Comments: White House Media Corps Goes On Attack Against McClellan Today

Great news. But let's see if they continue it tomorrow.

A lot of it may be traced to bloggers lighting them up all weekend over their failure to ask.

It figures you liberals and your liberal media hounds would attack the administration so soon after the London terror attack.

Posted by Al at July 11, 2005 01:38 PM

That's some particularly uninspired trolling there, Al. You can do better than that; I know you can!

Posted by Matt Davis at July 11, 2005 01:42 PM

Let's hope and pray that hell hath no furry like a media scorned.

Posted by Jesusland Joe at July 11, 2005 01:44 PM

While this is a fun transcript, the video is work of murderous art. Several times Scotty completely loses composure, including a storming out finale that would have made Ross Perot jealous.

Posted by idiosynchronic at July 11, 2005 01:45 PM

Sorry for the typo. I meant FURY. We don't spell too good down here in texass.

Posted by Jesusland Joe at July 11, 2005 01:45 PM

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the "blood is in the water", the WH press corps is springing into action----I'll be amazed if there are two consecutive days of coverage.

What must it be like to be inside a brain like Al's?

Posted by euzoius at July 11, 2005 01:46 PM

Teh DailyKOS diary/running transcript is just as tasty.

But euzious is right - will the sudden determination by the Gaggle to make Scotty cry last?

I shouldn't be enjoying this so much. I should be cynical, keep looking long-term, etc. But it's the most fun I've ever had in reading a Gaggle transcript evar, and I've been reading Holden's Obsession for months now.

Posted by idiosynchronic at July 11, 2005 01:54 PM

The polish must have come off the apple…..Bush’s second term is coming apart at the seams and the “powers that be” realize that. This administration went as far as it could and now they hit the wall (the Peter Principle). Remember, some things move incrementally slow but it is still part of a larger agenda that is slated to come to fruition many years from now. So, someone is letting the dogs free this time because they see the end of the line for Bush and think it best to let the administration flutter in the wind and get massacred. Time to prepare the second team for next presidential election.

In addition, I think that the Rove/Plame affair is a safe story for the media to get around. It deals more with the domestic, internal political shenanigans than sticky things like patriotism, the Iraqi war, religion etc. Although the Rove/Plame affair is linked to all of the above.

Posted by Parallax at July 11, 2005 02:02 PM

The press should go right through Rove to Bush and attack his credibility. He's been covering for Rove from day one, yet telling the world that he didn't know who outed Plame. Go after Bush - Rove's already being taken care of.

Posted by Max at July 11, 2005 02:03 PM

Joe - I liked the furry one better, I actually laughed out loud! (I refuse to type the acronym, ever)

idio - I love Holden's Gaggle, he's a gem, for sure. And is that Kevin Drum's Al? If so, he and bones will get along very well. Except I think I hurt bones' feelings in an earlier thread. I almost feel bad.

Nahh.

Note to the Left Coaster Staff - you have got to get First Draft on the Links list.

Posted by idiosynchronic at July 11, 2005 02:18 PM

Blood in the water, glee, my heart warms at the idea of Rove being frogmarched. But I can't help but think -- he will skate on this one, he'll avoid prosecution somehow and emerge as a "victim". Those who think that Rove has been nailed forget that this is an administration that has prosecutors, courts, as well as juries in the bag. (I am puzzled by Fitzgerald's bulldog tenacity, perhaps is is truly an independent counsel -- in which case we might be in for another infamous Saturday Massacre a al Archibald Cox... who was ultimately fired by --right -- Robert Bork)

Posted by degustibus at July 11, 2005 02:24 PM

I just wonder how the big wig media types (Russert, Mathews, etc.) who were already well informed about this little cabal are going to handle this. How do they sit there in front of the cameras and act as if they themselves were not participants and hiding the fact that the Rove committed a crime?

Posted by michaelw at July 11, 2005 02:25 PM

Hmm, lets see, the WH is lying to us? Oh wow, I really can't believe that. Not these God-fearing true Christians! Oh no, wait, I remember now, they made believe there were WMD in Iraq as the excuse for an illegal war. They tell us that the disaster in Iraq is going well. They ignore the Afghanistan news, that it is a major narco-state. They straight-faced deny outing Plame. The tell us the economy is booming and the deficit doesn't matter, while at the same time making sure their super rich friends are not inconvenienced by paying too much of their share of taxes. They claim to fight for democracy (as if they actually know what democracy IS)while setting up a real Gulag (yeah, I used THAT word) at the same time as ringing the world's oil supply with bases and forward military "stop-overs". And on, and on, and on, and on! And you REALLY think that Rove is going to go? He didn't really NAME Plame anyway. So what do you think will happen. There'll be a hue and cry for a day or two, the WH will continue to dissemble (ah, that's the word!) and it will all go by the same wayside as all the other crap, and voila (sorry for the French) some other lie will preoccupy us for a day or two, and NOTHING will happen to anyone resonsible, NOTHING! Wanna bet?
Oh yeah, and Al, sure, turn the whole thing into a patriotic test, sooo soon after London, blah, blah, blah. That's the way to shut up the dissenters, make em look like the terrorists!

