Talk about spin. "The end game was to get CBS News to not only soil itself over memos whose underlying facts have never been disproven by the White House,"
The "facts" were never disproven? Yes they were. Even Dan Ratherbiased admitted the source was bogus and he had not a shred of evidence. It ended his career. You didn't notice?
Posted by Karla at July 8, 2005 02:27 PMKarla, the report that CBS commissioned on the event never passed judgment on the material in the memos, just the memos themselves and the motives of the source (Burkett). And the CBS investigation did not question the producer and the person who brought the story to CBS, nor Dan Rather.
Rather's mea culpa dealt with his judgment in going with a story that wasn't fully checked out first as to the two above points. CBS rushed this story out and buried the Niger story because they had heard that others were on the trail of the TANG memos.
Posted by Steve Soto at July 8, 2005 02:36 PMWOW!! I think CBS let us all down. I am so tired of the bulling done by the White House. Surely there is an independent station somewhere that could air it. How about FSTV or Democracy Now! ?? Just give Miss Amy a lead and she will get the real story.

Sure, Karla's post is what you term a "good job" if you believe in fairyland. Nothing she posted is based on truth, but we knew you would like it Muckdog. Can't you people tell reality from fantasy world anymore?
Posted by Juidth at July 8, 2005 03:47 PMNo, Judith, they will not.
They will tell you with an utterly straight face Bush won the 2000 election and that counting votes is unconstitutional.
They will continue to yap whatever they wish as their own lives spin completely unchanged in their safe little orbits. The only world they know is the one they see; the awareness that all human perception is severely limited never occurrs to them.
Real American humans know and care about lives other than our own. These freaks want their teevee and wonder bread--the rest of the world be damned. End of story.
Posted by paradox at July 8, 2005 05:30 PMHey paradox --
What was that thingy you were talking about several weeks ago? Starting an online org, to raise money for the progressive push back?
Bob Fertik of democrats.com had a similar idea, and last month there was a summit of deep pocket donors here in Denver. I want to pitch the idea of them putting up seed money to get the project going.
Write me -- maybe we can strike a spark.
Posted by ck at July 8, 2005 05:37 PMKarla,
What a breath of fresh air. I too, enjoyed watching Dan Rather twist in the wind, as his bull---- was spoonfed back to him by the blog detectives, who smelled a big stinking rat in about 4 nanoseconds.
He stood by his story for awhile, then very begrudgingly admitted it was all a load of crap he has swallowed without chewing. Ha. Then came the swift boat vets and smeared Kerry's face in his life of lies. It was a bad time to be a left wing dem.
What spin the lefties put on the SBVets. They would have us believe that out of about 240 SBV's that had served in close proximity with Kerry, all but about 6 said he was a self promoting, lying psychopath. The 6 who said he was a hero also had their own medals to defend.
The funny thing was that about 60 to 70 percent of the SBVets claimed to be Democrats. That was the real clincher. Even Democrats couldn't stand the horrific Kerry stench. Thus, we have a GOP prez, a GOP majority in both houses, and soon will have two very conservative new SC justices.
We should thank the Dem strategists. They are the best friend of the GOP.

Why Karla, Bones (aka Coward), Chevy, etc. post here is fucking beyond me. They are not invited to post here and no one gives a rat's ass what they have to say. Yet, they pat one another on the ass for their ridiculous posts and think themselves brilliant. These are people who are truly unhappy in their lives.

It's to inject a bit of reality into your leftist delusional world. Now go feel good about yourself.
Posted by Bones at July 8, 2005 07:39 PMRegardless of the merits of what Rather reported, the real tragedy is that CBS did not report what the Boston Globe reported last summer: two signed documents by GW, one within a year or two of starting his TANG gig and one within a year of ending his gig, both stating GW did not meet his expected basic performance standards and that if he continued to do so he'd wind up in the mill with everyone who didn't have the pull to get into TANG. If that doesn't prove GW got special treatment, I don't know what does.
I also agree the public should see the CBS Niger story given the Downing Street Memo and the Plame investigation heating up. Bush will never be up for election again.
Posted by A Missed Opportunity at July 8, 2005 07:52 PMBones, how sanctimonious of you. Of course, we are not interested in your faux reality.

