Comments: The Faith-Based Initiative As a Means to An End

Insightful indeed.

I think that the first thing to do would be to expose that "don't give a shit" position to the general public, because - as the people directly affected by most of those government programs - I'm pretty sure that they give a shit.

To do that, the best thing to do is to get the media to do their job and stop being the butlers of the repubs.

In Memoriam

This is a must read, I have emailed it to everybody I know... if it is right it is the story of the war...

Suburban Guerrilla

IN MEMORIAM
Today I'm going to do something a little bit like journalism, except I haven't done any real follow-up. Still, it's an important issue, and I'd like any Google maestros reading to help.

Go to your local newspaper site, or TV station site, and do a search for "local man woman killed wounded Iraq". Weed out the duplicates, total the numbers, and then check them against the casualty lists, because there's something funny going on here.

I started to notice something several months ago. The local papers would interview the mother of someone killed or wounded in Iraq, and more often than not, there'd be a bitter aside: "Of course, for some reason, he's not included in the offical totals."

Somehow, that struck a chord. And the thought crystallized: They're lying about the numbers. Think about it - it's absurd to think they wouldn't, considering everything else they've done.

So I started reading. Here's what I've found.

For at least three years, we have been treated to one "disgruntled former employee" of the Bush Admin after another tell America the same story: With BushCo, it's all politics; no policy. If we had a legit Media, maybe enough citizens would have become "disgruntled" enough to have voted for Kerry. But we don't, and apparently we aren't.

"They" -- the particular faction of the Republican party that currently holds power -- give a s*** about a few things: Taxes. They don't like taxes.

I think the GOP puts economic growth at the top of their list.

muck, economic growth might be written on the top of the republican's list, but just because it written on list doesn't mean it actually occurs. Economic growth is at the top of most peoples list muck, it's only happens that democratic economic policies are the ones that usually make it become a reality for everyone.

Emal, that's a pile of partisan blather. GDP is truckin' along at 3-4%. We're in the sweet spot.

muck, that's no partisan blather it's historical fact and reality. There is more to life than the GDP when it comes to economic growth and prosperity. If you call this the sweet spot then I hate to see what it is you consider paradise muck.....

Let's me refresh your rememory muck-Since Junior was selected, tax revenues are down (after the largest tax cut in history-hey isn't that contrary to the trickle down theory muck), trade deficit is exploding (but I guess exporting debt is a big hit), wages are stagnant among most Americans- the gap between the rich and the poor is getting bigger, energy and healthcare costs up, job growth (except in the government) is practically zilch, surpluses gone, deficits and debt increasing, poverty up, abortion numbers up (oops just slipped that one in here-but it is a fact), savings rate down, credit card debt up, companies that offer pensions and benefit packages to their employees down, people who lack healthcare coverage up, US financing and borrowing from foreign countries up.....Go ahead muck keep believing your policies are actually good for all Americans muck..have faith muck, because reality bites.

Supply side economics is a farce muck. Clinton proved it, tax rates were more progressive under him and the GDP grew, tax revenue grew (hey isn't that contrary to your supply side theory) , more jobs were created yet government jobs shrunk muck, deficits were cut, debt was cut,we had budget surpluses muck...Peace and prosperity.

Peace and prosperity...your guys can only write it at the top of a list muck, our guys can actually delivery it.

Have faith muck, your gonna need it as a serf ;~p

Social conservatives get thrown a bone often enough that they believe this administration's p.r. OTOH, where are they gonna go? The one scary area though is the Courts. Reagan hit on the formula of not wasting political capital on things like abortion, but putting very conservative people on the court. A kind of stealth reward that is more insicious than publicly taking a stand. Bush seems to carry on this tradition but with much more active pandering to the social Right.

Emal, that's a pile of partisan blather. GDP is truckin' along at 3-4%. We're in the sweet spot.

Until you factor in imports that are off GDP. Then you get about 1% - 1.5%, and if you match our methodology to the rest of the world, GDP becomes even or slightly negative.

I think the GOP puts economic growth at the top of their list.

Economic Growth = Pillaging
