Comments: Slouching Toward Tehran, Republican Style

I've always found the new republi-can'ts and neo-cons to be separated by less than one degree from the Taliban

Posted by phidipides at March 22, 2005 08:28 AM

Separated Phidip?!?!?!?! Christ, they're practically joined at the hip with their actions of late!! Might as well parade around with turbans on proclaiming all women must 'cover up' when in public...!!!

Sickening isn't it?!?!?

Posted by Marty at March 22, 2005 08:51 AM

News of a different sort. The Army raised it's Reserve enlistment age to 39. Things are getting really shitty after the victory and democracy thing in Iraq.

Too bad Cole doesn't have comments at his site. That was an awesome piece he wrote. I've linked and emailed it to several people this morning.

Have the Repubullahs beheaded the Bush Twins yet? Not a hide'ner hair of 'em since Coronation Day. You'd think, the Al-Mehedia would be all over the beauteous two since their graduation! What aaaarrrreee their plans? I can remember when Presidential daughters were great media meat! Luci Johnson took a job as a dental assistant one summer after high school--her every move was reported by the press! The Lynda Bird/Chuck Robb love story was LEGENDARY! The Nixon girls were goddesses! Magazines were full of stories about them. What Tricia ate, where she shopped. Oh, and Julie ALWAYS piped up to defend her father (a saint compared to what's there now). Where are the Twin Drunks? Can anybody point me to a website which may have information on them? I do admire them so!

Oh, and when is the theatrical film due out about what a great and brave man our President is? His fight for freedom in the Mid-East? The story of the Iraq invasion? The brave, noble men who surround him? Where is that movie? Where is the HBO bio of Condi Rice? Our fist BLACK woman Secretary of State? Where is the story of her fabulous rise from riches to riches?

Does the administration really think they are above Hollywood? We need our heroes! We need to look up to somebody!

Mal,

I think the twins are now fighting in Iraq, right?

If there's one thing that Bendito demonstrates on a regular basis it's that you can't program a bot with a conscience.

Posted by muckcat at March 22, 2005 12:11 PM

And another thing.

Why are all the people praying outside the hospice where the body of Terri Schiavo is being kept alive not standing outside the White House everyday praying vigil for the thousands of innocent lives George Bush has caused to be lost via his needless invasion of Iraq?

Posted by muckcat at March 22, 2005 12:15 PM

One right-wing, Bible-thumping argument I loved from yesterday (not an exact quote, but accurate) -- "How dare Michael Schiavo interfere with God's will by killing his wife?! How dare he play God and decide whether she lives or dies!?"

1) Seems that if the tube were removed, it would be in God's hands at that point...let God's will be done.

2) Since when could any human "interfere" with God's will? Seems like an awfully limited God if one human is that powerful.

3) Maybe it is the doctors that are interfering by keeping her alive?

4) What about all the the other patients on some sort of life support? (And yes it is life support if it keeping her alive.) Why hasn't Congress acted to prevent anyone else from being "murdered?" It seems that the doctors/hospitals would be all for eliminating the concept of a living will and DNR orders...think of all the money that can be made by keeping a body alive indefinitely!

...think of all the money that can be made by keeping a body alive indefinitely!

Wasn't that part of the storyline of the movie Coma.

Posted by at March 22, 2005 12:35 PM

Coma was written by Michael Creighton. I'd forgotten about that book.

Did Coma's ending suck too?

I've read too many lousy "I can't think of a decent ending" Crichton books in my life.

I looked - Michael Crichton wrote the screenplay and directed the 1978 movie titled Coma. Robin Cook wrote Coma the book.

Posted by idiosynchronic at March 22, 2005 02:20 PM

I'll be damned, idiosynchronic. Thank you.

Crichton is actually a very, very good writer who whored his writer's soul for money. Need a good book? The Great Train Robbery is a great historical read.

Crichton's an MD too. What a waste--for us. Michael's rich, I guess he's satisfied with it.

