Don't call them moderates! That MSM meme doesn't do us any good. The extremists are all on the Republican side. I wouldn't call Leiberman a moderate and I wouldn't compare Reid to Frist. Reid isn't a captive of extremists as Frist is.
Soto:
The poll also showed that the public sides with the Democrats more than the GOP in the filibuster matter.
Right. Because most Americans know just how awful Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown are.
Shit, I'll bet most Americans couldn't tell you who the Speaker of the House is.
Posted by Toby Petzold at May 23, 2005 04:59 PMthis is an awful deal. We have lost the ability to filibuster for 5 of 7 judges. I bet The Owen, and Brown are going to get a pass :=(
Posted by mje at May 23, 2005 05:03 PMExtraordinary circumstances is now by definition someone worse than Priscilla Owen. I'm going to be sick. The Democrats got nothing out of this, I repeat nothing. The FOX folks are gloating already.
Posted by Ron In Portland at May 23, 2005 05:07 PMShit, I'll bet most Americans couldn't tell you who the Speaker of the House is.
Hell, I bet some significant number of Americans couldn't name even one of their senators. Or their own representative. Come to think of it, other than Californians how many people know who their governor is?
Kinda makes you wonder what terms like 'democracy' or 'majority' or 'elected' mean in America today, doesn't it?
Posted by Daniel Maskit at May 23, 2005 05:10 PMOne more nail in the coffin. Someone get the funeral dirge ready. What once was America is now a single party state, comrades.
Republi-cons can wheel-out the "nuke-you-lee-er" option from here on out. The Democrats have effectively sealed our respective fates, even the neo-cons who like this were protected from themselves. No longer. They too will get eaten by the new dragon.
Posted by phidipides at May 23, 2005 05:26 PM"Moderates" my ass. Fucking cowards is much more accurate a term for those weasels.
Gawd I'm glad I don't have children.
Posted by Ivor the Engine Driver at May 23, 2005 05:49 PMThe Republicans didn't promise anything except to not set off the nuclear option this time. Bush can decide to push it at anytime whenever the Democrats start to filibuster. So I look at it like a cave. The Charley Brown moderate Senators get conned again and we, the American public, get Owen and Brown without a fight. This is not a compromise, this is a capitulation.
Posted by Mary at May 23, 2005 06:06 PMThank you Mary, nail, hammer head....fighting for their principles, my arse.
Did I mention how I hate people not standing up for their principles, even if they are sure to lose.
Polls, schmolls. We remember the bogus exit polling last November that was a bald attempt to influence the outcome in Kerry's favor. Bush has an agenda and isnt running for reelection. All he has to do is give those who are some cover.
Posted by MarcusAgrippa at May 23, 2005 07:38 PMWhat sense does it make to appoint a judge who hates all government regulation to the DC Court of Appeals? We are one step closer to the courts approving Social Darwinism once again. The 1890s return!!
Posted by Ben at May 23, 2005 08:47 PMIsnt this a mixed historical metaphor?
Social Darwinism was considered "progressive" at the time of its vogue.