1) Steve, the answer to your question is obvious. CBS is in the tank. Either the owners want regulatory/tax goodies from the Bush admin, and/or they are scared shitless of the Bush admin after the pounding they took over memogate last year. They will do nothing to make Dear Leader look bad. (Unless it becomes "safe" to do so, but we're not at that point yet.)
2) Folks, here's a little comment PSA:
DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS!!!
Thank you
Posted by NJ Brian at July 8, 2005 10:25 PMI think the main point about Bush in the National Guard is that he was a coward who supported the Vietnam War only if someone else did the dying and fighting. And so he continues the same stance by starting a war in which he willingly sacrifices other people's daughters, but not his own. And if you believe in this mess then I expect you to run down to the recruiting office and sign on up. Otherwise shut up.

dan rathers story has never been disproven..only the phoney docs..the underlying sory is true..a small fact you all seem to forget
john kerry was a war hero..he volunteered for duty that put him in a small boat riding through combat territory..to diminish that is to be cowardly..like you two...you take the side of a man who shirked his duty in a time of war..and the reason that you do that is that i am sure both of you are cut from the same ilk as him...shallow and empty and cowards like him..the last reguge of a scoundrel is patriotism...john kerry proved what he was made of..and so has the fraud in the white house
Posted by dennis at July 9, 2005 07:33 AMWhat did all of Bush's war buddies say about his service in Vietnam? Oh, right, he didn't go. And the buddies from the Texas Air Guard? Something about partying, women and just not being around when he was supposed to be. Great moral leader, my ass.
Posted by ann at July 9, 2005 07:56 AMdennis, those documents could not be proven authentic but also could not conclusively be proven as fakes according to the CBS whitewash commission. Needless to say it was stupid on CBS's part to use them when they certainly didn't need them to prove Junior was anything less than honest about his military service. All the military records to date show and demonstrate Junior was easily given a huge pass for his less than stellar and honest service stateside. This is all easily proven by multiple verifiable and authentic papers dug up by Paul Lukasiak as a part of his investigation into Junior's TANG service, aptly named The AWOL Project. But those types of facts tend to go against the Kool-Aid drinkers who frequent this site (and offer absolutely nothing to refute or explain those verfiable findings)and who obviously enjoy being lied to consistently by their Cult Leeder's Administration. Nothing else explains why these people continue to defend the indefensible other than that they must be fully deluded or that they enjoy being lied to with impugnity by those running our government.
Anyway, Steve's post deals with a horrible case of self-censorship by our media. You would think that these people defending Junior and the lack of investigation into the forgeries would want to know who, why, and how someone successfully got away with this and as a result made their hero, Commander Codpiece, look like a fool because he was duped by those forged documents. You would think that they would want to know that happened? YOu would think that, but you would be wrong. One reason, they can't handle the truth.
Posted by emal at July 9, 2005 08:26 AMemal .. well said
how does one denigrate the service of john kerry..and champion the actions of a fraud..? i really truly do not understand how these people think...it's not rational
Posted by dennis at July 9, 2005 08:33 AMSpeaking of Paul Lukasiak and the AWOL project, the CBS 60 Minutes producers interviewed Paul and had all of his research. Unfortunately, they chose to use the Killian Memos instead, because they were sexier.
Paul discovered that Bush was paid for drills he never performed, and in so doing -- George W Bush DEFRAUDED the Federal Government. How is this known? Bush was paid for make-up drills that supposedly happened before the drills he missed. ANG doesn't allow that -- you can only do make-ups after a drill is missed. Plus, there were no drills on the dates Bush was paid for.
George W Bush is a liar and a thief, and a deserter from the Texas Air National Guard.
Posted by ck at July 9, 2005 08:44 AMcould not conclusively be proven as fakes
You don't prove a negative. The onus is on you to prove guilt. That'd be like you asking a Christian to prove that God exists, and them responding by "Oh, well you prove that he doesn't exist!"
Thus, Rather resigned. Karla is right.
I like to come to this site because the bloggers here are so unique in their views. You make most Democrats look like right-wing whackos.

When an adult rejects civil dialogue and instead substitutes child-like namecalling, it's a pretty good sign their position is without much merit. That's all we have here.
To the rest of you who seem to be under the impression that I believe Bush is some kind of war hero, listen up....
This is not an either/or world. Things do not have to be one extreme or the other. In other words, because I point out that Kerry was a lousy candidate tells you absolutely nothing about what I think of Bush. If you said you don't like cow's milk would that mean you love goat's milk?
Not at all. I'm seeing some very below average reasoning ability on this blog.
In three months of challenging Bush haters why they liked Kerry, not one of them gave an answer that wasn't "He's not Bush". Kerry was a laughable candidate. If you people don't understand that, you are doomed to repeat your failures. I'm sure this type of reasoning is what is keeping you all down at the bottom of the economic ladder, as well. It isn't because the mean government won't give you "a helping hand" so that you can have a "level playing field" in order to prevent you from "falling through the cracks".
It isn't because the mean Republicans refuse to "give something back" to society.
It's because you have been raised to believe you have rights and entitlements that you simply do not have. You need to get OFF YOUR COMPUTERS snd do something productive for a change.
Posted by Bones at July 9, 2005 08:58 AMdennis, thanks! I totally concur with your thoughts about it. Continue to notice how people defending the indefensible never respond to the crux of Steve's, your's,mine or others' posts that deal with or question Dear Leeder's honesty and also his stupidity for being duped by the forged Niger Documents. Continue to notice they can't produce anything refuting or explaining the results of Paul Lukasiak's work yet continue to attack the messengers of that information.

