Dear paradox . . .
This is a post beyond posts!!!!
We as a nation are not merely patriots or plots of land; we are living breathing people. We love, we learn, we contribute to the greatness of life, the life of others as well as our own. In war, we destroy what is our country.
A time ago, I wrote a similar thought. I hope that you will enjoy it. It is part of a longer piece titled, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, TENTATIVELY! ©
ODE TO THE TROOPS THAT WE LOVE, HONOR, AND SUPPORT ©
How do we love you?
Let me count the ways.
We give you “life,†love, liberty, and help you to learn.
We tell you of love, of our love for you.
We show our love, showering you with all that we are able.
We speak of loving all, equally.
We teach you to love your neighbor, love your country, and to never covet.
We edify honor, a reverence for life.
Then we train you to eradicate, eliminate, and to execute the enemy, our enemy, and those we say are yours.
If you are hurt, we do not honor you sufficiently.
We do not speak of your wounds.
We do not adequately treat your injuries.
Possibly, we will not even count you as a casualty.
After all, you and your hurts are only “collateral damage.â€Â
We will not reward you well for your services.
We may not grant you leave.
We might not effectively provide for your survivors.
However, we support you, for you are our troops.
You deliver our triumph and we commend you,
At least through our words.
Our deeds? These may be our undoing.
Therefore, we do these in the dark.
What has bothered me the most since the stupid war started is that nobody and I do mean nobody from John Kerry to Pelosi have the courage to call Bush a liar.
Now, we have the memo from UK, and still nobody has stepped up to do the right thing.
It is time to grab the microphone on Senate floor and call Bush a liar.
We have plenty of materials to back that up. Replay Bush's lying piece in front of his ranch when he said he had not formulated an attack plan nor did he knew when and if an invasion is warranted. It was a lie and still a lie today.
Well, our comrade citizens have a fascination for Rambos and shoot them up movies and it is engraved in our minds.
Call Bush a liar pls someone.
Posted by john at June 7, 2005 10:18 AMJohn: Reid calls Bush a liar.
Posted by Muggot at June 7, 2005 10:20 AMI'm printing her picture to put on the sign I carry on Thursday when our Tampa group protests about the Downing Street Memo.
Posted by Susan S at June 7, 2005 10:23 AMI'm speechless.
RIH GWB.
Here's another one for you, a death from Sunday.
Even though "he didn’t actually believe in the war he was fighting," Scotty Ulbrich was determined to do his job, his mother said.
"He believed in fighting for our country," she said. "He was the total patriot."
Beautiful post, paradox. Sad, infuriating.
Posted by Sharkbabe at June 7, 2005 11:02 AMMakes a grown man want to cry.
Posted by patriot at June 7, 2005 11:04 AMIf we cannot accurately assess threats...we will not exist in 50 years.
I think we'll exist; it'll be like England, though; a has-been empire.
Posted by Matt Davis at June 7, 2005 11:23 AMMuggot: I mean someone needs to do it when they are on TVs, talk shows , Senate floor and everywhere thye have a chance.
I am sure Reid has plenty of chances of meeting Bush face to face, call him a liar face to face. and Cheney too. After he did that, tell the press whores he did it.
Posted by john at June 7, 2005 11:30 AMHorrible isn't it... These fine young Americans have to die for Bu$h's folly: oil greed, dreams of empire, and personal vendetta against Saddam. What a waste.
Posted by Tibor at June 7, 2005 11:36 AMMeanwhile the Bush twins sit here stateside partying their asses off...it's so infuriating. GD them, GD them to hell.
Posted by roamer at June 7, 2005 12:19 PMWhen you call Bush a liar because he lied about the reason to go to war with Iraq (WMDs) the response is always "That wasn't the whole reason. There were other stated reasons for going to war." Frankly, that's neither here nor there. If any of his reasons for going to war were lies, then he is a liar. He said there were WMDs. He said Sadaam tried to by uranium. He said Sadaam had ties to al Queda. He lied, he lied, he lied. And he continues to lie. Giving freedom to the people of Iraq is not the justification he gave the American public for waging war. If it had been, no one would have been in favor of this war.
Parents are discouraging their children from joining the armed forces because they don't want them to die in an unecessary war. So, not only are all of our troops tied up in Iraq for an unknown period of time, we don't have enough new kids signing up to protect us. How's that for Homeland Security?
Posted by ann at June 7, 2005 01:25 PMHeartbreaking, beautiful post.
When are the Bush twins going over to serve their country?
Posted by jillian at June 7, 2005 01:52 PMBelieve it or not our own government is tracking the lies of shrub and cheney, rummy, powell and rice.

Posted by patriot at June 7, 2005 02:14 PMYou guys check with Carrie L. French before you used her name, life and death for your political movement?
Posted by jay at June 7, 2005 05:43 PMDid George Bush ask if it was okay to send Carrie to war for lies? Call up her parents and say hey, I'm going to lie about why your daughter might die or be maimed?
Clueless bastard. One of our children dies for nothing, a horrible brutal death in a place she never belonged, was not needed and is hated for being there--killed for it--yet it's always hail to George Bush, all must be lied about for George.
Sick freak.
Posted by paradox at June 7, 2005 05:58 PMGeorge didn't call her mother and you shouldn't assume that she was your child. Don't you have some weed to smoke or some acid to eat?
Posted by jay at June 7, 2005 06:19 PMMy powers of observation remain sharp. After reading his first posting, in my cognitive processes, I speculated that jay was assuming and simplistic.
