I'm not a Bush supporter at all, nor do I like the Patriot act, but you've got your head in the sand if you think that the problem is not due to the Muslim immigrants. Their values are SO far from ours that conflict is inevitable. What form the conflict takes is still in the air. What needs to happen is that people who immigrate to Western countries have to agree to abide by Western values. It's a perfectly reasonable request. I think the headscarf law in France is a reasonable first attempt.

There's a lot of ignorance in this country about Islam. Many believe the terrorists are typical Muslims. In fact they're either extremists or only using the label of Muslim as a badge.

I lived for years in a neighborhood near a mosque. My Muslim neighbors were family-oriented, law-abiding people who lived peacefully.

To equate Islam with terrorism is bigotry, pure and simple, on the same level as calling Timothy McVey a typical Christian. People who think the Muslim religion as a whole is the problem, need to educate themselves more thoroughly.

Marky, while I agree that it is ridiculous to 'shake down' 7 year old blonde girls or 70 year old wheelchair-bound grandmothers, at airports, many Muslims have come here because they thought they could practice their religion in peace. Just as the Pilgrims and Catholics and Jews... We really shouldn't go down the road of religious discrimination. History shows that it ultimately, sometimes many years later, turns out real bad. Let's not go that way.

More of your typically sociopathic blame the murder victim excrement.

Fundamentalists, especially our own homegrown brand of fundamentalist conservative, can sometimes be dangerous. The idea that a whole people be summarily accused because of the actions of few who don't even live in the United States is narrow, disgusting and dangerous.

The Dutch filmmaker's film was about how poorly Muslim men treat Muslim women. You left that out.

Read the entire post next time. It's in there - in detail.

This all makes more sense when you identify the extremists as Islamofascists, akin to our own Christofascists. This clarity leads to 2 related political positions:

1. support for *reasonable* law enforcement efforts to identify and neutralize all attempts to use our religious freedoms to organize for violent actions.

2. political action to show the parallelisms between the 2 flavors of religious fascism: intrusion into personal lives, insistence on using religious values as instrments of civil governance, marginalization of non-believers, etc.

These 2 elements can form the basis for a good (morally clean), affirmative (non-defensive), and victorious political movement.

Sorry, guys, but the typical Muslim attitude towards women and gays just does NOT fit in with our values. It's not a statement of prejudice but of fact. Actually I think it's more a question of Arab values rather than Muslim.
We can pretend the difference doesn't exist, or we can work with education and outreach to help these immigrants fit into our society better.

Pessimist, I am really really glad to see your still here. The effort to control the jihadist, will be the thin part of the directive to control all different people in the US. Miss Purepants Malkin has been laying the groundwork for a couple of years, along with the fat addict and the sex addict. Nice to see that the equality of law being ignored for those nice fellows on the right.
But not to worry we will be able to buy fully auto hunting rifles and probably only for collecting purposes of course, shoulder held anti-aircraft missles!! (oh-boy) And I am sure our brothers in arms against the Fundies will be happy to supply us with some of those untracable explosives used in the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction that no one was guarding in Iraq because we didn't have enough troops. To end a somewhat ironic comment, we ain't seen nothing yet!!
