Muckcat,
I couldn't care less if you respond to my posts or not. But as you said , you once had respect for what I contributed, until you found out I like Ann Coulter. Isn't that a bit spiteful? If you gave credence for some of my points, then you should give those same points credence now, despite what books I read. I have and always have had my own views on the bias of media, both in the UK and US, and always make my own mind up what I believe. Ann Coulter simply proved that many of my views were correct, and did it with style. I don't discredit your opinions (many of which I agree with) just because you like Michael Moore or Dan Rather (I don't know if you do , but they were the first lefty celeb-types that sprung to mind).

Posted by Ricardo at November 9, 2004 03:13 AM

So Ricardo, do your views include wishing that the New York Times building had been blown up on 9/11? Do you think we should invade Muslim countries, kill their leaders, and convert their citizens to Christianity? Were you not able to express those views with as much "style" as Ann Coulter?

Why don't you find someplace else to peddle your poison? I, for one, done want to read your Coulter-like garbage here at The Left Coaster.

(I must have missed another argument elsewhere that prompted this post by Ricardo, but I couldn't let this comment stand.)

I post here to point out how biased , ignorant, and self-righteous much of what imbeciles like you say, is.

I post here because if I didn't , there'd just be a bunch of you spewing your rhetoric, and agreeing with each other all day long, nodding to each others comments like Muhammed Ali on speed.
A bit sad really isn't it that you want everyone who comes to this site to have the same bullshit opinions???

Posted by Ricardo at November 9, 2004 04:26 AM

I'm an imbecile for asking you to explain your support of the "stylish" Miss Coulter? Well, pardon me! She has made the most biased, ignorant, inflammatory statements imaginable and you accuse us of not engaging in civil discourse?

Go fuck yourself.

Ricardo, You post here so people like me will always be reminded of what we are up against and will always remain motivated to stay active and speak up against radical hate-filled racist supremacists like yourself. Thanks for keep me motivated! We have (allegedly) lost a few battles, but we won't be backing down!

Mary, I for one have lost deep confidence in the voting system in our country. Whatever occurs, I just want to be reassured that the system works, otherwise why even bother. Please keep us informed (since the media doesn't feel the need) as to any voting reform measures that might be taken up in this country.

Posted by emal at November 9, 2004 04:54 AM

Emal,
Please point out the exact moment when I revealed myself as a racist supremecist or mwhatever. A little dramatic, even for a drama-queen liberal bitch like yourself.

Susan,
How , my dick doesn't reach that far, unless you could loan me your dildo (mind you I doubt you'd let your only means of sexual fulfillment out of your sight).

The reason I was so sharp with you is because, I knew by the way you were whining on about Ann Coulter, it wouldn't matter what I said, I'd be a nazi or whatever other insults you have on the page of the "What to say back to a Right-Winger Thrashing You in an Argument" handbook you're looking at.
The comments you quoted Coulter saying, are what she said after 9/11, and with the anger felt by most at that time, I think those comments were justified. It's a shame there isn't more passionate patriotism like that among you friggin' liberals. Instead you'd rather blame the US, and the west, for all of the world problems, even islamic terrorism. Yes I do think all islamic terrorist scum should be wiped off the face of the planet, along with anyone else who endorses, appeases, agrees with, or aids them in any way shape or form. And maybe we should convert them to christianity (all muslims) then there'd be a hell of a lot less religious extremism...after all when was the last christian global uprising against non-christians you heard about???

Posted by Ricardo at November 9, 2004 05:25 AM

And don't come out with any bull about the invasion of Iraq being a christian "jihad" because it's just a pathetic conspiritorial fantasy.
Islam is a bloody religion, that breeds terrorism, evident by taking a quick glimpse of the koran. It needs reform, or banning/destroying just like nazism was.... it's worse than nazism, because no-one seems to realise that islam is being allowed to get a lot further than the nazis ever did.
Just look at the world:
Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan India/kashmir, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Russia, the Balkans and now even the Netherlands, every single one of these countries has either a conflict started by muslims on non-muslims, or between different races of muslims, or between shias and sunnis, others have genocides of christians, jews, buddhists hindus and "pagans" BY MUSLIMS... even the US is under threat from attack by islamic terrorism... it's all part of their jihad, they are on a global conquest it's obvious. They're not hiding it, they've openly declared a jihad, it's not being done with stealth, it's blatant. And in Europe and America, we also have the demographic conquest to worry about, a massive muslim influx into western countries, where they will breed and breed, flooding in constantly, changing our laws using liberal idiots to whine about discrimmination, and things that offend them, thats the demographic jihad, they're dhimmifying the west from within and blatantly attacking the rest of the world... and liberals side up with them and claim America is the root of all the worlds problems and suffering.

