Pozen said that Bush should abandon the push for private accounts as they are unnecessary to address the system's solvency shortfalls.
[in my best SNL Church Lady voice]
Well, Stevie, what possibly could be necessary to address the Social Security solvency shortfalls. Hmm, lets see, what could it be, I wonder. Could it be... TAX HIKES?
Posted by muckdog at May 19, 2005 03:53 PMWell Muck, your taxes have been raised 27% by W. and you seem to have no problem with that.
BTW, why aren't you enlisting in the army? Your hero desperately needs your service. /slaps head/ Oh, that's right, you only want to sit around and collect your checks from W. but can't are scared to do anything else.
Posted by ga6thdem at May 19, 2005 04:17 PMJohn Kerry doesn't need a private SS account. Theresa's got plenty of dough. Ted Kennedy's bootlegger grandfather set him up with millions in trust. Hillary has loads of ill-gotten cattle-future profit socked away. None of these folks needs a private account.
You know who does? The $10 an hour Wal-mart guy, or the factory worker, or the bus driver. If you look at the projections over a lifetime of work, given just average returns in an equity fund, the difference between S.S. and a private nest egg is astounding. It's the difference between being poor, and being comfortable. And you could pass it to your kids, like the Kennedys do.
But the elitist Dems stand in the way of reforms that would make people more prosperous, self-reliant, and financially secure. They sneer, "Why, those silly little rubes can't be trusted to invest their own money."
And the same lefties who shriek about Enron think it is just fine that the government runs a Ponzi scheme that would land any stockbroker in jail.
Posted by Gerry at May 19, 2005 06:31 PMPass it on to your kids, lol! Gerry you don't know about the clawback clause where the gov. takes up to 80% of your account! W. is just proposing another way for him to steal your money and line the pockets of his friends.
Would you let a person who lost 9 billion dollars in Iraq handle your money! Wow, remind me never to use a daycare center run by a Republican-they would put a pedophile in charge.
Posted by ga6thdem at May 19, 2005 06:51 PMLets call it: Bush went the Pozen route because his Administration had NO PLAN to do anything but gut SS, that was a big poll loser, so he grabbed at Pozen and threw that plan out at His Press conference. Pozen says "uh, no". The American Public is solidly against Bush on SS, his "plan" is a dead duck and the author of his stolen plan just sent him a ticket to Dumpsville. I hope Pozen sends Mucktroll a ticket also... coach.
Posted by T2 at May 19, 2005 07:04 PMUh, as much as I'd like to believe it is dead....I'm gonna need to see a body first, with a stake thru its heart.
Rethugs have no qualms going way against popular opinion with the filibuster thing, what makes you sure they won't just go ahead with this steaming turd private accounts idea too?
Keep your eye on your wallet.....it ain't safe yet not to.
Posted by The Spoiler at May 19, 2005 07:28 PMGerry,
You can't trust the Republicans with your money!
Posted by argus at May 19, 2005 07:54 PMWow, remind me never to use a daycare center run by a Republican-they would put a pedophile in charge.
Oh please. Pedophiles have a 2% recidivism rate, republi-con thieves have 100% recidivism rates. In my opinion no self-respecting pedophile would ever work for a republi-con. There is scum, and then there is SCUM.
I'm sure the illegit preznit will ignore it like he does most other stuff he doesn't like and continue to push his one-note theme of "personal" accounts. :-p
Posted by Annie C at May 20, 2005 01:51 AMBush's plan for privatization is just a way to take money out of the SS system- the whole starve the monster thing.
I know it sounds bad to say, but if you ever look at what people really do with money, you'll find most have a comfort level as to relative financial worth that for whatever reasons they adjust to stay at. For this reaon, most lottery winners are broke in a couple years when given the money as a lump sum.
So, to think the majority of $10 Wal-Mart workers will not find a way to blow that privatization money (and pass it on) if they EVER get their hands on it is pretty naive. Imagine for a second a worker being handed $600,000 after a lifetime of unskilled jobs.
Posted by Cosrai at May 20, 2005 08:47 AMI read Bush was on day 78 of his 60 day tour to convince the American people there's a problem with SS. As a child he must have dragged his old dog around long after it died, while ignoring the new puppy's crying. He's such an ass.
Posted by Sharon at May 21, 2005 08:51 AMAnd the MSM isn't even covering this anymore...to see his last speech on this you had to go to c-span, and the worst part if it was, he was making fun of the fact the only place it could be seen was c-span...talk about lame ducks.