my family..my child ..are less safe today then they were 5 years...i am so sick of people like you and the direction people like you have allowed this country to go in...i am so sick of their lies and people like you who believe in them ..no matter how obvious....there are two kinds of republicans..selfish or stupid...some are both

You wouldn't know from plowing through their
nonsense, that Repubs have been in control of Congress for the last 12 years and the WH for 4+ years and the Supreme Court and the media also.
Their legacy will be war, death, lies, massive corruption, poverty, ill health, constitutional subversion, taxes, bigger-than-ever government, treasonous partisanship, more abortions, and MORE TERRORISM. What a foul-smelling crew they are.
So many trolls...so little time.
Thee "facts" were never disproven? Yes they were.
What the fuck are you talking about? The fact that the idiot son of George Bush had gay affairs with his homeboy at Yale? The fact he deserted the Guard? The fact he ran every business he ever headed into the ground? The fact he forced his girlfriend to get an abortion? The fact he traded oil with Saddam during Gulf War 1 (traitor in my book). The fact he failed at everything he ever did until Rove came along and got him in office, at which he fails miserably? Which fact do you want?
all but about 6 said he was a self promoting, lying psychopath.
Oh shit. "Mr. No-Fact-Check" himself. You make it like shooting fish in a barrel.
You love to troll the Swift Boat Vets. Why? What have you got going for these liars? Explain something to me. What were they doing on Social Security savings accounts and why did they drop it so fast when AARP started digging in their backgrounds? Explain that to me.
But lets get honest. We all know it's the fault of the poor that the isoGB gave a huge ass tax break to his base (the wealthy) causing your state and local taxes to explode which costs you more in the long run. God damn poor people! How dare they borrow all that money from the Asians!
It's because you have been raised to believe you have rights and entitlements that you simply do not have.
Yeah. Like the Bill of Rights. That the country was not founded on christian pinciples and there is separation of Church and State. Like liars don't prosper. Like we're all in this together. Like we start with a level playing field. Like it's proper to help those who can't help themselves. Like elections are fair and each vote is counted. You know...all that liberal shit you hate.
Soto, for the love of God, please throw away your Robert Mapplethorpe books...Dang. Sounds like you guys have got some ombudspeople up your collective kiester.
What the fuck are you talking about? Not enough soldiers die in Iraq this week to suit you or feed you vampire-like blood lust? My dear, you are the one who seems to not understand civil dialogue. It has been your lack of understanding that has resulted in many of the responses by people here on The Left Coaster to your idiotic posts, including mine. You are not interested in an exchange of ideas and opinions in a civil dialogue, you are only driven by the need to negate everyone and anyone on this Blog. That's you game, and your payoff is you get to feel superior in your feeble mind.

This is like blaming a driver who is going the speed limit for the road rage of someone in a hurry.
I take responsibility for what I say. I mean what I say. Much of what I'm reading on this blog is mere sentimental gibberish said only to make the poster feel good about him/herself.
It's easy to offer solutions to world problems - just say Hey make SOMEONE ELSE pay more taxes and then give them a list of things you want done. Meanwhile, you contribute what....$1000 per year? (or if you're Phid, zero)

"You can't win an election in this country unless you talk to people who you think aren't for you," Clinton said. "A person who wants to be president has to be at home with issues and people when he knows he's on the losing side."
Clinton was accompanied to Aspen by his wife, 2008 presidential hopeful and Kerry rival Hillary Clinton. Sen. Clinton was scheduled to address the Aspen Ideas Institute Sunday afternoon.
He was talking about Kerry here, but apply it for us too. We have "to be at home with issues and people when 'we' knows 'we're' on the losing side."

In case you weren't aware, the documents were created using Microsoft Font, not available back then. Of course, you'd have to have read the news to have known that (but your opinion might be different)