Wake the fuck up!!!

Why is it that we can spend billions to spread democracy and freedom to far corners of the globe but we can't dedicate the resources here at home to ensure verifiable election results? And what reason could anyone have for being opposed to a system backed up by a paper trail?

Honestly, if it took two or three days to count all the votes and determine who the winner is would that be so bad? Who would suffer? The pundits who wouldn't get to stay up late and fight to be the first to make the call on their fancy sets with their techno-chalkboards? Listening to Dan Rather's lame excuse for folksy wit was maddening. It's a fucking joke. It's presented like it were the SuperBowl.

Posted by muckcat at November 9, 2004 06:20 AM

You don't have to rig or fix the elections everywhere....that would be too obvious, even for the GOP Media to ignore. All you have to do is steal 1.5% in the most crucial spot. Now, the most crucial spot doesn't have to be the most obvious spot. Just snatch a few thousand votes in a calculated way, so that it just tips the scale a little bit to your guy.......and let the electoral college and Supreme Court do the rest.

Those who researched and knew about the Diabold voting process warned us all ahead of time of its no-paper-trail dangers - so, there should not now be any complaints about the groups who are fact-checking Ohio and Florida ballots.

I too wonder why we wouldn't want to arrive at the final and correct count????? Even if those figures show that Bush won, why would we not want to know the correct count, in which county and in which state so as to have a basis for future strategy??? And why not find out if Bush did get the mandate he is claiming?????
The protests to the investigations smell fishy!

One other comment off-topic - I suggest reading Daily Howler today - the figures are from the Wahington Post about the comparative health between Blue States and Red States - all 16 of those at the bottom of the scale are in the South (including Texas). Lots of good info there - including that those in the South have trouble giving up on their tobacco.

Does anyone else see that all Christians are belittled (in general) as right wing nuts? Yes, we have our share of nuts. After Jerry Falwell accused tinky winky of being gay, I am appalled that Fox News invites him to speak on serious issues, since even I, a self-proclaimed conservative, think he made himself into a joke.

However, there are those of us who are Christian, believe that adoption is a better alternative than abortion, that it should be okay to say God in the classroom (if you wish), but also believe that others can make their own choices.

When I was in college (a very liberal women's college, by the way) I did an internship at Planned Parenthood one semester.

Does anyone here realize that it is planned parenthood's policy that if a woman comes in for an abortion (or referral to a doctor who performs one), planned parenthood workers are not allowed to advise the woman of viable birth-control methods, as that would be imposing our views on others?

The partial birth abortion law does have an exception for the life and health of the mother, but most people don't realize that.

Embryonic stem cell research is legal, but except for existing embryos is not government funded. Most people don't realize it's legal.

Can anyone here concede that there is a vast block of voters who are conservative, yet don't care to force their views on others? True, I have a huge issue with abortion being taxpayer funded. I have a huge issue with the ethical question of embryonic stem cell research. That doesn't mean I'm an idiot that can't see the benefits of embryonic stem cell research. It just means that I have huge concerns.

A lot of you have concerns about the war on terror, that I don't necessarily share. I don't call you a moron who loves terrorists. I resent being called a moronic bigot when I don't agree with you.

My point is that there has been a big deal made about how this election was about morals, and many of you seem to think that means that a bunch of gay-bashing, abortion clinic bombers went out and voted for Bush in complete ignorance.

As a reasonable, conservative, Christian, I will tell you that I went out and voted for Bush, because I saw Kerry as ceding my viewpoints to the extreme left, not allowing my Children to be proud of being a Christian, lest they be perceived as absolute ignorant bigoted morons.

Like it or not, Bush came across to a large block of reasonable Christian voters as a reasonable, rational Christian who doesn't hide his Faith, or feel the need to justify it.

Insofar as entitlement programs, a lot of us believe that people, given the choice, would prefer to donate to a charity than to give their $$ to the government, who decides how our money is best spent. Yet we are treated like a bunch of selfish big-spenders who want champagne and caviar while people are starving.

