Well shit, Jim Lehrer said to a liberal guy something like "even though you're wrong on the issue..." (the guy thought Terri Shiavo has a right to die), and the guy said "opposing view"....and Lehrer is like "yeah, opposing, that's what I meant..." Talk about Freudian and transparent. I leave the tv off most of the time to avoid my blood pressure skyrocketing watching the dumbassedness that goes for entertainment and news. Fuck 'em if they can't "report" and then try to defend the indefensible. More power to you paradox, (I'm "katdesign" who made a comment on dKos under one of your comments....that damn war would not have been possible without the complicity of the MSM....they can whine, but they have a shitload of blood on their hands, and I don't want to hear it.)
Posted by Sharon at March 24, 2005 06:58 AMI've been trying for years to break my family of the habit of watching the 'news' and believing what they hear there. Anyone who takes the time to check out what is really going on through the Internet (even ignoring the questionable sites) cannot remain a believer of the news as presented by the media.
But as most people are too lazy to notice much, it isn't going to change anytime soon.
Posted by pessimist at March 24, 2005 07:08 AMJesus, man, why don't you tell us how you really feel? LOL!
I couldn't agree more, however. I think posts like these as well as a continual bitchslapping to the MSM will hopefully wake them up and get them to realize that the he-said/she-said bullshit coverage does not enhance ANYONE's understanding of reality, nor does it get ANYONE closer to the fucking Truth.
I've said it before elsewhere - get the fucking Truth, MSM. At least try FFS - try to get to it at all costs. They have both a moral and professional obligation to do so. If that Truth revealed hurts the Dems., so be it. At least it will be the Truth and as you alluded to earlier, at least the Dems. could actually learn something from it.
Can we honestly say the same thing about the GOP?
Posted by MisterOpus1 at March 24, 2005 07:10 AMHear! Hear!
The only reason Dana Milbank ever appeared good is because he/she's a one-eyed man/woman in the kingdom of the blind.

Posted by Ghost of Joe Liebling's Dog at March 24, 2005 09:08 AMOnly one problem. Anyone in the ICM caught telling the truth about the GOP will be fired immediately and will never work as a "journalist" again. Just talk to Dan Rather about this subject.
Posted by Growth Factor at March 24, 2005 10:09 AMGrowth Factor, you may be correct that the journalist involved might not work as an ICM "journalist" again, but the liberating thing about the internet(s) is the it disintermediates information and value control. A true journalist, someone who adds real value in terms of the information presentation, just might find that they can practice their craft perfectly well with the resources available through the internet. A true journalist who has durable relationships with the enterprises which are worthy of coverage will find that a market continues to exist for their insight. Even the worthies who might be covered will understand that it benefits them to allow such a journalist to continue to provide information to the public. Only the weasels who don't want any information about their activity being made known will resist, just as they resist the ICM "journalists" now. The difference will be that the internet journalist will be liberated from the restraining hand of their editor and publisher and American libel law makes it almost impossible to secure a verdict for a public personage, the last potential restraint on a journalist. All it takes is courage.
Posted by PrahaPartizan at March 24, 2005 11:15 AMPhew, I bet you're glad to get that off your chest. Now, hunker down and watch that Washington-Louisville NCAA game.
Posted by muckdog at March 24, 2005 02:07 PMWashington by 5.
In overtime.
Posted by muckcat at March 24, 2005 02:13 PMYes, by all means, let's turn our attention to sports and away from this ugly subject.
Well said, paradox. It's rare to read a missive that long and not come up with at least a bone shard of contention. Not this time.
You're goddamn right The Left is waking up to the inherent GOP bias of American corporate media. Of course they don't like hearing our complaints because not only are they difficult to brush aside, it's just another bit of pressure they know isn't going away anytime soon. Maybe half of 'em are so corrupt they don't realize it; the other half knows exactly what it's doing and on whose behalf.
What passes for "news" media today is a major reason why we now live in a post-Constitutional oligarchy. Regardless of whether or not they're capable of redeeming themselves, they shouldn't get to play the propaganda game without having to at least work for it. And we're apparently the only ones who will see to that sorry task.
On a semi-related note, I gave Thomas Friedman a slap today. Will he change? Hell no. But at least some of us - a lot of us these days, in fact - won't leave him to his shtick without challenging his usual & customary purveyance of wrong-headed conventional wisdom.
Posted by Arvin Hill at March 24, 2005 03:17 PMm'cat, what's funny is that Washington is the #1 seed, and Louisville (4 seed) is favored! Who makes these brackets up?
I like Washington to cover. I'm pulling for them to win. Go Huskies. Woof woof.
Lighten up Arvin. Politics is nothing but jawbone and bantor. Sports and Business are the real topics. Besides pop culture and sex, of course. Hubba hubba.
Posted by muckdog at March 24, 2005 03:55 PMMuck, glad to see your moral-humanist side of your priorities listed there..sports, business, pop culture, and sex. The common thread I see in all of those items you listed as the priority of what life is all about to you appears to be.... Who ends up on top!
