I'm certain they had a compelling reason to go to war (which is not an endorsement at all), but I don't think Dubya & Co. ever believed Iraq had WMDs. If you remove that from the list of plausible reasons, I only see two remaining. We're either there to control oil, or we're there to protect the dollar (or both). I am a trained economist, but I'm well out of practice and don't claim to have a grip on all the issues. That said, the currency argument seems to carry a lot of weight. The only real problem I have with it is that if true, it's a good justification (imho) for a war I'm against. Anyway, I thought you and your readers might be interested in a couple related links I've dug up in my own research on this topic.

Posted by John Gray at July 28, 2004 09:34 PMWhat is that theory bushCo uses to ravage or shirk? Risk analysis? When they say we can't spend $10B if only 100 lives per whatever period of time that both demeans and puts some price on our heads.
Risk analysis : Republican failures are usually double losses, wrong policies executed poorly. Results? Billions and billions costed, hate, death, not a winner in sight. A Democrat failure? Some money gets spent INSIDE the USA, some good gets done, and it's all so inefficient.
The Guardian makes the same point on Wednesday. It's all about the fragile dollar and a trade deficit that isn't getting any smaller.
Posted by Melanie at July 29, 2004 04:54 AMOh, yes, am in agreement with what those writers state in those posted articles.
I knew that was what it was all about.
I have been talking about this for over a decade to deaf ears of media morons and all the yuppies and bobos and all the overpaid govt. employees and other professionals living in the la la land mind sets.
And, now for the latest on my mind, who is going to have the guts to close the borders, gaurd the borders, get the illegals out, and screen non-citizens like we need to do before these cells blow us up? They've been caught crossing over s. borders with the illegals from the south ( and probably n. border too).
Posted by Alex at July 29, 2004 12:52 PMI have endured years of all kinds of insults from the left (and republican idiots) over what I knew all along to be correct as a very, very smart person who was raised to be in office (as other family members) and not as some wannabe.
If ever found financial benefactors, am ready willing and able to go any where in this country to start a viable third party of the Smart Independents.
Posted by at July 29, 2004 01:00 PMComment re taking too many insults for being correct and starting a viable third party was from me.
Posted by Alex at July 29, 2004 01:02 PMexcellent, excellent, articles posting.