If the democrats want to re-gain control, I hope you take some of these views into consideration.

Posted by Muckfan at November 9, 2004 10:18 AM

It's true, stem cell research is not illegal. I can set up a lab in my basement right now! How far I'll get on a budget of $2.59 doesn't really matter, I suppose.

I appreciate the fact that you have "huge concerns" about stem cell research, and I would like to hear them, because I don't understand why no one objected to these frozen embroyos being thrown out, as they have been for years. Using them to cure terrible diseases is, somehow, suddenly, immoral? By not federally funding stem cell research, they are, once again, just being thrown out.

Wherein lies my main concern about Bush's moral stances...they are far more surface than substance.

It sounds good to say one is pro-marriage, pro-life, and against stem cell research...and that is where the goodness often stops. The rights of human beings who are gay, the rights of women over their own bodies, and the medical needs of people already born...don't matter from this point of view.

I can declare that I'm a Christian...even though I follow the Gospels, not the Old Testament. It wasn't the Democrats that were "not allowing my Children to be proud of being a Christian." It was Jerry Falwell who "accused tinky winky of being gay." As a Christian, it's George Bush who makes me not proud of how the message of Jesus has been distorted.

By the way...since I disregard Bible teaching except for the Gospels, I don't go to church. And neither does President Bush.

Posted by Pam at November 9, 2004 10:54 AM

Muckfan,

Does anyone else see that all Christians are belittled (in general) as right wing nuts?

I don't believe that's true of how issues are presented here.

I'm a Roman Catholic. I believe that my religious identity as a Christian is co-equal with my civic identity as an American. I think abortion is abhorant and would never advise anyone to do it but I also respect the fact that many in this country do not feel the same way. Many believe that the government, or anti-abortion groups do not have a right to tell them what they can or can not do with their bodies. As an American I can accept that. As for stem-cell research I will only say that if you object to it for religious reasons you must as strongly object to invitro-fertilization.

As a reasonable, conservative, Christian, I will tell you that I went out and voted for Bush, because I saw Kerry as ceding my viewpoints to the extreme left, not allowing my Children to be proud of being a Christian, lest they be perceived as absolute ignorant bigoted morons.

As a reasonable, liberal, Christian, I will tell you that I went out and voted for Kerry because I saw Bush as ceding my viewpoints to the extreme right, not allowing my child to be proud of being a Christian, lest she be perceived as an absolute ignorant bigoted moron.

You try to make your point about not all Christians being extreemists by complaining that John Kerry sold out to extreemists!

Insofar as entitlement programs, a lot of us believe that people, given the choice, would prefer to donate to a charity than to give their $$ to the government, who decides how our money is best spent. Yet we are treated like a bunch of selfish big-spenders who want champagne and caviar while people are starving.

A valid point of disagreement. I would note that the "ammoral elitist brie eating, red wine sipping coastal intellectual" stereo type is equally hurtful. After all, the so called blue states generally contribute more to the national finances than they get back while the opposite is generally true of the red states. Now, that doesn't make me particulary happy but it's a fact. And it's part and parcel of being a member of a massive, heterogeneous society within which we all supposed to have shared mutual concern for one another.

The problem that liberals have with those Christians who would like to impose the specifics of their morality on everyone in this country regardless of whether others share those specifics of morality is that it's hypocritical. You yourself said that you prefer to determine for yourself how you assist your neighbor via charitable donations versus government programs. Yet many who share your anti-government beliefs are the same people who would use the government to impose their anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-stem cell research views on every American. Can you not see the conflict there?

Muckfan-

You seem to feel it is acceptable for your views and values to trump my views and values due to your participation in the Judeo-Christian belief system. Why should I have to abide by your values with regards to pregnancy termination or stem cell research or marriage between persons of the same gender? Why should your belief system trump my belief system?

You state you do not want abortion taxpayer funded. Certainly, you are entitled to your viewpoint. I respect your viewpoint, but have you considered the alternative? I do not think there are many in this country who advocate abortion as a birth control method, but there are many reasons to have this option available and safe. There are many genetic diseases which can now be identified within the first trimester. Many of these conditions lead to horrible suffering and death for the children born. Should we force a woman who is raped to carry the baby to term? If you are against abortion, that is fine, but your choice should not limit my choice and actions.