Carla Sauer Iyer, a registered nurse who provided care to Terri Schiavo from 1995 to 1996 at a convalescence home in Largo, Fla., told FOX News in an interview Tuesday that her patient would interact with staff, was alert and aware and could talk.

"Her cognitive abilities including laughing, talking, letting you know she was in pain," Iyer told FOX News, adding that Terri Schiavo could say words like "mommy," "help me," "hi" and "pain."

She also said Schiavo had accurate reflexes on demand. Nurses also were able, at times, to feed Terri thickened liquids such as pudding and Jello with a baby bottle.

Iyer also claims that one time when she put a washcloth in Terri's hand to test her reflexes, Michael Schiavo would get upset and say, "that's therapy — take that washcloth out."

"I think a gag order has been put on all positive things that Terri has done," claimed Iyer.

Iyer said she was coming forward "to let the truth be known, to let the people know. I was one of the few people who was able to see Terri. She was able to talk, communicate with staff ... I want the public to know the truth."

Michael Schiavo has not responded to repeated interview requests from The Associated Press

Isn't it interesting that every report on Shiavo from medical professionals who are and have been involved in the case, court appointed guardian, and her husband are all wrong, except Fox News.

Yeah, she gets up early most mornings, has some coffee, and then goes for a mile walk. It's because of people like the above post that keeps this fraud going on and on and on. SHE HAS NO BRAIN!!!!!! WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THOSE FOUR WORDS??????

Posted by Judith at March 22, 2005 04:34 PM

It's strange- Conservatives don't trust the government to do anything right, except when it comes to extremely complex moral and personal issues like abortion and the right to die....

Posted by swamp thing at March 22, 2005 05:27 PM

The above post accurately describes one of the many republican hypocrisies. They're all for small government, except when it comes to the largest issues involving people's personal lives. The only time they're for small government is when it comes to business profit, regulation, etc. Other than that, they basically stand for all types of intrusion into your personal liberties, privacy, etc.

I appreciate everybody's comment about the Twins! Do they get the publicity Camilla and Charles have? No! You know why the recent HS murders aren't getting as much play as Columbine? Because the perp did it on an AMERICAN INDIAN reservation in a state nobody ever heard of! Where the hell is Minnesota? I heard Allah Asshole is holding some kind of jihad in Waco. Whassthaaaat all about?

Posted by Mal Feasance at March 22, 2005 07:47 PM

The entire fucking nation has lost it's goddamned head. We are now the laugingstock of the planet. The world must be just a little concerned because we are as crazy as a pet coon and armed to the fucking teeth and willing to shoot any fucking thing. Culture of life my ass. We are the world's greatest culture of death. Schiavo is a fucking sideshow.

Posted by Vinnie at March 22, 2005 08:07 PM

I think the MSM wants to suppress the Minnesota shooting. Remember the assault rifle ban being lifted by our "culture of life" advocates, i.e. republicans. Can't have these pesky mass murders wrecking our "pro-life" news filters.

Posted by sf at March 22, 2005 08:38 PM

Yuval, this is a good name for a post, but you should have called it Slouching Tehran, Hidden Theocracy.

Posted by sf at March 22, 2005 09:06 PM

SHE HAS NO BRAIN!!!!!! WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THOSE FOUR WORDS??????

Not to be obvious about it, but isn't this a distinguishing characteristic of fervent bushies? They don't see 'no brain' as particularly disabling. Now, if you said "SHE HAS NO BANK ACCOUNT!!!" that would be different - then she would really be too far gone for those folks...

Posted by d'uh at March 23, 2005 05:02 AM

D'ud, your right. They did vote for a president with no brain, didn't they. In fact, their causes can only be advanced if the people have no brains. LOL

The reports I have heard are that the shooter had a handgun (a .44 I believe), and a shotgun. No assault rifles. If anything the right should be pointing to this and saying 'see, the assault rifle ban would not have made a difference here.'

Judith, sugar! Thanks so much for the Al-Jazeera Online tip! Explored it already. Don't pay attention to Phipidees vulgarity. He's just having fun-Bush style! Where are them Twins at? I do want to know.
