Comments: Love Fest in Sacramento

Why isn't the Democratic Party's position on all this: The Governor said that if California replaced Grey Davis with him that he would fix everything. So why hasn't he? And why does he always blame other people when he can't do what he promised he would do?

This a-hole is going to get re-elected even though he is a total failure. That is two in as many years and I JUST CAN'T STAND IT!

the people need to use their political donations to hire a lobbying firm-this seems to be the ONLY way to get the politicians' attention!! Find out who sits on the appropriate commitee & then see if any lobbyist is related to any Democrat on that commitee & hire & lobby away. I hope it packs more wallop than simply calling/writing ones House Rep/Senator.

Paradox said "If the CTA goes down this year vouchers will not be far behind. The GOP then will complete its goal of dismantling public education, and California will forever be a lost dream." Let's see, Kalifornia is ranked number 42, down where Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi are, and thats before the Governator was elected. Democrats held all statewide elected jobs and controlled the legistlature, and y'all say the GOP is doing this. Looks to me the Dems have been doing the dismantling. Looks to me the dream has gone happened with y'all controlling the purse strings. You complain that the Governator hasn't fixed it yet, get behind him an support him. Can you do worse than number 42? There's virtually no where to go but up. And y'all complain about W's handling education in Texas. Pre Prop 13, Kalifornia had the best education in the US. Now your comparitives are Arkansas and Mississippi. Great place your education is at.

While I'm here, where is all the concern about the SCOTUS decision on "Kelo"? What's this conection between Ms. Pelosi and the Ratner brother's Forest City Enterprises, Inc., a company that uses eminent domain seizures alot? Could that explain that wierd quotes from Ms. Pelosi the other day?

"Again, without focusing on the actual decision, just to say that when you withhold funds from enforcing a decision of the Supreme Court you are, in fact, nullifying a decision of the Supreme Court. This is in violation of the respect for separation of church -- powers in our Constitution, church and state as well. Sometimes the Republicans have a problem with that as well. But forgive my digression.

So the answer to your question is, I would oppose any legislation that says we would withhold funds for the enforcement of any decision of the Supreme Court no matter how opposed I am to that decision. And I'm not saying that I'm opposed to this decision, I'm just saying in general."

"It is a decision of the Supreme Court. If Congress wants to change it, it will require legislation of a level of a constitutional amendment. So this is almost as if God has spoken. It's an elementary discussion now. They have made the decision."

So her thinking is it would require a Constitional Amendment to change "Kelo". WOW, that money Forest City spent was wisely spent. One of those Ratner brothers also runs the "humanrightsnow.org" website, and is president of Soros's "Center for Constitutional Rights". Any of you live in Oakland? Remember that Uptown Project in Oakland, another Forest City eminent domain project? And if you're looking. These Ratner brother's don't grease both sides torward the middle, like Haliburton. They ONLY contribute to Democrats. True 'Blue' Democrats.

Apparently, Peter can't draw the correct conclusion from his data. Starving education spending in California began with Prop 13 as the primary cause (which is still in effect), and continued from the late 1970's until today under both Republican and Democratic governors. The voucher attempt will be the next effort to further dismantle publlic education, following on 30 years of underfunding, and that is a Republican idea ( as was Prop 13 to begin with).
With respect to "Kelo," where was all your concern when urban renewal was taking poor peoples' property in the 1950s and 1960s?

Well Charles, since I was born in the 50's, I probably wasn't aware. Isn't/wasn't California a Blue state when Prop 13 passed? My comment said 'pre' Prop 13 not 'post'. Who voted for Prop 13? My guess is "the people" did. Looks like "the people" need to overturn/replace Prop 13 with something else that provides better funding for education.

Vouchers seemed to have worked in Milwaukee until the Democratic establishment told the locals it didn't. And the Democratic Mayor of DC demanded vouchers from Congress to help the poor in DC out of their education plight. Vouchers seem to be 'an' answer for those whose school systems aren't working for the good of the children for whatever reason.

Peter,

California went Republican in every presidential election from 1968 until 1988. Prop. 13 passed in 1978, the chronological center of the state's Reagan red period.
