In the effort to discount the idea that Bush wore a wire in the first debate, the WH let out an interesting little tidbit: Guess who makes Bush's suits? None other than "Georges de Paris" ! Thats right, Bush wears FRENCH suits. Talk about flip-flop!
Posted by T2 at October 11, 2004 06:36 AMThe Prez has done so much for this country! We ARE better off than we were four years ago! We feel safer from terrorists!
I tried that on some Bush Lovin' republican friends yesterday and they said, "Are you serious?"
They didn't know I'm a closet BushHater, because I haven't seen these people for a long while.
I was amazed at their reaction. Then all of them told me they were voting for Kerry.
I'm disgusted by this whole campaign. The last debate was revolting. This CAN'T be America!

Posted by J at October 11, 2004 07:50 AMLot of people might have noticed that gas is going back up again. The mainstream media is taking note as well. Gas is at 1.99, and has climbed 8 cents in two weeks. Bad news for W. Damn it, where is BAndar Bush when you need him?
Two stories that were big in summer that are resurfacing and could affect the election:
1. gas prices
2. DVD release of F9/11
How about that Sinclair media showing the anti-Kerry film? Is there anything that can be done about that??
Posted by Scott at October 11, 2004 07:59 AMElmer Gantry in the White House
Jazz over at Running Scared shows us how Bush has a striking resemblence to Sinclair Lewis' Elmer Gantry.
Last night, I watched a C-Span rerun of a Molly Ivins speech of Oct 2nd. She recommended, not only working hard for Kerry, but to also have fun. I think that's why the story of the 'bulge underneath the jacket' fascinates us (also the expressions of Bush's face during the first debate) - they are funny!
We feel so strongly about this election that we feel a little bit guilty having fun with it. But I'll bet a lot of bloggers are donating more than they can afford to, and I know many are involved in GOTV, and writing letters, etc. They are activists, and are entitled to a little fun.
This is indeed a very important election - but actually, being an activist is so much more enjoyable and satisfying than being a couch potato. We remain constantly aware of the horrific damage Bush has caused to ours and to other countries. He is evil but he is also a clown. To laugh a bit is not a bad thing.
(Can't wait to see what Jon Stewart does with the 'bulge' story.)

Yes. Reword the constitution to say free speech only if you say bad things about Republicans and good things about Democrats.
Your starting to sound like Communists.
Posted by Right Coaster at October 11, 2004 08:29 AMScott, if you go to Kos, I think there are diaries as far as who to write to at Sinclair and also a list of thier advertisers(boycott I presume). Yes, it is free speech, but since this is America, you as the consumer can make your feelings heard as well.
Posted by BC3 at October 11, 2004 08:34 AMYes. Reword the constitution to say...
Easy Rightcoaster.
Remember. It's the Republicans, pandering to religious fundimentalists, that want to reword the Constitution. Not Democrats.
Your throwing the communist word around really makes you sound as desperate as Bush.
Posted by muckcat at October 11, 2004 08:36 AMGeez, "right coaster". I never insinuated that it should be banned! That's a rather large extrapolation on your part, and perhaps gives some insight as to what you think an appropriate response to an alternative viewpoint is. Maybe you're the one who sounds like a communist;)
Rather, I'm wondering what there is to do to combat the viewpoint that it presents with our own viewpoint. I'm wondering how it's possible to balance it out. No Lenin there, sorry.
Thanks, DC3-- you knew what I was talking about;)