Are you a supporter of in-vitro fertilization? If so, do you realize thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands of embryos are created during this process? Do you know what is done with these embryos that are not implanted? The embryos are stored, then eventually destroyed. Why cannot researchers have access to these embryos to use for stem cell research? At least there is a chance progress could be made towards cures for diseases such as Parkinson's and Diabetes.

Why do you feel Kerry represented the extreme left viewpoint? What did he say that supported this claim? Was it because he valued equality for all people no matter their gender, color, disability, or sexual orientation? Is it because he valued a clean environment? Is it because he valued fully funding social services like schools, hospitals, fire stations, police, and affordable housing? Is it because he valued fiscal restraint so we do not leave our children a deficit that will cripple our economy? Please explain to me what is so "extreme" about these values?

You claim Bush was seen by the Christian voters as a "reasonable Christian who does not hide his faith?" Are you implying Kerry hid his faith? I saw Kerry attend Mass every Sunday. Did you know Bush did not attend church services for the 2 years preceding the election season? What is it about Bush's actions that portray him as a "reasonable Christian". Have his actions been biblical in nature?

You state you want your children to be able to be proud of their Christianity and that you want them to be able to pray in school. What if someone else's child is non-religious or has a different belief system? How do we accomodate these children? Why should we force our schools to cater to one belief system over another? Shouldn't you be responsible for instilling your belief system on your children or better yet, educate your children about the many varied belief systems in the world and let them make a choice as to which they would like to pursue?

Posted by Trieatalolt at November 9, 2004 11:34 AM

Yes, KBL, maybe 9/11 is just a creative guy with Photoshop. Maybe the twin towers are still there. How many of us have actually been to NY to check them out? It's all Bush and the media spinning events. There never was a 9/11, right?

Also, have you ever wondered if the St. Louis Cardinals actually won the World Series? It could be one of the biggest coverups in baseball history. The Cardinals won, but somehow the media and George Bush spun it as a Red Sox sweep. I hope the NY Times investigates this. Baseball fans may have been disenfranchised. We need to recount the runs!

Cameron Kerry: Send Voting Problem Info to DNC

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

I am grateful to the many people who have contacted me to express their deep concern about questions of miscounting, fraud, vote suppression, and other problems on election day, especially in Florida and Ohio. Their concern reflects how much people care about the outcome of this election. I want to you to know we are not ignoring it. Election protection lawyers are still on the job in Ohio and Florida and in DC making sure all the votes are counted accurately. I have been conferring with lawyers involved and have made them aware of the information and concerns people have given me. Even if the facts don't provide a basis to change the outcome, the information will inform the continuing effort to protect the integrity of our elections.

If you have specific factual information about voting problems that could be helpful to the lawyers doing their job, please send it to vri@dnc.org rather than to me.

The election protection effort has been important to me personally, and I am proud of the 17,000 lawyers around the country who helped. It's obvious that we have a way to go still, but their efforts helped make a difference. Their work goes on.

Thank you,

Cam Kerry

Using the same lies, the republican media is continuing to program drone minds with their manufacture reality. This election was about values. The truth is the values of the so called red states are the opposite of the lies painted by the republican parrot media. The red state values are truly psychotic, hateful, selfish, xenophobic and greedy. These are their real values below the lies and facade. These maps tell the real story that describes the real difference between the red and blue states. One hundred and thirty years after the civil war, the country is divided by the same issues (racism, ignorance, anti-union). Throughout history the red states’ backwards culture has seriously damaged the health of the nation. The south has risen again!!! Unfortunately for us, it could not have happen at a worst time (global warming, globalization, declining oil reserves). This is the wrong time to have these idiots running our country.

What idiots these guys Ricardo and "Chevy" (nice name buddy) are... It's almost laughable isn't it? Like when you have an argument on the playground in grade school, and the other person really has absolutely NOTHING to say, so they simply repeat the same thing over and over again... Chevy says, "naa naaaa naaa naaaa naaaaaa..." and posts it seven times in a row for completly useless 'emphasis.' Ricardo says, "I'm blowing your crap out of the water..." as if simply saying so makes it true... Pathetic.

What are you two even doing here anyway? Do you come here to get an education and to hear what truly intelligent people have to say, and then to attempt to lambaste it with the blatantly obvious hollow Rep party line to make yourselves feel better and superior in some snotty-nosed grade-schoolish type way???

I'll say it again, pathetic.
