Comments: Are Hastert And DeLay Parting Ways Over Social Security?

Based on certain results from the poll, it would seem that Social Security is still in a dangerous place:

81% SS needs serious adjustment. (not true)
45% changes needed within a year or two.
36% changes needed within ten years.

27% support Republican "plan."
22% support Democrat plan.

Even if people are rejecting Bush's "plan," they have still fallen prey to his lyin' about the "crisis" and a plurality think that something must be done basically immediately. They're dead wrong, of course, but Democrats need to be united in their support of Social Security and they need to demonize those who would try to kill the greatest social program we've had.

Maybe one of them can go out and preside over the 21st century monkey trials taking place out in Kansas.

over on Kos, a new Houston Chronicle poll shows that perhaps DeLay isn't so secure in his district these days. Sooner than later, he will have to turn his attention to keeping his job. If his fellow House buddies sense he's headed for dumpsville, the fun will begin.

House Republicans over the cliff......I'll believe it when I see it. Trust me, the electorate that failed so decisively and miserably in 2004 isn't going to start operating rationally in 2006----their brains have been de-natured and toxified and no cure has been developed---in fact, media issues appear to be getting worse! This nightmare is going to last a long, long time and will require an economic catastrophe before Gotterdammerung descends.

I really, really, really wish I could believe this would be the end for the wingnuts. I really, really do. But I have to concur with euzoius. There were so very many utterly obvious reasons to vote against BushCo in 2004, and we all know what happened. I'll believe good sense when I see a Democratic majority in Congress, and can't really feel confident until then.
