Pretty compelling. On the other hand this reads like just another "I'm so smart" post from a pundit. The left and the right are equally guilty of this: pontificating but never actually getting their shoulders into anything.
Where's the action to go with the talk? Where's the communal, blogospheric blast at Congress? Where's the point of focus? Where's the letter-writing campaign? The grassroots funding of a single highly-charged commercial designed to drive a public relations knife into the GOP neck?
You're right: Bush is corrupt and guilty of selling out his own country, and the troops in the field. So what the fuck are you going to DO about it? Just keep talking???

Posted by emal at May 17, 2005 04:20 AMI'm all for bashing Bush every chance I get (seems to be lots of chances these days) but this had to be known by Clinton people too. This was ignored or overlooked by the American government including senate & congress. Hopefully, one of these days the investigation will name american names (already nailed an oil company in Texas)and with that we'll know exactly who sold us out.
Posted by bill at May 17, 2005 04:24 AMRegardless of whether Clinton knew about it or not, bill, the point is that there is ample evidence to implicate Bush. It seems whenever something negative comes up about Bush or any of his administration, someone say, "But Clinton..." And that's just not the point and it's certainly not a valid rebuttal.

[Editor: ignore=off]He is guilty. Most Americans have had enough of the self serving lies, the lack of accountability, and the pill popping echo chamber.
As the administration continues to stumble from overreach to overreach they show the world how WEAK they have become. They must bend over farther and farther to their own backers to keep their fingernail hold on the disaster they worked so hard to create.
Bush must go.
Posted by patience at May 17, 2005 05:43 AMAnd why is Bush not guilty of treason?
He is GUILTY!
Wasn't there an oath to be honored in upholding the Constitution of the United States. On this day of 'Constitutional Crisis', 'Nuclear Option', repeated violations, and widespread corruption can someone please tell me when the impeachment proceedings will begin?
Posted by Sandra at May 17, 2005 05:43 AMBill, the difference is that Bush called him a terrorist and was actively planning to send our troops into harm's way to topple him at the same time he was allowing Saddam to profit from illicit activities, with our help.
If Bush had cut this off in January 2001, or even September 12, 2001, his behavior here would be all the more supportable. But he let it go on and even used our Navy to make it happen weeks before sending troops into battle against a man who could take those profits and use them against our troops. This happened after he was called a member of the Axis of Evil and certified by Bush as being a terrorist in PL 107-243.
And Bendito, as usual, you are irrelevant.
Posted by Steve Soto at May 17, 2005 06:25 AMOh, now I get it. If there is a chance that your criminal activity will be uncovered, you must discredit the source immediately and early in the game. Now I understand one of the reasons for the UN bashing.
Posted by Judith at May 17, 2005 06:27 AMyou must discredit the source immediately
exactly. look for the paul-volcker-as-leftist-appeaser meme to pop up any moment now. take it away, bendito!
speaking of which (character assassination, that is), i don't see the galloway hearing on the cspan schedule. is it being held today?
Posted by benjoya at May 17, 2005 06:34 AMOnce Bolton get to the UN, he can scrub clean any records.
Posted by Judith at May 17, 2005 06:38 AMoops, BBC radio just said the galloway hearing was starting; guess they're trying to keep this one hush-hush.
Posted by benjoya at May 17, 2005 06:44 AMI think the White House is using this 'Newsweek' flap to cover up a couple stories, e.g., Bolton, the food for oil one, Bush's fixing of intelligence to advance war and the problems in Iraq, and that they are using the press to accomplish this cover up all of which is much in line with what they are doing with Moyers and the CPB. What kind of a nation will it be if the close off reporting they don't like, i.e., the party line?
Does Terrance Hunt of AP know he's being sorely used?

Ken, for all intent and purposes the reporting is closed. Now, if they could just silence those of us on the Internet, the circle would be complete.

Posted by Judith at May 17, 2005 07:25 AMLest we forget: The idiot son of George Bush was trading oil with the enemy (Saddam) during the first Gulf War. Fits my definition of treason just fine.
I just love the oil for food scandal. What always goes unreported is the the United States and France had to sign off on every deal before it could be done. Follow the money trail. It comes home.
