Comments: MoveOn Ratchets Up the Pressure on Steny Hoyer

Fina-fucking-lly. We've needed our own club-for-growth for a while. Maybe MoveOn has finally found something it can *succeed* at.

I live in Ellen Tauscher's district in California. I wish they would target that piece of shit in Dem clothing.

Wow.

I'm going to toss some money MoveOn's way. I've had enough of being told that we've got to support the most craven of Democrats just because the Republicans are worse.

I do want the Dems to win the House back. But when 70+ Dems vote for the bankruptcy bill, a win will not be enough. We need to get challengers in the primaries.

Good. I am quite sick of this focus in the blogospehere solely on Republican atrocities when it is Democrats who ultimately enable the committing of such atrocities. From the tax cuts in two years ago, to the war, to the bankruptcy and estate tax bill, to the coming attempt to repeal SS, it is and will be Democrats assisting the Republicans.

The not-so-funny thing is that we would be better off focusing our attention on these asshole Demomcrats rather than on the Republicans, because, hell, there is a chance a Democrat might change after coming under attack from the left.

As often happens in the lefty blogosphere, we chase the wrong balls or ignore the issues where our real attention should be focused. sigh

Anyway, thanks Steve, for not ignoring the Democrat asswits. Shame Dailykos, atrios, Josh Marshall, didn't put the FULL weight of their mighty capacities to these latest nightmare pieces of legislation. Oh but I forgot there was Gannon/Guckert's non-military service to discuss /yawn/.

While we plunder the last of the loot from our LAST "victory", the enemy is getting away, reforming and on the attack again somewhere else.

Lastly, one of these days the lefty blogosphere might see that its true value is persistent motivation of its readers to synergetic acts that might make a difference.

Good for Move On. Many Democrats have played what they have perceived as a necessary political tactic to fund their campaigns. Do the bidding of large financial interests on issues on which the general public has no strong opinions regardless of whether it is good public policy. In the early 1980s, this took the form of supporting legislation desired by the Savings and Loan industry; we know what that led to.

It's time Hoyer and others get the message that there are political consequences for such votes for campaign cash. Good public policy does matter even when the public and media is not paying as much attention as it should. I want representatives who make good public policy their paramount concern.

Move On's campaign won't lead to Hoyer's defeat in the next election; his seat is safe. But I do hope it will cause him to reconsider his priorities as a congressional leader..

A small start, but a good one. Rpresentatives and Senators should be held accountable for their actions. Part of that accountability is sunshine on the way these scum accept money and pass legislation written by big business. The idea that business can hand a piece of legislation to Congress and have it passed intact under an elected officials name is repugnant. Not too long ago the culprit would have been tarred and feathered, then ridden out of town on a rail. We could use a little of that about now.

Syd makes good points. It's good to keep people informed about whores on both sides, but it's only the dems that potentially give a damn what we think. The only thing we want from Rs is that they be defeated and the election is 18 months away.

As usual the post and observations are excellent. There is simply no accountability inside the beltway. Moves along these lines need to be made. Scince 911 we have lived in a culture of fear, not only in manipulating the voters in campaigns but the GOP fears the radical right and the Dems. fear losing their share of corporate contributions. None of them fear the will of the people. This must change. Moves like this can bring about the change.

Exactly - I mean who the hell do people think are reading these lefty blogs? It is overwhemlmingly progressive/liberal or at least center-lefties. If you are not motiviating them to act, it really is just an echo-chamber ...

Not this site - but so many sites with in the lefty blogosphere are just cut and paste of news items and then a thread of people discussing that bit of news. Kind of waste of time beacuse buzzflash has gathered liberal news items quite nicely for 5 years now. Why do we need Steve Gilliard and others to do it?

Wrong? Hell, I think MoveOn should kill that guy, and everybody he knows, and everybody who voted for him.
