Comments: Bush Losing Support Of Financial Services Companies On Private Accounts

Think you better hit the history books and see that FDR (a democrat), envisioned a self-sustaining SS system based TOTALLY on investments. It was designed so people really put there $$$ into an account for them, not like the present day - people are paying others that are drawing it out.

It eventually evolved into the un-intended social monolith of today. Check the facts!

People here aren't interested in facts, Maddie.

It does appear as if social security privatization is dead, which means the retirement age is probably going up and that benefits for early retirement will be reduced. That'd solve the problem and keep the ponzi scheme going.

Maddie Dog, where exactly is that quote from FDR? Please point to it and show us where.

Steve, great post as usual, except for the part about Brooks - his column was a bunch of disingenuous nonsense - wet noodling for rethuglicans so he could whack the donkey with a nail studded paddle.

That FDR quote is probably in the same place all of Saddam Hussein's WMD's are at.

history: the component of SS for people too old at the program's inception to have paid a lifetime of premiums would have to be supplemented until that cohort died off (c. 1960).

why not move on to the flat tax, maddie? you've lost this one. (although i encourage all republicans to run on SS privatization - it's what the people want!)

Posted by benjoya at March 15, 2005 10:52 AM

Well, benjoya, looks like the 2006 battle lines are shaping up. GOP running on social security and the war on terror, and the democrats running on gay marriage, hiking taxes, and cutting the military.

Gee, I wonder how that'll play out... LOL.

Posted by muckdog at March 15, 2005 11:06 AM

Muck, what exactly are the Republicans going to run on regarding Social Security when the public is already against Bush on the issue? And have you seen some platform or policy document from the Democrats calling for gay marriage, defense cuts, and raising taxes, or are you just pulling stuff out of your ass again?

By the way, as you would know since you read this site sometimes, according to the polls the issue of defense cuts is not as toxic as you think.

wild guess: the latter.

Again, I'm thinking' that such a platform is to be found in the same place as the FDR quote and Saddam Hussein's WMD's.

Whether that's up muckdog's ass or not is anyone's guess. But if it is it must be awfully crowded up in there.

Muck,
Do you realize that Bush is cutting police officers and firemen so that he can build a palace in Baghdad? Building palaces in Iraq is considered in the military budget.

Posted by ga6thdem at March 15, 2005 12:55 PM

a little bit of truth shut the muckdog up.

Posted by Zappatero at March 15, 2005 01:16 PM

Maddie Dog, I'm still waiting for that quote and citation from FDR.

Posted by Steve Soto at March 15, 2005 01:17 PM

We shall see in the fullness of time. But most every GOP candidate in 2006 will state: "I am for marriage being between a man and a woman; where does my opponent stand? I oppose hiking taxes on American families; where does my opponent stand? I believe we should support the troops, and win the war on terror; where does my opponent stand?"

And, that'll be all she wrote. Cue the fat lady.

Posted by muckdog at March 15, 2005 04:05 PM

oppose hiking taxes on American families; where does my opponent stand? I believe we should support the troops, and win the war on terror; where does my opponent stand?"

i imagine this mythical dem will say something like: "i believe we should not support the troops, and furthermore my plan is to surrender in the war on terror."

hey muck, i think chevy stole your name (or maybe it was ROOF)

Posted by benjoya at March 15, 2005 04:19 PM

Muck,
The Dem will say "I will find Osama. I won't let him go like the GOP did." The Dem will say "My opponent supports a $50,000 birth tax and I don't." The Dem says "I don't support ss privatization and my opponent does."

Posted by ga6thdem at March 15, 2005 05:08 PM

Hmm thougth of some more
Dem: "I support the right to privacy, my opponent does not."
Dem: "I support responsive and responsible government and my opponent does not."
Dem: "I believe that criminals should not be speaker of the house and my opponent does."

Posted by ga6thdem at March 15, 2005 05:10 PM

"I will find Osama. I won't let him go like the GOP did."

osama, osama, hmm . . . rings a bell . . .

i got it - he's that new senator from iowa! some say you can't be a senator if your skin's a certain color. not me. of all people, senator osama should know how important my social security reform is. i'm down with the brothers, as they say.

Posted by dubya at March 15, 2005 05:28 PM

LOL.
Steve, this troll who keeps popping up with different names sure is funny!

Anon troll-do you write comedy for a living?

Posted by ga6thdem at March 15, 2005 05:48 PM

ga6th, that last "dubya" was me. that was also me recently as wolfowitz, rummy, dick "lon" cheney, lieberman, kissinger, king fahd and osama. and pdb, that's my favorite - he says the same thing every time. i don't write comedy for a living but i'm working on an animated screenplay; you never know.

but how could you call me a troll - do i ever make bush et al sound like anything but the liars, thieves and killers they are? i prefer to think of myself as a parodist with the attention span of a six-year-old.

Posted by benjoya at March 15, 2005 07:35 PM

oh, and i'm toady pretzel, too.

Posted by benjoya at March 15, 2005 07:46 PM

benjoya,
I meant troll in a kind of sarcastic way. No, you aren't a troll ala muckdog. Sorry, I didn't mean to offend.

And your posts as dubya et al are a scream!

Posted by ga6thdem at March 15, 2005 07:47 PM

ga6th, no offense taken. thanks for the good review.

Posted by benjoya at March 15, 2005 08:23 PM

Dem: Dem: "I support responsive and responsible government and my opponent does not."

Cue the crickets chirping.

Posted by muckdog at March 15, 2005 09:09 PM

Of course, Muck, you don't want government of, by or for the people. That's why you support Bush. Face it, you love Big Government, that's why you voted for Bush. Bush puts the Con in conservative.
