Comments: Jeffords Won't Run For Re-Election In 2006

They are thinking, "This state does not need another Republican office holder!"

Did Dean's agreement not to run for President include other offices as well?

Its a real shame he is retiring he set a fine example for moderates on both sides, when pressed too far stick to principle not party.

Bernie is as much of a shoo-in for this open Senate seat as Villiagarosa is for LA Mayor. It also seems that there is a strong Democrat availabe to win Bernie's Rep seat.

I agree with Marie that Bernie Sanders would be a welcome addition to the Senate. He's already a proven winner statewide (8x) so he's a logical choice to run for Senate.

I like Dean as well, but he doesn't strike me as having enough tolerance to be a Senator - he's more of an executive, not a legislator.

Besides if Dean bacame a Senator he'd neeeeeever have a chance at the Oval Office.

;)

Bernie's got it if he wants it (and I'd bet big money he does), and there are many capable Dems to take the House seat.

fwiw, Dean wasn't a particularly distinguished legislator back in the day. He does, indeed, seem to be more of an executive ...

Dean has no choice but to run for Jeffords' seat. As Joe Biden said of Dean, "No goddam chairman’s ever made a difference in the history of the Democratic Party."

I mean, have you been seeing much of Dean lately?

This is a no-brainer.

Actually Toby the red-staters have seen a lot of Dean lately, and that is good for the party.

Dean has been kicking Republican girly-men butts all over the country.
It would be great to have a socialist senator.

He ain't getting any play in my neck of the woods. He's pretty much a cipher so far as I know.
