Well, I think the son of a Nazi would fit right in with the current leanings of this WH.

You should know better than to say that the BFEE/PNAC Petroleum Pirate Possee would not be able to treat Der Governator like a Democrat. They'll do exactly that and Ahnuld will thank them for it afterwards.

Posted by DMC at November 14, 2004 08:29 AMThe concept of allowing a naturalized citizen to become president is a reasonable one. If we think they are good enough to bestow the privilege of US citizenship on them, all other possible rights, privileges and responsibilities should follow, as well. OTOH, pushing this issue for the express purpose of gaining access to a foreign born, but popular (Schwartzenegger) figure, as your party's candidate for president, smells bad. Perhaps this should be pursued with a future target date for implementation in order to effectively remove current political individuals from the mix.
Posted by acf at November 14, 2004 09:02 AMGiven what looks like the list of choices from the GOP in 2008 (Frist, Santorum, Hastert, etc.) I'd prefer Arnold over any of these.
Yes, he's a groper but he isn't a fundamentalist.
For pity's sake!! Look at the people behind the push for Schwarzenegger. This is a concerted effort to take California's electoral votes away from the Democrats for good, which will guarantee they will lose all future presidential elections. In addition it will internationalize campaign funding because countries in the Pacific Rim will fund Schwarzenegger's re-election campaign. This gives Republicans access to unlimited campaign dollars from China and Japan who are extrinsically intertwined in California's major industries (not the least of which is the film industry). To compete with this strategy will drain the Democratic coffers. It's the same "bait and switch" tactic as gay marriage. It takes full advantage of the inclusive nature of Democratic ideology. If Democrats say they don't support the rights of naturalized citizens to run for office, it makes them sound like hypocrites and bigots. This is the most insidious NeoCon project yet and it clearly demonstrates how far the NeoCons are willing to go to destroy opposition parties.
Posted by Gwyn at November 14, 2004 09:24 AMHere's the problem: These people are radicals. There is no rule they will not change (filibuster, gerrymandering, etc.) as long as it will benefit them. There is no abstract reasoning, no agreed on bigger picture of what right is, what justice is, what laws are, than what serves them. That is why it is wise to look at anything they do with suspicion, no matter how innocuous this may seem. Remember: These are not Eisenhower Republicans.

For crying out loud - get REAL!
Stand up for YOUR beliefs - don't look over your shoulder at what the other side is doing.
Posted by at November 15, 2004 07:37 AMDo I hear Bush/Schwarzenegger in '08?
The next big thing coming (but not until oh lets say late 2006) is the let's abolish the two term limit for presidents. By then we should be at war with enough of the world that comparisons to FDR will be easily applied to the reasoning for make the changes.
Get in line people.
