Cat Killer Frist is toast. These morons, including the Bugman, are handing us a Democratic congress in '06
Posted by roamer at April 26, 2005 12:15 PMOver the weekend I spoke to someone who voted for Bush. Said he would have never voted for him if he thought the GOP would keep both houses of congress. Hope there are lots of people with a similar viewpoint out there.
Also, there was an article in the Financial Times over the weekend (sorry no link, I just saw the meatspace version). Business leaders are calling on the GOP to not eliminate the filibuster. They are worried that this very corporate-friendly congress will end up getting bogged down in this and they will miss out on a golden opportunity to even further advance their agenda.
Posted by Daniel Maskit at April 26, 2005 12:21 PMThey have an agenda and don't really care about what the general public wants. That may be starting to sink in.
On another topic, Rummy and his General were on TV today..the General noted that the "insurgency" was as bad today as it was a year ago. An unusually provocative press jumped all over that statement, forcing an hilarious act of crawfishing from both Rummy and his puppet. If there is a transcript available, it is worth the read to see Rummy in full retreat, foot in mouth.
It's frankly amazing to look back over the last five years and think that this whole "Holy Shit! These People Really ARE Crazy" concept never really got any attention.
Think about it: People like, say, Sullivan--or even Insty--are starting to turn their heads over toward the pillow next to them; they're realizing that maybe they quaffed too deeply from the chalice of power the night before, and that the person lying next to them was stone crazy. And wow! do they have a headache.
There's Conservative, and then there's Right-Wing. I don't approve of either one myself, but it's interesting to watch their adherents learn the difference.
Posted by Matt Davis at April 26, 2005 01:21 PMToo bad that morning after pill is hung up at the FDA!
Posted by at April 26, 2005 01:23 PMNot only will Dog-on-Man Santorum be toast, but Ensign in NV and and Burns of MT will be toast as well. Harry Reid and Gov Schweitzer of MT will personally target them for elimination.
Posted by roamer at April 26, 2005 01:37 PMHAHAHA. Since I live in the heart of Jesusland, Texas, I've had to live under the Talibangelican regime for much longer than most of you and how I've longed for the day their arrogance would get the best of them. Maybe, finally, their day of reckoning has come.
Posted by Joe at April 26, 2005 03:04 PMDaniel, or maybe they are afraid of the day that Congress is not controlled by the Republicans, and Congress is not corporate friendly.
Posted by Judith at April 26, 2005 03:25 PMCongress will always be corporate friendly.
Posted by Matt Davis at April 26, 2005 03:48 PMCongress will always be corporate friendly.
Barring fundamental change to our political and legal system, yes. Campaign finance reform will help, but not as good as overturning the activist supreme court decisions which concluded that A) Political donations are protected free speech and B) Corporations are entitled to free speech.
Weird how the conservatives don't mind judicial activism when it supports their cause.

Joe, as a Texan, too, I feel the same. My suggestion: Do everything we can to get Kay Bailey to run for gov. in 2006 and put forward a strong Dem to take the seat (two or three come to mind). In the meantime, hopefully Cornyn will continue to hang himself with his own rope and who knows? Could the Dems take back Texas by 2008?
Posted by Michelle at April 26, 2005 04:27 PMHarry Reid has set Frist up masterfully. Boy, am I glad that Daschle got beat, he would've already caved and apologized. I can't tell you how many friends I have who voted for Bush who are scared as shit right now because of the GOP Taliban.
Posted by Dick(no, not that one) at April 26, 2005 05:13 PMMichelle, I think the Dems have to nominate a hispanic candidate to have any chance of winning that Senate race. Rafael Anchia would make a superb candidate, but he is serving his first term in the Texas house which makes him an unlikely candidate this soon.
Posted by Joe at April 26, 2005 05:58 PMJoe, please google -Tony Sanchez, Texas Governor- candidate
Posted by T2 at April 26, 2005 06:20 PMNOOOOO T2 not Sanchez. He is not the answer. Big money and not of the people -- and we all know it. Joe, I agree. I'm researching Rafael Anchia now. Too bad the Dems dissed and/or Victor Morales bucked too hard before. I wonder if he is still a possibility. A grassroots non-business Latino/a would be best. I'd suggest my Rep. Jessica Farrar, but I'd hate to lose her.
Posted by Michelle at April 26, 2005 08:07 PMHey Joe, and another possibility, despite her recent votes, but perhaps because of them, what about Sheila? I'm pretty sure there is another Dem here who could pick up and go forward (again, two or three names come to mind).
