"Only those who do not have confidence that their arguments can convince people that their viewpoint is correct, resort to such malignant attacks. But when their actions are exposed to the light, they expose the weakness of those arguments to their audience."
Sounds like some of the trolls on this site.
Posted by Judith at March 29, 2005 06:46 AMGood post. When are people going to realize that the right sees politics as war and start fighting back. All the talk about framing, reaching out to the middle, and such is just so out of touch with today's reality.
In war, the object is to destroy your enemy--kill their soldiers--and that's just what the right tries to do on a daily basis, one person at a time. They are going. It's not about arguments--it's about taking down anyone who opposes them. You don't reason with your enemy. You destroy your enemy. When are people on the left going to wake up?
This is where libel and slander come into the mix, and a healthy dose of sueing the person unitl they have to live in a cardboard box comes in. One good thing about the new bancruptcy law is that a person generally can't duck financial responsibility for their egregious statements.
Posted by phidipides at March 29, 2005 06:58 AM"real conservatives" are going to be in for a shock when the finally realize that they, too, are expendable. The actions of the Bush Admin have repeatedly violated "real conservative" thinking, except for the racially tinged portion. So far, the "real conservatives" have been happy just thinking they are in power. With the massive deficit, the "nation-building" in Iraq and now this Schiavo fiasco, they must be scratching their heads a bit, wondering what's happening. Welcome to Dumpsville.
Posted by T2 at March 29, 2005 07:08 AMWhat is it about EVIL that America just doesn't get, and seems persistently unable to recognize??
And the fundies & religious extremists are clearly the ones who have the greatest impediment to seeing the Evil that operates right under their noses.
BLINDNESS CAN BE FATAL.
Posted by nikto at March 29, 2005 11:03 AMHelp for one of the good guys.
Two and a half years ago, when Congress was voting on the use of force against Iraq, Senator Byrd from West Virginia stood on the Senate floor and delivered a fiery speech. He told his colleagues that, "I truly must question the judgment of any President who can say that a massive unprovoked military attack on a nation which is over 50% children is 'in the highest moral traditions of our country.' This war is not necessary at this time." For those of us who opposed the war, he became a hero. And he's remained one, on many issues: just last week, Senator Byrd joined us at a MoveOn PAC rally to make a passionate appeal against the Republican plan to seize total control of judicial nominations in the Senate.
Now the senator needs our help. He's up for re-election in 2006. Because of his courageous stands, Republicans in the Senate have made him a primary target. They're already raising money to defeat him. And a critical deadline is coming up: on March 31st, Senator Byrd will report his campaign expenses to the FEC. He needs to show the press and public that he's got strong support.
Can you chip in now to support Senator Byrd?
