Comments: How the Liberal Media Myth is Created - Part 2

As I posted earlier, using "libruhl" as a slur seems to grinding on the nerves of the populace as a whole. I heard one of Rush-the-Lushes listeners attempting to slander the courts in the Schiavo case, claiming the judges were "libruhl", Terri's doctors were "libruhl", something even the Bimbo of Sleaze himself wouldn't tolerate.

Keyword searches are amazing things. Relying on the number of hits as a metric of bias is so goofy I can't bear to think about it. I've seen researchers use keyword searches as an indicator that a topic is under-developed or that there is activity in an area, or even to assess the keyword and the meaning applied to it across studies or reports. But much explanation follows, and examples of usage are always provided. It's good to see sleazy political hacks being held to the same standard we would expect of a 5th grader.

To Coulter, of course, this is all a sign of gruesome bias. She goes on to claim that the terms “religious right” and “Christian conservative” are now used “[j]ust as some people once spat out the term ‘Jew’ as an insult.”

Oh no, little "Lionel" Annie Coulter. We only spit when we hear your name. You've got the binge and purge part of the cycle down, Annie. Now if you could just get the potassium imbalance going you would soon be the perfect neo-con woman.

Good Lord. Could it be, maybe, just maybe that the reason you don't see references to "atheist liberals" is because there just aren't that many of them? No, it must be a conspiracy!

Well, regardless, the nutjob who tried to steal a gun to help save Terri Schiavo probably didn't do the religious right much good this week. Why is it that religious zealots are forced to violent acts such as this but "liberal atheists" aren't?

“Liberal Atheist” is already covered by the right, it is the educational elite tag. The opposite end of the spectrum from religious right is communist heathens. That part of the spectrum as been exterminated from American political discourse. The heart of this debate it to acknowledge the whole spectrum has had a “red shift” as would be expected when you start moving backwards really quickly. :)

Measure the impact of the voice of the Christian Coalition as compared to Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and American Atheists combined and you have the real answer here. The old saying that the squeeky wheel gets the grease has played out in these stats. Multiply that by the statistic that has become a right wing stat over the years--that 90 some odd percent of america calls themselves christian while less than 10 or so percent call themselves athiest.
