"........the only media job Alan Keyes will have is spinning records for the annual 'good time' party at Stateville Correctional Center in Joliet." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Republicans seldom go to jail for financial crimes. As to getting a job in the media I think Fox would hire a losing Republican candidate for office even if he was fucking a goat on the podium during his concession speech.
larre is spot on with those observations about the press, to say nothing of the politics of the place. Really, despite it not being the "big time" for politics like D.C. or New York or California, it is a far, far less genteel place.
Outside of maybe Louisiana, or turn-of-the-last-century New York, they don't play politics any harder or dirtier than they do in Chicago, which is for all intents and purposes Illinois, especially with the out-of-control suburban sprawl. Yeah, the '60s was probably its hey-day, but look what they did to Jack Ryan. Big shoulders? Sure, when it comes to getting along with your neighbors, going to the park, the bars, eating and playing softball. But, politics -- it's the city of big, mean, hard-hitting shoulders.
Keyes is a joke, but now that you mention it, I wonder if he really even gave a thought about what exactly it would mean to his life to run for office in Illinois? Geez, and with that mouth of his, it could get real ugly, real fast. They're not going to treat him with any respect, at all. This isn't going to be like the few kool-aid drinkers who supported him in his insane bids for the presidency or those who politely listened to him at the debates, or a nice television host in a quiet TV studio. This is the real deal.
On top of all that, and really not mentioned anywhere else, I can think of few places that would tolerate a carpet bagger less well than in the Mid-West. I'm not from Illinois, but I know it well and the rest of the Mid-West, too. Intolerant isn't the correct term, but provincial sure is, especially when you're getting close to the old industrial cities, such as Chicago (not quite rust-belt, but right next door). Talk about a big chip on those shoulders. People from the Mid-West come in all shapes, sizes and attitudes, but they all share a conviction that the rest of the country is basically insane and fleecing us.
Yeah, Keyes may just be in for a really rough time. Good thing for him it'll be over in a few months.
