I was no fan of Reagans but comments like that merely stoop to the Rethugs' level.

sure, I appreciate that. Condolences are personal and I'm not one to offer them when actively solicited (turn on your tv!). There will be a battle over the national conscience in the media starting immediately.

"Do you weep?" asks the red.

"No" replies the blue.

"Traitor."

I know that's not what you're intimating, but nevertheless, our commentary aside...it has come to this.

I've always thought Reagan was a huge hypocrite. He railed against Carter's budget deficits during the campaign, and went on to run up a deficit larger than all his predecessors combined. And don't give me that crap about Congress passing huge deficits. The budgets Congress passed under Reagan had smaller deficits than the budgets Reagan proposed.
A "family values" man who was a divorcee, and who was estranged from his older son for a good part of his life.
A darling of the religious right who rarely set foot in a church.
The outpouring of accolades from people who should know better will be sickening.

Let's give respect to Mr. Reagan and the good things he did for our country and the world. He certainly was not my choice to lead the country during the 1980s, but compared to our current president, he was a king.

Digby had it about right--he was better than Dubya, RIP.

This isn't our show, or our time. I say let those who cared deeply about the man grieve in peace for a bit.

I will bet one thing though--the Narcissist in Chief will try to make all the inevitable hoopla about himself. He simply cannot stand it when he is not the center of attention and focus.

The Narcissist-in-Chief is probably mad that Reagan's going to be stealing a little bit of his thunder for the next several days when he's trying to hawk some books.

Oh, you meant Bush. Sorry!

We knew that, Perfessor. You haven't been elected trash collector yet, much less been (s)elected pResident by the Sue-preme court jesters.

He ensured that he was a likeable guy and he played his greatest role was as President.
Those around him ran things around him.
