emal, interesting how trolls like muckdog are suddenly quiet on something like this, isnt it?
Posted by T at April 27, 2005 12:52 PMHard to defend the indefensible.
Really, we need to take this to the people. And their representatives.
Posted by Duckman GR at April 27, 2005 01:09 PMTalk about an ethics violation! Think Mr. Sensenbrenner might be second in the dock befor the Ethics Committe after Mr. DeLay? Or shall we just let anyone who wants to muck around with legislative language without any penalty? There is probably not any House rule against falsifying amendment language because no one in the past ever entertained the thought that a legislative leader would behave in such a fashion. Well, now we know who will. There will have to be some kind of institutional penalty for this--otherwise, we have no institution called the U.S. House of Representatives any more. The institution is dissolved by the unspeakably horrible acts of its own members in subverting the very purpose it exists for--drafting and passing legislation.
Charles
Followup: if the House had any integrity left, since it passes on the qualifications of its own members, it should expel Mr. Sensenbrenner immediately for undermining the purpose of its existence.
Charles
Seems they aren't satisfied with rewriting just history.
These folks have NOT MORALS OR ETHICS!
Why do they hate America?
Posted by jillian at April 27, 2005 01:51 PMI for one would be more than happy to go bait the trolls, but then again, that would make me a troll, right? On second thought, I'll just refrain.
Oh, how I wish that thinking process would become a habit with them, but alas.
Posted by Michelle at April 27, 2005 02:00 PMGod I want to see one damn troll come here and defend the indefensible. Go ahead, tell us how it's okay to lie and cheat because the "ends justify the means".
Posted by emal at April 27, 2005 02:00 PMHrm... no sign of Muckdog. /sigh
Okay... Paging Mr. Petzold, Mr Toby Petzold please come to a White Paging Comment Board.
Posted by Simp the Biodiesel Pimp at April 27, 2005 02:20 PMAlso calling Roof and Muckdog.
You know, it's getting difficult to read anything these days because each day brings with it a new outrage. Sensenbrenner should be expelled by noon tomorrow.
Posted by Judith at April 27, 2005 02:49 PMexpelled tomorrow? Nah...he should have been out the door today.
Posted by jillian at April 27, 2005 02:57 PMWhat? A Republican exhibiting a lack of integrity? I am shocked, shocked, I tell you!

[Editor: ignore=off]This should not be tolerated. The Dems should give an ultimatum to the Republicans to change the offensive summaries. If they refuse, if the rules permit, the Dems should bring the House to a halt, if it is possible under the House Rules. (Just as Reid is threatening in reaction to the nuclear option.

Insofar as I can understand what this is, it sounds like Republican chickenshit.
Now, as to your own chickenshit, it may be helpful to remember that I am strongly pro-choice and that I don't believe that the father of a 12 year-old girl who has raped and impregnated her should have a veto over whether she gets an abortion.
Not incidentally, I had an interesting exchange with some totalitarian groupies over at Duncan Black's chat room last night about Leftists and their pursuit of ideological purity. It seems that I am somehow obligated to defend everything that any Republican in any legislature does and that, if I don't, I am being inauthentic. Of course, this is nonsense. If you can't have a conscience and a sense of individualism in arguing your beliefs, you are nothing more than a party line stooge.
I would guess that at the level of activism or interest where most people commenting here find themselves, there is a strong inhibition against any kind of meaningful dissent. No one wants to be the turd in the punch bowl at these kinds of klaverns. Which is why I keep coming around: to see whether there's going to be some intellectual honesty.
Posted by Toby Petzold at April 27, 2005 04:22 PMBravo Toby.
Now. Is this you when you're drinkin'? Or not?
;)
Posted by muckcat at April 27, 2005 04:28 PMSo Toby, do you beat your wife and kids as often as you rant about things unrelated to the subject at hand?
Posted by Moo at April 27, 2005 04:40 PMBendito, I'll ask you what I ask my students all the time -- do you talk to your mother with that mouth? Only the one who don't get it say yes.
Posted by Michelle at April 27, 2005 04:43 PMToby's been enjoying my wite and is druck with pleasure. Get off her Toby!!!

Posted by Judith at April 27, 2005 05:36 PMAhh Judith, muck, Toby and the Bendito, are entertaining, if nothing else. You left out bigdog, too. But just think what they inspire! Big dog single-handedly made me think today -- while i was gardening for crying out loud! :)
Luvs the trolls. Otherwise, there is no one to poke fun at err argue with.
Keep the luv coming.
Posted by Donnie at April 27, 2005 05:48 PM"Republican chickenshit"?
No, chickenshit is procedural blather, red tape, triplicate forms; stuff like that.
To the contrary, what Sensenbrenner and his minions did was commit a well-planned LIE and they did it in the name of the original author.
No wiggle room here. But hey, as one of his staffers said, "it doesn't matter, Mr. Sensenbrenner always wins by a large margin." So much for those red state values.
Posted by Jeff Boatright at April 27, 2005 05:55 PMLooks like the staffer is right. He's at 86% in his district. Perhaps a closer look is due. Not suggesting anything untoward, but . . . 86%? in Wisconsin?
Posted by Donnie at April 27, 2005 06:14 PMToby, is at least, a serious human being, unlike muckdog and his ilk. Sersiously wrong, but serious, nonetheless.
Posted by Teaser at April 27, 2005 06:22 PMI emailed Sensenbrenner's office. The gist: My mother was born in Wisconsin and was a life long Republican. That was back before the party had morphed into it's present state of insanity.
I asked the "good" congressman (small c) if he was in DC to do the "people's business" and who did he think he was representing??
Sweet! finally some bait tonight.... chomp CHOMP!
Caling TP out was not soley intended to hear a defense of Sensebrenner's actions. I wanted dialog about it I was simply paging you, as you are the one here that always seems to show up and at least have some sort of dialog. Of course it was also motivated well as wanting to call you out for trying to pick apart my Biodiesel arguments as some sort of fantasy island dream, when it is obvious that you have not even a fucking clue as to what you are talking about.
Intellectual honesty? TP is certainly not the first name that comes to mind when I see the phrase.
BTW it seems that those on the right are causing a lot more problems in their chase for ideological purity than anyone on the left.
Posted by Simp the Biodiesel Pimp at April 27, 2005 07:01 PMThis isn't about effing party purity , this is about effing lying. Oh yeah, I forgot, lying is a part of the republicon party moral values Christian outreach platform....never mind.
Posted by emal at April 28, 2005 02:33 AMThis is beyond the pale. We have now officially entered into the realm of the surreal. Does anyone in the Democratic Party have the balls finally say enough's enough? It time to publicly call for the removal of the evil empire, starting with monkeyboy and on down the line. Shut down the Congress, call for impeachment. The Dem's may be the minority party, but they still have enough power using proceedural means to force the issue. '06 may be to late.

It's interesting you should mention that because I have no fucking clue what you're talking about. Did I actually discuss biodiesel technology with someone? I can't imagine! Can you tell me when this conversation happened? It couldn't have been a very interesting exchange because I know nothing about the topic. But thanks.
