Only one national reporter covering this ballot question. And he's on thin ice, jobwise, by now. Media Control is the key to the kind of government Bush leads. Think, for a moment, what it would be like if all the News and Media outlets were asking the same questions Olberman is.
Posted by T2 at November 17, 2004 06:29 AMIt was not stated in the media matters article that not only was Olbermann wrongly accused of "paranoid conspiracy" theories, but also that the attacks both misrepresent the evidence of bias in the optical scan machines in Florida. Both Coulter and Steigerwald represent the issue as being that substantial numbers of registered Democrats voted for Bush, and then point out that this has happened in the past in Florida and among Southern democrats. The bias that is pointed out is instead that there was a substantial increase in Republican voter turnout in these counties compared with 2000, while Democratic turnout was essentially the same or lower than in 2000 in these counties. The non-optical scan counties in Florida showed essentially equal increases in turnout from 2000. This is the statistical evidence of vote-rigging, also confirmed by the inconsistency of the exit polls, and I have not yet heard any reasonable explanation of this discrepancy.
The article also didn't mention that Rush Limbaugh has also been attacking the vote fraud, even having a call-in guest claim that she "worked in the computer industry" and that it would require "hundreds of people to be in on it" in order for computer vote-rigging to occur. Of course this is also false. I don't have a link for this but I heard it on Limbaugh on Veteran's day after a long complaint about the pulling of Private Ryan.
More interesting, why are the right-wing talk show hosts and media bringing so much attention to this when the mainstream media has been pretty much ignoring it or otherwise claiming (wrongly) that it is just internet conspiracies that have been debunked, and not ignoring it themselves? I think it is a combination of guilty consciences and the worry that this will soon become a more publicized issue. They are silently acknowledging that they are capable of this, so they attack the messenger rather than trying to claim that they are "honest" or otherwise incapable of such criminal behavior. This speaks volumes.
Posted by c at November 17, 2004 07:08 AMTwo outcomes of the recount are possible: 1) Bush "wins" again; 2) Kerry wins a) before the Electoral College meets or b) after it meets. If it's event 2a, does anyone think the Bushistas will go quietly? And if it's 2b, does anyone have a clue as to what will happen?
Posted by Brian Boru at November 17, 2004 07:09 AMBrian
If 2a, the GOP will riot worse than they did during the 2000 Forida recount.
If 2b, then anything could happen, including John Dean's worst-case forecast of a Second American Civil War.
Don't rule anything in between out of the picture.
Posted by pessimist at November 17, 2004 07:37 AMwhy are the right-wing talk show hosts and media bringing so much attention to this
It's the tactic they use to blunt opposition and replace truth with lies in the minds of the robots that listen to theses pukes.
a Second American Civil War
Nah. Business won't allow it. They'll lose profits. Of course, it probably is high time for a redistribution.
Posted by phidipides at November 17, 2004 07:50 AMI get the strong impression that the Bush Junta won't be going anywhere, regardless of the outcome of any stinkin' election. Can anyone really believe that, if an Ohio recount gave the nod to Kerry, BushCo would leave. They won't. They'd point to the popular vote and launch legislation to dump the EC, get that tied up in the courts, and continue to rule.
Posted by T2 at November 17, 2004 08:00 AMI would tend to agree with you T2, as much as it pisses me off, but the Rovian political machine would not let it go. He has a history of sueing and appealing right up to the supreme court (ah lah 2000) and back again until he gets the outcome he wants.
Kerry DID win, but it doesn't matter. I'm really having a hard time letting it go though...

Keep up the drumbeat and maybe it'll happen.
Posted by Sharon at November 17, 2004 12:26 PMGet real! If recounts establish that Kerry won Ohio or Florida, even Karl Rove with his hand in the Bush glove puppet will not be able to do anything more than futilely delay the inevitable by appealing all the way to the Supreme Court.
There's NO WAY Bush would be able to stay on by force.

I am so angry after listening to this.
The people who organized this voter disenfranchisement are the worst kind of bottom-feeding scum.
Posted by Lawrence at November 17, 2004 11:01 PMI have just found a very interesting possible discrepancy; in all of the major swing states, there were at least 150.000 more vote for presidnt than placed in the race for the senate in the same state. Oddly enough this is not true in non-swing states.
For pres. for senate
Ohio: 5465000 vs. 5287000
Indiana: 2444000 vs. 2445000
Florida: 7529000 vs. 7412000
Pensylvania: 5681000 vs. 5479000
Is it only me, or do these numbers just not add up?
