Posted by Judith at September 5, 2004 07:45 AMHmmm, when the polls are in Sen Kerry's favor it's okay but when it swings to Bush it's rigged?
The trend toward Bush in the polls started before the convention. Most news organizations just weren't reporting it.
Sen Kerry got taken off track (message) and folks may have perceived a Kerry slow to respond as indecisive. He is suppose to be a leader, he isn't showing it and the polls are reflecting that.
Posted by wolfetx at September 5, 2004 09:49 AMsteaming, take a look at the national polls at www.electoral-vote.com. The TIME and Newsweek polls are flukes. TIME didnt provide internals, but NEWSWEEK's shows that they interviews more reps than dems. Plus they did their polls during the conventions. Who do you think is more likely to be home? TIME and Newsweek both did cover stories on Bush last week. This might just be self-validation. But yes, Bush did get a bounce and is up by about 3 on average.
Posted by Tim at September 5, 2004 10:12 AMWith regards to Kerry having an over-arching theme, it seems to me that with the increase in medicare premiums, the job market producing 100,000 service jobs out of the 144,000 last month (which probably means no benefits and minimum wage) he needs to somehow connect the foreign and domestic issues. Americans are suffering because of outsourcing, the deficit, the tax cuts and for many, a loss of benefits and even a tax increase as local and state governments try to make up their shortfalls in addition to the cost of the war. Wage earners are subsidising those who are benefitting from unearned income. What Republicans reject is the common good. They are indeed the party of greed, oppression and priviledge.
Posted by ray at September 5, 2004 12:43 PMHi all,
The Connecticut Young Democrats will be registering college students to vote by going door-to-door in dorm rooms throughout the state. If they happen to live in a battleground we will of course have them register and request an absentee ballot from their home state.
I compiled a list of the various rules and regulations surrounding registering and 'absenteeing' in each of these states identified by the Kerry campaign as in play. I provide direct links to the PDF forms (if available) for registration and absentee voting. Florida will come on just as soon as their website recovers from the storm.
The list can be found on my website here:
