See he we had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2005 election. And the British people listened to different assessments made about what was taking place in Iraq, and they looked at the two candidates, and chose Blair.
Posted by Flamethrower at June 29, 2005 01:05 PMBig Surprise...what choice does he have?
I mean did you really think Blair would disavow his relationship with the Bush cabal chickenhawks and come clean about the pre-war planning and discussions?
Blair is going to stick with the Big Lie till hell freezes over because that's all he's got.
Just like his buddy W.
W is for War Crimnal.
To be fair, British voters weren't presented with much of a choice. Either choose the leading oppostion party, the Conservatives, who just happened to make several of the problems you as a country are beginning to deal with, or choose Labour and unfortunately Tony Blair. The Liberal Democrats haven't convinced everyone that they'll be a responsibile government yet, and the other parties are purely regional at this time.
The British voters chose Labour almost solely on domestic issues. Failure to understand that completely robs an argument of any rationality.
If Tony goes down because of Iraq - and it could happen - Gordon Blair could replace him without much of a hitch as far the voters and the Labour government are concerned. Changing their Chief Executive is much less of a hubbabaloo than changing our own.
Posted by idiosynchronic at June 29, 2005 01:45 PMBush and Blair will go down in history as history's biggest liars.
Posted by James at June 29, 2005 02:06 PMConsidering Blair is about to call up 600 reservists for duty in Iraq, can his removal by the Labor Party be far off? [Here and here]
Posted by pessimist at June 29, 2005 02:11 PMWhat I want to see is Blair and Bush facing war crimes at the Hague, along with a few others. Downing Street Memo isn't going away guys, no matter how much you deny it's contents.
Posted by Judith at June 29, 2005 03:49 PMBoth Blair and Young Bush will soon be working with Old Bush, Frank Carlucci, James Baker and John Major with the Carlyle Group. The money is waiting for them after they have influenced the policies that make the business hum.
Blair knows where his retirement funds await.
Posted by marvin at June 29, 2005 04:00 PMGuess who got pointers in DC from Bush/Rove on how to revise history. Silly Blair, he probably thought that he couldn't disavow the contents of a written and legitimate document.
Posted by Marie at June 29, 2005 05:21 PMsee, Blair is in the same fix as Bush. They lied, they knew they were lying and now they've been caught. The only option is to continue to lie. What else can they do. The problem Blair has is that unlike his American counterpart, he can be thrown out on his ear before his term is up........Wait...so can George (impeachment). I wonder, when the 06 elections come along and the GOP is looking at 2500 dead GI's in Iraq, a continued quagmire, Halliburton and Duke Cunningham's houseboy getting no-bid contracts, and two more lame Bush speeches under our belt, if the "I" word won't be getting some traction?
Posted by T2 at June 29, 2005 06:56 PMT2, I don't think the Democrats would have the spine to impeach Bush even if they could. However, pressure from the masses might force them into that action.
Posted by Judith at June 30, 2005 01:23 AMThe Democrats can't do anything until they regain control of congress. The house is takeable next year but, because the seats that are up next year are already majority democratic, the senate isn't likely to turn before 2008.
Also, the idea of the GOP turning on Bush isn't going to happen. All the publicity from the investigations ect. would do is harm them more and they know that.
Posted by sage at June 30, 2005 04:12 AMFYI, The 'No Fly Zones' were not sanctioned by the United Nations, but were imposed illegally by the US and Britian.
No UN Resolution allowed for it, even though it is the popular myth here in the US that it was a part of the sanction regime imposed after the first Gulf War.
It would be by definition consider an act of agression, and justifiable under international law for Iraq to retaliate. That is if it were any other Gov't, then the US.
