I can't believe Harold Ford signed that letter. I guess he has given up his quest to be Senator from TN.
Posted by Byron from Denver at March 9, 2005 02:23 AMWe will never forget!
We know who they are really fighting for, and it certainly isn't the average American.
Posted by emal at March 9, 2005 04:44 AMFord is clearly conflicted, since he has such a hard time with things like this and SS. Maybe he needs reminding who his constituency really is.
Maybe a web based withholding of campaign contributions to wavering dems as a demonstration? Lots of cash gets raised this way, perhaps we need to flex our muscles a bit.
Posted by Duckman GR at March 9, 2005 06:08 AMI am about to pound Dennis Moore's head into the fucking ground on this one. I've sided with my representative on probably 90% of the issues, but this one I have no fucking clue as to why he's so damn anxious to pass through.
This is embarrassing for me and my district for him to support such a grievous bill.
Posted by MisterOpus1 at March 9, 2005 06:59 AMContact your state legislators and get them to pass bills mandating that all credit card consumers be given counseling on this bill, or that credit card companies be permitted to opt-out of these provisions. Undermine this farce at the state level
Posted by Frank at March 9, 2005 07:22 AMI've printed this list and I am going to file it for future reference. NOT ONE of this herd of swine will ever receive a contribution, suggestion, or even a kind word from me from now on.
What the Cheney makes these "Democrats" think that their positions are so "New" anyway? Appeasement, capitulation and selling out for handouts from Daddy Warbucks is getting pretty darn old for my taste. I can see laying low if your district is benighted enough to want passage of this poisonous legislation, but to proudly sign a letter! to Hastert! demanding swift passage shows they have not a single clue as to who the Democrats are supposed to represent.
This entire bunch of Democrat Losers Club asswipes are clearly working to enrich the corporate kleptocracy that has sadly replaced the quaint dreams of Jefferson, Adams and Washington. I would gladly support Howard if he decides to run primary opposition to these creeps. Unfortunately, he probably thinks he can still work with them.

Posted by benjoya at March 9, 2005 09:43 AMI am from MI and still cannot believe Sen. Stabenow voted to pass this piece of crap legislation. I have never seen such an anti-working person or anti-small business piece of legislation like this before. I campaigned heavily for Democrats in '04. Sen. Stabenow, you had a slogan, "On Our Side". Well, its obvious that you are not on "our side". You're on "their side" and I will not vote or campaign for you in '06. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
Posted by roamer at March 9, 2005 12:38 PMThree signatories to that letter (Bean, Herseth and Moore) are on the DCCC's "frontline" list. That's the list of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents, to whom all safer Members are supposed to funnel excess campaign cash.
Do they deserve to stay there? Do they deserve to stay in Congress on what might very well be your dime? If you gave to someone else who won their seat last time around, how would you feel about your check being forwarded to one of these three?
There's still time to put the Caucus on notice that the bankruptcy bill will be considered a leadership vote in the House, and that all the penalties that go along with bucking the leadership on it should be expected.
