Comments: Armstrong Williams Report Shows Spellings And Bush Lied

What did you expect. This is the same crew that said they had no idea bin Laden would fly an airplane into buildings in this country. Yup they said that and still say that even though a PDB specifically titled "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States" dated August 6, 2001 pretty much spelled it all out for them (except for the specific flight numbers and time I guess).

Once again the choice the nation will face from this contradiction will be, is this a case of deliberate lying or will we be asked to believe (naively so) that they are incompetent and "had no idea" this stuff was going on, despite the facts in hand? I'll take door number 1 again and say these guys are perpetual liars, (even though they are also highly trained and skilled incompetents as we have seen with their gross mismanagement of money and the Iraq War). But true believers and a gullible, impotent press will tell us it was just a case of miscommunication...junior had no idea and didn't know. They lie because they can! No one calls them on it.

Oh how I long for the day the press call Bushco out on their bullshit.

Bush is lying (again).

And in other news, water is still wet.

Bush supporters aren't interested in real, factual information. They're interested in not paying taxes, pretending they're protecting fetal tissue and the brain dead..and working overtime to screw anyone they consider their "lessor".

Bush lies. big news.

The societal penalies for lying are supposed to be along these lines:

- people are shocked and think you are low life
- people indict you if you lie under oath
- people won't believe you in the future.

When none of these effects occur, why not lie?

(Remember the adage about why dogs lick their private parts: because they can)

when will it end? Where is the outrage? Are we just all tuckered out from the constant revealing of how evil and destructive this administration is?

Posted by jillian at April 15, 2005 06:36 PM

There was another thread in here that named others who feel as I do now. Can't find it right off, but the feeling is still there. I'm so tired of being outraged. Do you think that might be the plan? To just wear us out? We are working more and more for the same or less money. Damn I thought that my degrees meant something. Now I think not. Why I am I still stuggling to pay that student loan? What was I thinking?

Posted by michelle at April 15, 2005 08:11 PM

I'm just sick to death of this administration. Sick of the lies, the mendacity, the rightwing religious wackos, the invasion and occupation of Iraq and the deaths there, Tom DeLay and his merry band of morally challenged congressmen (including wimpy Democrats) and, and, and....And I want my country back.

so here's what buzz flash does: put a full page ad in the major papers, challenging bush to explain his lies, and back this up with a law suit (maybe by move on .org) and signature drive.to demand impeachment on war crimes etc. you need to attack him.(ala swift boat androve)..and get a special prosecutor (aka ken starr) to go after all of their crimes and misdemeanors. bush says the iou's backing s.s.trust are worthless pieces of paper. this is deliberate violation of full faith and credit clause. he lied about wmd"s (this is war crimes) enough ruminations...it's time to galvanize an offensive that will bring this administraiton down!!!!!!!!! get howard deane on board.

I agree big time with Dr. Robert Brogna

We need Dean to carry this out.

Posted by carole at April 15, 2005 09:12 PM

Dr. Brogna, now that's a plan I can get behind, but Cheney would have to go also.

This is the same Press Conference that some reporter asked Bush if Tom Delay's woes were due to a liberal press. Bush (laughing) says "of course not." I wish I knew that reporters name, and how much he was paid to ask that question.

Damn I thought that my degrees meant something. Now I think not.

Sure they do. Consider yourself foreign talent and market yourself in the world arena. The dream of America is largely dead, replaced by state ideals predicated on punishment, but you might be able to find contentment and happiness (or money, if that's what drives you) somewhere else. You could come back for a vacation every once in a while and see the stumps of the redwoods in California or how the Grand Canyon was filled in with refuse to make a parking lot.

It's what many creative and talented individuals here are doing. In a global economy America is still a big player, but slipping quickly. Save yourself while you can.

If you go to the Congressional Record online, you can do a search for mentions of "Margaret Spellings", in quotations to eliminate irrelevant references to stray Margarets and references to spellings. I checked vol 151 through 147, to get the relevant period at this link:

Advanced Search Congressional Record

I received a bunch of hits, but don't have the time to go through them all. Someone might find it though. I think her testimony may not be there, but thought it should be. You could keep searching under other terms. You could search only after 1/1/05. You could also select the various sections of the record. I found nothing that narrow. I'm not sure if they carry the transcripts of committees.

I also did a search at cspan.org, but did not find a recording on their website of her testimony. This is well worth digging up if it was possibly mentioned.

The Senate committee would likely be the best source for the transcript. I'd call the committee office and ask about getting a transcript. If they say no, try the minority reps office or Senator Kennedy's office, he is the ranking Democrat.

Senate Committee - Schedule January 6, 2005

Committee Transcripts Here

It looks like the GPO is a few years behind in putting the transcripts online. So you'll likely have to call the committee directly, and probably the minority staff or Kennedy's office to get a definitive answer.

The meeting referred to in the footnote was with David Dunn who was "Special Assistant" for Domestic Policy. Spelling was instead "Assistant" for Domestic Policy. The footnote makes clear that it was Dunn, not Spelling, at the meeting in the next sentence (not quoted in the post) where it uses "him" to refer to the Special Assistant. Dunn and Spelling worked together, so she may well have known about this meeting and its substance, but the post loses its credibility by getting these facts screwed up.

They're all lying douchebags.
I bet they drive really badly, too.

That should be "Spellings" not "Spelling" in my comments above.

Good point Clif; edits made.

Thanks.

Thanks phidipides for the input. However, I would rather stay here and see this thing out. Actually, being an ESL teacher, I am an ideal candidate to work abroad. I had to work abroad to get the position I have now. Yet since 9/11, my department has been put in an akward position. Because of Homeland Security, we have fewer students. We want to keep the ones we get. It is a classic bend-over situation. I find myself doing menial things for internationals and not being able to do anything about it -- because we want to keep students.

For me, it may end up that way though. I don't want to leave my house and family, but I may not have a choice. This is why I am so tired of hearing about how the estate tax hurts small business, so tired of hearing about how great Wallmart is, so tired of hearing about "the culture of life."

It's all so irrational. If I leave, I lose my voice. I choose to stay and fight. And it starts with DeLay. He gave a speach at the NRA thang tonight here in Houston. There was a little press about Republicans and others protesting outside the hotel he spoke at and hard numbers about how he barely held his district. I will do what I can to help bring him down.

I've had my rant. Thanks.

I believe Spellings did say that she would clean this up and it would be one of her priorities.

She planned to redact part of the study that was released...now why was that exactly?

Dunn? bingo.

This looks like a good thread to pull.