His second posting confirmed my early analysis.
Observation, cognitive process, speculate , simplistic and confirmed analysis. Congratulations, you squeezed it all in. You sound like a fat lady with a dirty kitchen.
Posted by Jay at June 7, 2005 06:41 PMWow. The programmer who wrote "jay" really did a half-assed job.

Posted by argus at June 7, 2005 09:14 PMYou guys check with Carrie L. French before you used her name, life and death for your political movement?
I would guess it was cleared with the same people who approved lying about Pat Tillman's death and the 'rescue of Jessica Lynch.'
Posted by Daniel Maskit at June 7, 2005 09:19 PMParadox, thanks for daring to bring to the forefront the beautiful fresh face of Carrie French.
Perhaps because I have two beautiful fresh-faced daughters, I can’t help but cry every time I look at Carrie and think about the cruel reality that many other beautiful fresh souls are facing every day. God Almighty, and to think that it, all of it, is due to lies…
My heart goes to the French family (and all other families, American, Iraqi and the rest) whom undoubtedly, are suffering so much, while I wonder if those guilty of causing such suffering are able to sleep in peace at night.
Quidlam,
While one can never speak for another, I sadly must conclude from their actions that those responsable for the story of nearly 1700 Carries and counting don't give a damn and have no trouble sleeping.
Posted by argus at June 8, 2005 08:06 AMI think it's high time we started knocking on the door of every republican in this country and handing them a US Army recruitment packet.
Then we ask them...."so, when are you shipping out?"
We post their names around town along with lists of their departure dates.
That way we'll know which republicans are actually willing to fight for their cause...the ones who actually deserve a shred of respect from us.
But this experiment will only show everyone what we already know: the republicans and libertarians who supported this war are cowards.
I think it's time we started posting "The List".
Think about this commercial:
Photos scroll by..slowly at first, but advancing in speed - soldiers who've been killed in Iraq & Afghanistan. Nothing but pictures scrolling by - no text but the soldier's names, no music, no voiceover. Stark. As each picture scrolls by, a counter in the upper left ticks up by one. The last pic is just an empty silhouette, a question mark, something...
At the end, in white courier type-writer style font on a black screen, the words: "Who will your lies kill next, Mr. President?" and then a link to an easily remembered link (www.readthememo.com or something) toward a site describing the contents of the Downing Street memo.
We HAVE to get more people to acknowledge Bush's lies.
Posted by The Anonymous Patriot at June 8, 2005 09:59 AMOne has to get out of bed and go to work to pay for a commercial. So just picture it in your head.
Posted by jay at June 8, 2005 06:42 PMIt is entertaining how jay pictures the left only in terms of outdated sterotypes. I wish all right wingers underestimated us that much.
Posted by sage at June 9, 2005 07:45 AMI get so mad over this damned war. My son graduated from high school two weeks ago. The damned recruiters have been calling nonstop for months. You'd think they would get tired of being yelled at, but they don't.
My son's best friend will be going to boot camp next week. It makes me so mad I can hardly stand it. But, he's not my kid and I don't get to decide for him.
I threw my brother out of my house for encouraging my son to join up. He did not like Iraq when he was there. I think it is worse this time. My son is going to play baseball in college. Nobody better mess with that.
I respect the military. Every man in my family going back at least three generations has been in either the Army or Navy. My father and three uncles were in WWII, I had two brothers in Vietnam and two in Desert Storm. But this is different. This is wrong. They cannot have my son for this lie.
Posted by apishapa at June 9, 2005 03:45 PMWhat upsets me about this whole situations is the fact that our troops are living through pure hell right now. I knew Brian S. Ulbrich personally..he was very close to my family. My older brothers best friend, and my older sister was with him for about 4 to 5 years. He was one person that can never be replaced, one of a kind. He emailed me some pictures a week before he passed away and called two days before to talk to my brother. He emailed his mother telling her how they live in pure filth!! They shower in brown, nasty water. He used a bottle of water to brush his teeth...and he slept in a bed that had a hole in it. He fixed that problem though himself with the help of a roomate!! I personally think that some of this money that is going to Iraq to rebuild it...should be going to the troops. They are fighting for OUR country - they deserve the best supplies they can get.
Miss You, Scotty!!
Posted by TMR at June 10, 2005 05:38 AMThere is more than one outrage here with the death of this 19 year old soldier. We have the lies about the run-up to the war. We have all the lies about the failure to support the troops by this administration.
And we have the lies from the retard fundies like Fred Phelps at hatethefags.com, who will demonstrating at this young ladies funeral. I can't imagine how her parents will be able to handle the outrage.
I love my country,I respect my president and I will not live in fear..
GOD BLESS THIS NATION AND OUR PRESIDENT
Posted by mike...volunteer medic at June 16, 2005 06:29 PMI would just like to say thank you to those who support my sister (carrie) and un nice things to you others. Carrie was a beautiful person inside and out and we all miss her dearly
Posted by Sara Gillman at June 19, 2005 11:33 PMCarrie needs to be honored and remembered you left wing assholes! You'd bitch if you got hung with a new rope! Freedom will prevail, then we will round up all you naysayers and put you on an island with bin laden and hussein..we'll see what you think of respecting your freedom you take for granted then. bush haters and liberals are all whiny bitches who dont DESERVE to live in this great country. Fuck you! Semper Fi!
such pussies, pansies, and posers I see out there...it's all the more important there are people who are not like you to make things right..again, left wing commies, FUCK YOU! FUCK OFF AND DIE!
