Digby has a nice piece on Howie, nice of blowing chunks can be considered "nice."
The goppers are whining about the $724 B being for a full ten years on the Drug Plan, versus their original pack of lies you blogged a while back, but if you do some really simple math, it's still way over what they said it would be, and that's after including $145 billion more from beneficiaries' premiums according to this AP article
But we mustn't raise taxes back up to pay for either his War Adventures or his Pack O Lies Medicare Drug Benefit. No, we don't need to negotiate with the drug companies for better prices, or go to Canada for competitive pricing, nope, just like KBR's no bid contracts, free enterprise and its invisible hand will solve all.
Like you say, Blog Lord, Big Pharma, and Grover the Hoover gotta love it.

Posted by Duckman GR at February 10, 2005 11:02 AM...in tomorrow’s New York Times that the Bush White House suppressed the release of a report ...from the 9/11 Commission which asserted that the administration and specifically the FAA didn’t take the necessary steps to beef up airport and airline security in the face of specific warnings prior to 9/11
Now, hold on a cottonpickin' minute. 'Says HERE that the gub'mint got all bothered about possible "aerial incursions" enough so that they put up anti-aircraft batteries and placed the Pres'dint safely aboard the USS Enterprise during the G8 confab in Genoa, Italy. So that there is solid pr...uh, lemme see here. OK, folks my brain wheels are all gummied up. That woulda been the Italian military took those steps with the SAM sites and all. Now, you'd think they would be kind enough to let us know 'bout these things so we don't wind up lookin' foolish and all, am I right?
Ontheotherhand, says HERE that our military was busy practicing for aerial attacks by planes on Nineleven. So there you go...we were virtually ready. If those dirty rotten rats woulda tried anything on September 12th, why, our guys woulda taken care of some biznezz, if ya know what I mean.

Did you ever try Pizza and Pipes before they shut 'er down, Steve? $4.99 pizza or something like that. Back in the day.
I think the whole privatization and corporate/public switching to defined contribution plans are an attempt to force Americans to work longer. The easiest way to cover retirement benefits, is to keep folks from retiring.
The more I think about it.
Companies and public agencies gave away the store in the 1990's when they thought we were in this era of 20% returns every year. Tulipmania.
Now, they realize that folks just won't be able to retire at 55 or 60. There's not enough money. They can't come out and say that. So, they'll just rig the system so that folks who are in their 30s and 40s today, won't have enough cash to do it.
