Comments: Slip Slidin' Away

Perhaps the inevitable can be postponed if enough of us recognize it?

Perhaps not.

Tick-tock. Nothing but bad news and whining in the media about Bush, and the presidential polls are in a dead heat. One month until Iraq is self-governing.

Then Rooney and the media along with the Kerry Campaign War Chest will have to go back to making fun of the way Bush pronounces words!

"Crap, he did what he said he was going to do with regards to the economy and foreign policy! More jobs, recovering economy, and standing tall against terror. What a bastard! But did you hear the way he pronounced 'regime?' Lets get some ideas in here people! Tell Michael Moore to put down the bucket of chicken, get off his fat ass and make another movie, dammit! Get Rooney on the line, tell him to get 60 Minutes to do another slam piece! We're gonna lose this damn thing!"

That was some remarkable spin.

What color is the sky on Planet Muckdog?

Sorry, off the subject, but....I am so glad that my tax dollars are going to protect the private sector and big oil companies of this Country, while I, as a citizen, am not being protected from future attacks. How does Tom Ridge sleep at night? It just warms the cockels of my heart. Is protecting Texaco and the others with millions of taxpayer dollars more important than protecting our mass transit? Evidently, it is. Another way in which Bush says f you to Americans.

I too was struck by Andy Rooney's bit in last Sunday's 60 minutes - especially when he
reminded us that the US torture that took place in Abu Ghraeb is "a black mark that will be in the history books in a hundred languages for as long as there are history books". It is true.
And as a senior, how did I get from being a member of one of the 'greatest generation' to one of the most despised populations of Americans in just 4 years? - This war and GWB are despicable.

Andy Rooney spoke as a true patriot. Anyone who truly loves our beautiful country would want the best for it--not just for its safety but for its soul. People like Muckdog and anyone associated with the tortures of Abu Ghraib make me question where we're going, but there are always those who give us hope, as well.

Andy Rooney is a hack.

But sometimes it seems we need a hack to get the point across for good.

(I understand this is why Tom Friedman has continued employment.)

Every semester my students in World Civ (to CE 1650) realize that all great empires have expired and begin to wonder if that's a historical inevitability.
