Comments: Two Studies Confirm Bush Tax Cuts Shift Tax Burdens From Rich to Middle Class

"So exactly why would any Democrat continue to vote for any more Bush tax cuts in light of this information?"

The question should be, Why would ANYONE vote for more cuts in light of this information? Very very few house members and no senate members serve primarily the ones who will benefit from this. Our elected representatives will represent us (and I mean conservatives, liberals and everyone else who is not a CEO) when we demand that they do so. It's that simple.

"The middle class is predominantly labor income," Hassett said

And, why exactly is labor income so much less moral and so much less helpful to the economy that it should be taxed more?

And I've never understood why Democrats keep talking about how unfair these cuts are to the poor and a boon for the rich? That's as may be, but who considers themselves poor? Obviously, Democrats should have, and probably now will, talk about the middle class constantly. These numbers are pretty devastating. A really strong campaign in '04 will not only beat Bush, but discredit the GOP for years.

The big losers ar not just the middle class, but also the young. They will have to pick up the tab for the deficit spending.

Right BriVT. The middle class votes, and hates to think of themselves as poor, always striving for the higher rung. The truly underclass doesn't vote, a case of learned helplessness.

I agree with your whole argument, and I am not trying to be a spoil sport but... Shrubya did need some help...and that came from some democrats. What has happened to party unity? Did some of them sell their souls...was it Lincoln and Nelson (from Nebraska)?