Not to share too much of my paranoia, but if this election is stolen, the Democrats in this Country ought to every thing we can to bring the Corporations that prop up this administration to their knees. We should start with the offenders such as Sinclair broadcasting, Rupert Murdoch and others and fight back for our freedoms. This is not a suggestion if the election is fairly lost-only if it is clearly stolen. In that case we should pick out one enemy of the Constitution and use the power of the internet to bring them down. Then on the next one.
We don't have to go to the streets. We can just not go to the WalMart. It would involve significant sacrifice, but it is real power.
Posted by Philip at October 11, 2004 10:27 AMbut if this election is stolen
How do you "steal" an election?
Is it considered "stealing" votes when the DNC "promotes the vote" in poor neighborhoods to sign up people to vote knowing that a very large majority of them will vote Democratic? Or is that just smart politics? What would you consider a "fair" lost?
Posted by Right Coaster at October 11, 2004 10:49 AMOr is that just smart politics?
It's just smart politics.
Purging voter rolls of those inclined to vote against you and leaving those inclined to vote for you on constitutes "stealing" an election. Sending out operatives to scare voters that are inclined to vote against you from going to polling places or illegally refusing to let them vote because they don't have photo id constitutes "stealing" an election.
Leave it to a republican to lay a negative spin on trying to increase citizen participation in the electoral process.
Tom DeLay should be proud of you.
Posted by muckcat at October 11, 2004 11:08 AMRC,
You steal an election with successful targeted vote suppression efforts, by refusing to count groups of votes for spurious reasons, with last minute contrived events such as terrorists warnings and patently unfair practices by media companies if these are allowed by political appointees.
AS for voter registration efforts. Feel free to approach any group in a voter registration effort. You might start down at your local Lords and Taylors or over at the Hummer dealership.

I was thinking more like the B.H. 90210 area.
The UnitedLeft also has some good commentary on the Sinclair fiasco. These media conglomorates are really getting out of hand!

Posted by Brian at October 11, 2004 02:07 PMMr. Soros, ever thought of a new investment in the television field? Perhaps the Sinclair group? Inject some new management into it, change its editorial content to a more objective and mainstream one, and enjoy the resulting profits (psychic and financial)? Sure would clean up the landscape if you did this!
Posted by CuriosityKilledTheCat at October 12, 2004 09:02 AMAwww, and the left, the people of love and peace proudly proclaim, at every opportunity, their hatred for the president.
Say, if you're against going to war pre-emptively against Iraq, what do you make of Kerry's "I'll hunt and KILL terrorists BEFORE" they come after us. I mean that's hunting and killing, all in one.
And, what about all of Kerry's Bible thumping, and not a word about AIDS sufferers. You want drugs from Canada, but you don't think we should have taken a chance with a flu vaccine from Britain.
You know, you are right, we shouldn't have gone after Iraq. You are and always were the ENEMY WITHIN.
No one was responsible for the loss of more life in Vietnam than people like John Kerry. Don't ever let your sons and daughters serve under such a commander.
Posted by George at October 17, 2004 07:04 PMWe can't take them all on. Lets get the copany most concerned with their image and perhaps with the biggest stake in the uS and the US economy - GE. They own NBC. If they were to get out of Sinclair it would hurt them. Sinclair wouldn't dare pull the shit they did with ABC on nightline with GE. GE is worth $400B dollars - about 400 times Sinclair.
So: CALL GE and call NBC. Call the GE appliance repair phone number and clog up their lines: 1 800 626 2000 and tell them that you want GE to stand up for the American Way and stop the broadcast of Sinclair/Bush propaganda on thier NBC affiliates.
Let us FOCUS on one: the most powerfula dn most likely to make Sinclair behave. GE - who owns NBC and whose FOUR affiliated stations will broadcast this propaganda and spoil the NBC and GE brand name which they have safeguarded for over a hunered years.
Posted by Honest Abe at October 18, 2004 07:57 PMyes - I like that. Lets focus on GE and NBC with their four affiliates who paln to show this propaganda. Call 1 800 626 2000
Posted by liberalcat at October 18, 2004 07:59 PMDo most of you ever read what you write -- most of it is third-rate tripe -- you sound like adolescent would-be revolutionaries full of the kind of empty-headed arrogance one has always found in uneducated, ill-informed and self-indulgient children. You need to get-a-life; go get a job, live a decent family life, raise children your community can be proud of, and, above all, bend some of your efforts toward understanding what "freedom with responsibility" means.
