While "outrage fatigue" certainly applies here, you missed an important reason why the EPA report issue is so buried - the other issues you cite hit a lot closer to home, and therefore are considered more important. These issues will then get all the attention.
I too miss the "good old days" of pre-9/11 America, but until we stop playing the conservative game of always looking backward, and get back to the liberal game of "what if", Then we aren't going to have anything to offer to the public - again.
The American People have to make some changes in their direction before the politicians make changes in theirs. It will have to start with us.

Bill Clinton was not evil enough for his own good. He should have assaulted civil liberties and plotted world domination. Monica who?

I wasn't even going back that far. I just miss the days when we were fighting against standard corporatist GOP shenanigans, nice and evenly spaced.

Good post. I suspect that what's going on is that none of this stuff has impacted Americans' lives. Clinton's blue dress provided entertainment fodder, so did the war in Iraq. The consequences of Bush's policies haven't become clear yet, but as they become clear, as soldiers die and as the economy continues its sluggish path, as our cities and states cut teachers and firefighters, and as our children suffer in fear, Americans will demand new solutions to the problems that Republicans have articulated well but failed to solve.
Posted by MattS at June 27, 2003 10:11 AMThis could lead to a consequence!
"In recent months, President Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress have missed no opportunity to heap richly deserved praise on the military. But talk is cheap — and getting cheaper by the day, judging from the nickel-and-dime treatment the troops are getting lately."
There is a lot more, but it's beginning to sound like the Bush Gang is beginning to lose the loyalty of their muscle.
Posted by pessimist at June 27, 2003 10:26 AMMatt, I agree. It is exhausting keeping up with all their "bright ideas".
The one thing I thought about with the EPA report, it actually shows how effective regulations are in improving our environment. One comment I saw was that we can use this report as a baseline to measure the policies of the Bushies.

What's that line from Carly Simon's "Anticipation"? Oh yeah, "These are the Good Old Days."
