Comments: Public Rejects Progressive Indexing Of Social Security Benefits - Trusts Democrats More

Polls have consistently shown that the only fix for Social Security that voters support is raising the withholding ceiling.

Of course, everybody wants the solution to include participation by folks other than themselves. That's just human nature.

"Would you like to pay for your meal, or have that guy over there pay for your meal?"

Of course, that guy is already paying for the meals of half the folks in the restaurant. He may just pack it up and leave the restaurant altogether.

The ceiling is already indexed. It goes up every year as it is. But I think if it's removed altogether, there would be some pretty dramatic economic consequences (job losses).

Of course, everybody wants the solution to include participation by folks other than themselves. That's just human nature.

$1 trillion in corporate welfare this year alone.

China and Japan hold the majority of our foreign debt, and collect the major portion of the $437 billion that goes to pay the interest on the debt.

So you seem to be correct.

Of course, that guy is already paying for the meals of half the folks in the restaurant. He may just pack it up and leave the restaurant altogether.

Afghanistan has a wide-open business environment. No need to worry about public goods like roads and hospitals and feeding the poor. Maybe "that guy" can invest some money with the local warlord? Maybe "that guy" will pay some of the taxes he owes on the funds he has hidden offshore? It would be fitting for him to leave, because "that guy" is the problem, not a solution. At 17% taxes "that guy" is raping the rest of us. So, good riddance to "that guy," don't let the door hit him in the ass.

The ceiling is already indexed. It goes up every year as it is. But I think if it's removed altogether, there would be some pretty dramatic economic consequences (job losses).

So if there is no problem you guys, and "that guy," should stop lieing about it and leave it alone.

I find it fascinating how the evangelical capitalists so fervently declare their love for America, but could really give a crap about the people who are America. Who truely believe that the personal wealth that they are able to syphon off the commonwealth, that is America, is thiers, all thiers, and how they resent any obligation to the system. "I've got mine, screw the rest-a-yas." Then hide behind some political rhetoric about "compassionate conservative", when in reallty (for those who live in the reality based world), it's simply unbridalled greed.

Gees, muck you are such a bot. You only harp on those old standard lines. And each time someone catches you, you just morph into the next bot and the next same old lines.

Muck, what you don't understand is the concept of SS. Or you do understand and you just rail against it because you have been brainwashed.

It is a system for everyone. If you suddenly lose everything and can no longer contribute to the system . . . it is there for you. Please don't tell me that you live like a teenager and think that nothing bad will happen to you.

If something bad happens to your (eventual) kids and they can't contribute, guess what? They benefit. If your (eventual) spouse gets disabled by, let's say a bus, then your (eventual) kids will benefit.

But muck, what is it you really fear? Loss of control? Loss of money? Loss of face? What drives you here, day after day, except the fact that you are looking, like a lost soul, for that sanctuary you can call home. You are lost muck. Seek Jeeeezzzus and He will set you free . . . damn wrong post. . . sorry muck, you're not into the holy stuff are ya? just teh numbers ma'am.

Lift the ceiling altogether and exempt the first 10k. All will be well.

Trust in Jesus, muck

I just signed my contract for next year: $105K, but I won't pay FICA on all of it, which means a) that I won't be paying my fair share into the insurance pool and b) that, when I retire, I won't get as much SS as I would have gotten had I paid my fair share.

Just call it the social security flat tax and completely lift the ceiling. If Democrats can't sell that, they can't sell anything.

I think bendover has been hanging at the neverland ranch for republicons and hasn't quite figured things out yet.

You know, I have a feeling that Repug spin and fury is going to have a hard time changing these numbers with their ordinary smear-job PR shtick. To many people know exactly how SS works and how it benefits them (esp. the elderly). And there is no one to effectively smear. You could convince every person in America that Dems are gay gun-hating pedophiles, and that doesn't mean that SS is a bad idea that needs fundemental changing.

Oh, and Muck, don't be such a tool.

I must disagree with the premis that americans rejected the idea of sacrificing their benefits for increased benifits for the poor. This is how the Bushbag Admin likes to frame it. People are rejecting this attempt to pit the poor against the low and middle income americans. If you remember he first went after the 55+year old group, than he tried to entice the 18+year old newbie workers, than he went after the Black soon to die group. Now he wants to pit the poor against all the rest.
It may be unconcious on their part but I think Americans can sense a scam when they see one. The one thing about SS is how it treats all of us equally. It binds us together and we really like that, we really do.

Gee, Ed Beckmann - your post almost sounds like

First they came for the 55+, but
Then they came for the 18 years olds, but
Then they came for the blacks, but
Then they came for the poor, but

Fortunately, this is one item we're not keeping quiet about.

Good on us!

Thatr should be the Democrat's plan. Raise the cap. All the way or part of the way or whatever. When the GOP puts forth a plan, Dems should put this one forth, but not until then.

Well, as I've said before, just don't do anything. Lets see how social security does. You say we don't have to do anything and that there is no crisis, so lets not do anything.

Let 'er rip.

Michelle,

Maybe if you get time you should actually read the SSA. It clearly states that it is a SUPPLIMENTAL. If you need help, you can look that word up too.
