I'll bet some spineless Dems were in on this. Probably the ones who attacked Dean in the past few days. I hate them so much I feel like a real liberal.
Posted by Max at June 10, 2005 07:17 PMWe're thinking of wearing gags (to highlight this latest atrocity) at our Downing Street Memo protest this coming Thursday.
By the way, just heard that the Progressive Dems are protesting the DSM in Lafayette Park in DC on the 16th. Keep it up everybody!

[Editor: ignore=off]Just doing his job. Free speech and democracy doesn't preclude riding herd on a systemized rabble.
What job is that? The one where he wipes his ass with the Constitution?
Posted by phidipides at June 10, 2005 09:35 PMWho died and put that fat asshole in charge, asshole? Sorry, fat asshole sensenbrenner in charge, asshole benito?
Riding herd? Riding herd? Fuck you bendotto. That's not his job. Masybe that other fat asshole hastert should have ridden herd on the house when they had that 3 hour 15 minute vote session so delay could bribe and threaten enough congressmen to get that useless big pharma drug bill passed, huh, asshole?
Don't impugn my integrity. Sound familiar?
Posted by Duckman GR at June 10, 2005 10:03 PMSome prime digs and sarcasm at non-Sense-nbrenner during the hearing by the Dems:
Conyers: I want to thank you for complying with the rules. But, I mean, we can do this in a friendly tone or a hostile tone... I think that this tells the story to everybody what the real environment is like here.
Mel Watt: Let me thank the chair for convening the hearing even though he's doing it according to the rules, and he started out kinda testy. (looks at nonSense) And also thank the chairman for not interrupting the witnesses and applying an overly technical view of this hearing.
Jerrold Nadler: Let me express my appreciation for your civility to the witnesses.
Sheila Jackson Lee: I will yield to my two colleagues because of the disorientation of the chairman.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz: As the senator from Arizona (Trent Franks) stated, sometimes the world does see our vision of democracy, warts and all... this proceeding would be one version of that democracy.

Posted by Chevy at June 11, 2005 02:30 AMBesides feeling that more than “an apology” is needed, I’ve read BradLog in re to the subject discussed here and bewilderment is the only word that comes to mind. Yeah, this type stuff (favorite modus operandi of dictators and despots—shutting the hell out of anyone who dares say something they don’t want to hear or know about) should we scary as hell for everyone.
BTW Max, it has nothing to do with Mr. Dean. But, while in the subject, if those in the position to do something about such travesty of justice were to speak against it (and, hopefully, this time around with the strong words that it deserves—lets get Dean there ASAP!), I’m firmly convinced that the best approach would be for them to name the culprits rather than to dilute their message by making broad statements (which, at times, is what can happen when one fails to simply mention the real culprit {s}). No ambiguity, no room for speculation, no blanket statements that could cloud the shitty issue and its potential for far reaching nasty consequences for all concerned.
This country, just like any other country, needs to find ways to be united when the going gets tough which, clearly, must include republicans. Yes, not only hardworking people most of them but also, I’m sure, as patriotic and as concerned for their country as anyone else when the issues at stake are as serious as this one is.
Constitutions and what they mean for the people (all the people of any given country) are much too important to play frivolous games with them—and I ought to know. The one of the country where I was born was kept hostage by a fascist dictator for close to forty years.
So, the only thing I feel I can add is that I hope with all my being all Americans are ready to accept that the time has come to put all political differences aside because some instances demand it. Indeed, and in dire moments such as the present instead of bickering about this or that issue what matters above anything else is that there’s an urgent need to unite in order to be ready to do the outmost: fight like titans to keep all portions of the American Constitution at arms way from those who dare to threaten them.
If you can Max, and for your peace of mind if nothing else, I hope you can get over your professed hate.
As always, Paz
Taking a page out of Tex Tampon fortune heir Senselessbrenner's book, I doubt those comments by Chevy and Bendito are relevant here in dissent. YOu see both of them are in agreement and support stopping freedom of speech and dissenting opinions as demonstrated by the fat idiot today. Shut them down! Stop their commenting privledges or delete their comments on the record as they obvioulsy don't mind that type of action. They hate freedom of speech and democracy in action. Their dissenting opinions on this board are NOT patriotic...get rid of them.
Posted by emal at June 11, 2005 05:57 AMEmal,
I don't see a problem with crackpot opinions from a couple of people who clearly can't stand America. Comments like theirs are revealing of who they are and what they represent. Let other readers see how these people have a contempt for democracy, liberty and everything else America stands for.
Indeed, their comments make them appear like they would be ideal lawyers for Saddam "screw free speech and stomp out dissenters" Hussein.

And that tells us all we need to know about Chevy. I'm not sure, however, if he's talking about people who care about human rights, or Democrats, or both. I assume, however, that he would like to stomp all of them out figuratively *and* literally, just like a good proto-fascist would.

Absolutely. That's why we're stoping you assholes as fast as we can. Please help by driving with your eyes closed. You're blind to the rest of the shit going on around you. Why not make it 100%?
Posted by phidipides at June 11, 2005 08:23 AMI sent this to tex:
I learned about your abrupt adjournment of a congressional hearing on the USAPATRIOT Act. As a tax-paying Citizen of this country, I wanted and expected to hear the testimony of the witnesses that your committee had called. As a servant of the people, you failed your duty and obligation to allow me to hear these witnesses.
Such failure demands action on your part. I believe that to restore the taxpayers' trust in your dedication to this country and it's principles, you must apologize, in writing to both the witnesses and the other congressmen that were present. You also must immediately reschedule the hearing that was adjourned for the next week.
eriposte, I was trying to be sarcastic a bit, pointing out the hypocrisy of their "dissenting opinions" being allowed here, even though the opinions they voiced here in support of Tex Senslessbrenner actions were advocating for "dissenting opinions" and free speech to be stifled. I have a feeling something like my subtle attempt to point that out goes way over their head though. They don't understand the meaning of hypocrisy or irony.
Posted by emal at June 11, 2005 10:54 AMSensenbrenner -- heir to the tradition of that most famous WI politico, Joe McCarthy. Instead of commie hunter, we have terrist hunter. Only wonder when the DC DEMs are going to wake up and stop being polite to the GOP that shut them down ten years ago? Or have they all forgotten how Newt changed all the rules ten years ago.
