Comments: The New Conquistadors

While we have been doped with trytophan, the war in Iraq has palyed on. Two news accounts relate that the tactics Americans have been using are losing the war -or what ever the hell Bushco mislabels bringing democracy as- for the hearts and minds of the Iraqis.

Writing about British troops on a mission in Iraq.
Ibrahim Ahmed, 31, a father of two who grows potatoes and onions on a patch of land near to the river, did not like the soldiers being there, but at least they weren't American. 'When the Americans come they order us to lie down on the ground and point guns at our heads.' Like everyone else he has a horror story to recount; his uncle shot in the head by US troops while on the way to sell vegetables in Falluja's market.

Writing about British refusal to cooperate with Americans.
The Observer has learnt that at least four American requests for British troops have been rejected in the course of this year, because of fears that they would lead to significant civilian casualties...Senior officers felt that responsibility for such 'collateral damage' might jeopardise British operations in their core area around Basra, which depend on the good image of British troops.

there's no "u" in Colombia - We have the District of Columbia but they have the country of Colombia.

My bad! Still using borrowed Internet access and have to rush posts on occasion without proper spell checking.
