Being the Arrogant One, Clinton's reception had to really anger him. Hey George, think you will be visiting foreign countries and walking around shaking hands with the cheering masses once you leave office? I think not.
Posted by Judith at April 8, 2005 07:43 PMCrowds in Italy must be smart because of that excellent education, healthcare and living standard higher than 80% of Americans, eh muck?
Posted by phidipides at April 8, 2005 08:18 PMClinton should run for President in Germany. With unemployment at 12.4%, he could sign a NAFTA-like deal that would help German companies outsource labor. That'd be popular.
Sure, Phidip. Italy is great as long as you don't mind the 44% pay cut.
The United States has the highest living standard of any major industrialized nation. Adjusted for price-level differences, per capita income in the United States exceeded the French level by 36 percent in 2003. At 42 and 44 percent, respectively, Germany and Italy lagged even further behind.

Europeans work fewer hours a week, get more time off, and do not worry about healthcare coverage like so many Americans do. This American "higher standard of living" is bs. We have more money to spend on useless crap and bigger homes, we work ourselves to the breaking point for worthless items advertising convinces us we need. I believe if better informed most Americans would prefer the European lifestyle.
