Comments: Don't Just Focus On DeLay, Think About Those He Helped

Duckman, it is WAY more complex than that. While searching for direct contributions from ARMPAC will yield strong results, the whole scheme is far more convoluted.

for example. ARMPAC gives LOTS of money to other PACs, such as the NRA, who then give to Republicans, kinda of like a huge money laundering scheme.

Katherine Harris........gee, where have I heard that name before?? Crooks and liars. All of 'em.

Posted by T2 at April 6, 2005 07:15 PM

Pounder, I know that, and obviously 5 grand or even 15 grand isn't going to buy a Congressman.

There were a couple of PACs in my scan, CANDICE was one, and a couple of others.

I wasn't doing a search to track all campaign contributions though. I'm looking for necks to hang the delay albatross around.

We don't need all the facts beyond a shadow of a doubt here. We need to tie these people to the stinking carcass of tom delay.

"Congressman Mack, I see that delay gave you thousands and thousands of campaign dollars, what did you do for that corrupt demagogue in return?"

"Congressman Fitzpatrick, you are a supporter of tom delay. tom delay is guilty of all sorts of gross violations of campaign laws and ethics. Are you a campaign law and ethics violator too? Or were you fooled by mr delay, and what does that say about your judgement?"

See, it can be a fun game!

For those interested, cut, past and sign the petition by Moveon.org.

It is time to fire Tom DeLay as House Majority Leader. Please sign our petition urging Congress to remove DeLay from his leader post at the link below.

http://www.moveonpac.org/delay/?id=5322-3876511-5BvaP.hG.AEXIls0b0R.sA&t=1

As the chorus of opposition grows louder, it is important to show that this isn't just a power struggle in Washington but that, in fact, millions of Americans share the same concerns about DeLay's pattern of repeated corruption.

Is it utterly forgotten that Sen. Schumer was assessed the largest fine in the history of the FEC, or that an aide of Sen Clinton is presently under indictment for concealing the amount and sources of contributions?

No, its just not "helpful" (as Jesse Jackson once dismissed a correction of fact), so it doesnt get reported.

And by the way, Judith, democrats cant vote to oust the majority leader, being in the minority and all...

Posted by Marcus Agrippa at April 7, 2005 12:28 AM

Marcus Agrippa, you have noticed who the majority is, yes? THAT is why they are (finally) getting focused on....and so NOW I understand why we always keep hearing about Clinton, Clinton, Clinton: because your guys are so rotten to the core, that you can only try to distract from their crimes. Thanks for clueing me in.

And even Republican representatives have Democratic constituents they presumably care about....and some of those constituents are moveon members.......

Marcus,

Ummmm,

So?

Got a point?

Has delay been fined?

Did Schumer direct half a million effing dollars to his wife and daughter of campaign contribution for, quote, campaign services?

Those FEC reports are so vague, they become meaningless except for who actually receives and gives the money.

Dinner? A pol has to eat right? Let the donations pay for it, not the pol.

But tommy boy goes way beyond the pale, he's built a machine that Boss Tweed couldn't even begin to imagine, nor would he have wanted to.

Posted by Duckman GR at April 7, 2005 05:39 AM

Its interesting I'll give you that, but lets not be hypocritical. PAC donations occur greatly to all parties. Lets not be selective here, go search and see how much money MOVE ON.org has given to everyones favorite racists Robert KKK Byrd. How about all the money that George Soros has given to cadidates and he was recently convicted for insider-trading in France.

I believe that if we want to change this country we have to be fair and put out the information of all of the people that except massive amounts of money from individuals, corporations, or PACs.

If we really want to turn some heads in this country we must stop turning a blind eye to the bad things in our party and show the people that we do not condone this for any reason.

Posted by bigdog at April 7, 2005 06:42 AM

bigdog, thanks for your helpful advice.

But, alas, you missed the point, and are trying to turn it into something else.

Being selective is the whole point. Yes, your other points are valid, and indeed, there is a problem with the corrupting power of political money. But just because we decry it, and part of what you seem to be advocating is for the Democrats to take the high road and gut themselves while the gop continues slithering along the mothers milk trail, does not have an effect on the problem.

But chopping off the head of one of the serpents, and exposing the corrupted flesh within will have an effect. delay is the sleeziest and most efficient money machine out there, and needs taking down, along with his organization.

So pointing out Democratic money operations doesn't address that problem, in fact, it's counter-productive, which you should know.

And comparing MoveOn to ARMPAC is at best disengenious, but really fraudulent. MoveOn is very open and upfront about their activities. MoveOn is not a creature of huge donors like scaife and ahmanson and big oil et al as ARMPAC and their like, are.

MoveOn is a grassroot organization that gets support from hundreds of thousands of individuals, and acts accordingly. Remember the big MoveOn presidential endorsement process prior to the primary season? They did not endorse a Democrat because the membership did not vote, get that, vote, in the majority for one candidate. Do you think ARMPAC donors vote for ARMPACs policies?

And I am not being hypocritical. I have an agenda. I'm fully aware of, and do not deny the existence of, Democratic campaign abuse. The Rostonkowski's and and Beam Me Up Scottie and what's his name from NJ that Lautenberg took over from, and the fact that the Democrats are NOT in power in DC is testimony to who is the bigger problem. Let's address the bigger symptom, and that's tom delay. Even the campaign corrupted Democrats were interested in making this country better. tom delay has no interest in that whatsoever. Make his rich corporatist cronies richer, and demagogue his ignorant religious fanatics into a frenzy, that's tommy boy's focus.

racists Robert KKK Byrd.

Weinee dog,

West Virginia is culturally part of the South.
As a Southerner I have no respect for anyone who tries to compare the pre-integration South with today. My family went through a lot of internal pain and conflicted loyalties during the 1960's. Senator Byrd has renounced his 'Klan mistake' more then once. Sir as a yankee you have no right to judge what;s not part of your history. My ancestors include Confederate veterians, does that make me a racist too? Before you give a snide answer let me say that I have been active in promoting interracial understanding scince high school, my background speaks for itself as does Byrd's mostly progressive Senate record.

Take a look at what is going into the pockets of Sen. Reid's (D- NV) lobbyist family members in return for consideration of privatization of thousands of acres of federally-owned real estate in the Las Vegas area.

The money in the DeLay case is small potatoes comparatively.
