.

Posted by Twinky P* at November 5, 2009 09:37 AM

...they've a right to claim the prayer did it.

But they don't have a right to be reimbursed for it.

Posted by snark at November 5, 2009 09:42 AM

Exactly, snark. And if they're going to restrict abortions and other icky conditions of the dreaded lady parts, I say they shouldn't pay for viagra or any of the other conditions of the manly man parts, either.

Posted by Twinky P* at November 5, 2009 09:50 AM

todays Teabagging is interesting.....GOP Representatives pledging never to vote for Healthcare Reform one day after presenting their GOP Healthcare Reform package....listening to these maniacs crying about how the nation is being totally ruined by Obama is, well, off the charts nutso. I knew electing a Black guy (or half of one, anyway) would drive the GOPers nuts, but even I, a southerner, didn't expect this. These nut jobs aren't joe six-pack, they are Republican elected Congressmen.

Posted by T2 at November 5, 2009 11:09 AM

Wow!

The Republican party leadership has just simply lost their minds.

There's no other way to look at it.

Absolute lunacy.

Posted by snark at November 5, 2009 11:57 AM

From what I hear, so far the only people arrested were pro-reformers outside Holy Joe Fuckface's office. Typical.

At what point does insurrection and incitement become illegal, I wonder. These fuckers are off the charts. I just had a customer give me 10 minutes of teabagger shit from "Palin would be a better prez" to "illegals will get all the health care" without taking a breath. At least now that the RNC has declared they're following the teabaggers, we don't have to worry about elections any more. Just our lives. Stay outta federal buildings, folks.

The Republican party leadership = Glen Beck

Multiple shooting incident on Fort Hood in Texas.

Multiple fatalities and wounded.

Developing.

Posted by snark at November 5, 2009 01:11 PM

Just saw that, snark. Military on military violence.

Posted by Twinky P* at November 5, 2009 01:25 PM

Not sure it's military on military yet.

But it stands to reason.

Posted by snark at November 5, 2009 01:27 PM

That was the last report I saw. Supposedly a presser is coming soon. Someone said they were in fatigues, so who knows. The guy in custody was in his 30s... Dang.

Posted by Twinky P* at November 5, 2009 01:42 PM

Fort commander confirms that the shooter(s) were US soldiers. One was killed by police and two other suspects are in custody.

Posted by snark at November 5, 2009 01:58 PM

I dunno...maybe sending the same soldiers back to Iraq for 5-6 tours is a bit much.

Posted by T2 at November 5, 2009 02:06 PM

It was inevitable. Fuck.

Please sign the petition against, Senator Tom Coburn. Right before Veteran's Day he's blocking crucial benefits for caregivers of wounded Veteran's. Here's the text of the petition:

We the undersigned call on you to stop this disgraceful move of holding up some very important veteran legislation, S. 1963, "The Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2009." While this is a legal move, we think it is morally wrong for you to hold up any veterans benefits during a time when our men and women in uniform are giving so much to our country.

You are denying veterans a myriad of benefits and services. One of these benefits is caregiver assistance to our most wounded veterans. Severely injured veterans often need assistance to do some of the smallest tasks, and generally family members often putting quite the strain on those family members do that assistance. This bill will provide much needed relief for those caregivers by allowing for family caregiver assistance and lodging and food assistance for attending caregivers.

You are blocking some benefits specifically for women veterans. Title 2 of this bill deals with issues like Military Sexual Trauma, women-specific health care matters, and newborn health issues.

Other aid in the bill concerns rural veteran health care issues, mental health care matters and programs to help ease the burden of veteran homelessness. You are blocking that too.

Now is not the time to play petty political games with our veterans. What you are doing is shameful, and those of us who are veterans and support veterans will not stand for it.

Mr. Hoffman seems quite strange. I do not understand how he can run for Representative if he is living outside of the NY-23 Congressional District. No one in the corporate media has bothered to address this little problem (as far as I can tell...) (Some info about this would be nice, thank you).

O/T: re: the Fort Hood, Texas shootings: it would seem that our endless brutal military occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq are stressing out American soldiers. It is time to end our stupid, costly, blooding hostile military occupations in the Middle East.

Posted by james k. sayre at November 5, 2009 02:56 PM

MSNBS is reporting that the main shooter was a real US Army Maj Malik Nadal Hasan.(killed)
2 other soldiers are also in custody.

Michelle Bachmann: "Hasan? Is he related to Obama? What does Obama have to do with this? Are we next? pssssssssssss." (yellow liquid leaking from her chair).

Posted by TIKI AL at November 5, 2009 02:57 PM

First reports are always wrong. HE'S ALIVE! ...HE'S ALIVE!
