Comments: Maureen Dowd And Sidney Blumenthal Zero In On the Gannon/Guckert Story

to illustrate the hypocrisy of republicans..can you possibly imagine their outrage...if it were during the clinton presidency that this gannon story broke....these people have absolutely no shame at all

Well, someone inside the WH saw to it that he had access. The question is why. Was it to use him to promote the Bush agenda by asking rehearsed questions, or was he blackmailing someone for access, and if so, why? Either way, someone knew his less than admirable past and is either involved, or is one stupid fuck.

The point is, there are legions of right-wing shills available for hire for this kind of duty who do not have a dicey background. To take on the risk of using this one, they had to have additional motivations. And, as proof that there's something there, note that we're getting terror alerts again, for the first time in months.

Well well, I guess the Today Show felt it might mention this "little" story. This is one time they didn't try linking the Democrats to the story, i.e., witch hunt.

Mamayaga, great point. I was wondering about that and overlooked the obvious. It's difficult sometimes to train my mind to think like this WH. No specific threat, no "color code", no information on threat. Very timely indeed. Hell, the fact that there will be another attack is certainly not new information is it. Hopefully will be one story that they can't stop. Ah, hope springs internal in the soul.

Again, most if not all the regular WH Press gaggle knew this Gannon chap was a fake. But they went along. Now that the kitty is out of the bag, they are gonna hop on the bandwagon. This has been the m.o. of the press/media for 4 years....go along with the WH lie until the last gulp, then pretend to "see some irregularities" when the lies are too obvious to ignore (i.e. WMD in Iraq until Kay finally bailed). Of course the WH knew what/who this guy was (maybe Tenet told them he was clean). The question at this point was how many knew, and how high up were they. Clearly, whoever told him about Plame was not the WH custodian. Was it just Scotty?Or did he inherit the "secret" from Ari? The fact that the Talon owner was connected to Texas should provide a hint. Let's see, who in the WH lived in Texas recently. That would be Bush, Rove, Scotty, Hughes! Which of them would know about Plame?

Wait...Sid Blumenthal is accusing a writer of whoring for the President?

SID BLUMENTHAL?!!

Some people apparently don't own mirrors.

bush would be the only one with the info. the others would have had to get it from - cheney? libby?

small minds, you'd better ignore the question; it's the only strategy left.

This guy is supposed to be directly (and I mean Lewinski directly) related to someone who is a Topper in the admin. The idiot son is supposed to have had a few "Man dates" when ripped in the 70's, and who knows how the predelection carried through the rest of his life. And the way he treats the military, I can imagine him bending over a guy in fatigues. The rumor mill says Guckert can be turned since he feels out-ed and screwed by the republi-cons. Don't tell me it was Scotty...I need a few moments of reverie as I envision the idiot son saying, "I did not have sexual relations with that man!"

Is Rove married?

Posted by T2 at February 17, 2005 07:40 AM

phidipides-

Gannon is a "top". Maybe Bush has a submissive streak, as well as a bald head fetish. My bet is that it is Rove- his fawning description of meeting Bush for the first time raised my 'brows.

Posted by Peconicrat at February 17, 2005 09:18 AM

Given his penchant for nicknames, my guess is that Jeff Gannon was referred to by Bush as "Buffy".

now we know where the shrub learned how to wear that flight suit.

Possibly I appall too easily, and I know I'm stating the obvious, but the danger of this whole thing really appalls me.

A blackmail-vulnerable person like J. Gannon/Guckert might easily have been pressured to use his ready access for even more harm that he has done. If he can be bought for prostitution, what else will he sell if the pressure is great enough? If threatened enough what might he do? (It only takes once)

The idea that a vulnerable amoral person like this has had access to the sensitive areas of the White House and has more than once been in the physical presence of the president, gives me, who voted against Mr. Bush and opposes everything for which he stands, the cold chills.

Where are those who are protecting the head of our government? Where are those who are guarding our state secrets?

There are names for those who open the gates to enemies for personal gain.

Who are the quislings in the White House?

Who are the traitors in positions of trust?

theres'whoring...and then theres'whoring...one is figurative....and one is real

Rove is married but who knows with this smoke administration. Smoke screen hetero marriages, smoke and mirrors budgets, blowing smoke up The public's arse, pole smoking in the Lincoln bedroom, etc.

I think it is time to assign bear and hanky codes to buggers the west wing.

Or "Topper".

Or "Ma petite choux."

Or "My lumpette."

In short, a completely unremarkable work history, he he been employed by a democratic administration- but then, they DO hold us to higher standards than themselves.

If I were Guckert, I would be very worried about my physical well-being. I can see the headlines now - "Guckert Commits Sucide. Distraught Over Controversy".