Posted by jambo92 at July 11, 2005 02:35 PM

Has anyone heard anything about Bolton lately? Hm!

Posted by Ron In Portland at July 11, 2005 02:39 PM

This is hilarious! The only thing funnier would be if the leak had come from Laura... or a naughty intern getting inside information... I guess we'll find out just how loyal Bush is to his "friends"... This makes his Gonzo comment pretty funny now too... maybe it's just me..

Posted by Tex at July 11, 2005 02:40 PM

Novak said "two senior administration officials". Rove adds up to one. When will the press and Fitz reveal the second. If Rove is "senior", then the remaining choices are few, as he appears to be third from the top at the WH. It would need to be someone just below him, or above.

Posted by T2 at July 11, 2005 02:46 PM

Al has to be a plant... no one has their head that far up their ___ for that post to be serious...

Posted by Tex at July 11, 2005 02:47 PM

Noodles Jefferson!

Hope Rovesputin has a good supply of KY.

Posted by Vinnie at July 11, 2005 03:10 PM

McClellan can't lie worth a damn.

He better have an attorney. Jesus even the press spokesman is a felon in a Bush WH!

Posted by paradox at July 11, 2005 03:18 PM

This is the most hopeful day in four and a half years. Let's hope it continues until the bitter end for all of these criminals.

Posted by Judith at July 11, 2005 03:41 PM

Obvious follow up that wasn't asked: Who and when was teh WH specifically asked to stop answering questions on the case?

This is McClellan's basis for not answering anything now. I'm willing to watch him squirm for a bit until indictments are handed out.

Oh to be a fly on the wall the last few days.

Posted by Simp the Biodiesel Pimp at July 11, 2005 04:30 PM

Actually, the when part of that followup was asked. Mr. McClellan refused to answer because it was again part of an ongoing investigation.

...there was nowhere to run, and no place to hide.

Posted by vidstudent at July 11, 2005 04:49 PM

The "when part" was asked, and Scotty said "sometime back then."

Here's something to think about: They had days to get their story together. This was the best they could come up with.

Posted by Matt Davis at July 11, 2005 05:05 PM

Great point, Matt.

If you haven't I urge you in the strongest possible terms to follow the link and watch Scotty up there.

"Did Karl Rove committ a crime?"

It echoes in my mind--spoken aloud, at last, on the record. The beginning of the end.

Finally. Please make sure there is not too much length on the ankle chains.

Posted by paradox at July 11, 2005 05:18 PM

Call me cynical, but the space shuttle is scheduled for Wednesday. A crash would sure get everyone's mind (and the media) off Rove in a flash. I hate to think about it.

Posted by ann at July 11, 2005 05:23 PM

Ann, you're cynical--in a bad way. As opposed to Jambo92, who is cynical in a good way.

Posted by obelus at July 11, 2005 05:38 PM

I was waiting all day to get out of work so I could watch the video; then, I had to go out for dinner. Grrr.

So, I finally saw it. Wow.

Not only was the gaggle not buying. They weren't even trying the bemused, detached act that reporters usually affect when they want somebody to know not to bullshit them. No, sirree--these guys were angry.

I think McClellan's going to be fired.

Posted by Matt Davis at July 11, 2005 05:53 PM

McClellan is crap. We need a big fucking he-man up in there who'll scare off little nancy-boys like Terry Moran.

Posted by Toby Petzold at July 11, 2005 06:50 PM

It figures you liberals and your liberal media hounds would attack the administration so soon after the London terror attack.

Why, Al! Long time no see! I hope it wasn't something I said? You weren't cross with me, were you? I just don't think I could live with myself if I thought you were cross with me. And I agree Al, it is the best time to attack the administration. Thanks for pointing out the admnistration left the world a much less safe place through their folly. I'm so glad you agree it's time to point these cads out for what they are.

Tell me, idiosynchronic, do you think Scotty will comment on it while it's an ongoing investigation? Gosh, David Gregory really hands him his ass! It's great to see little Scotty shake and sweat!

Why Al, I'm so sorry. You're still standing there. You may go.

Posted by phidipides at July 11, 2005 06:50 PM

Yeah! Jeff Gannon!

Posted by phidipides at July 11, 2005 06:55 PM

Anyway, I've set all of you wankers straight over at my crizzib. Check it out.

Posted by Toby Petzold at July 11, 2005 06:56 PM

Terry Moran has always hung his penis--such as it is--out at the press briefings. Only a small minority of the public--say, 10%--will actually click on the briefing link and see the video.

Comes time to be the man on the nightly broadcast and Terry turns out to be nothin' but a cross-dresser wannabe journalist, the innocent look for a whoring hip thrown out on the nightly newscast. His bosses pay for the tricks, so Terry hops to and fro.

I missed the national tonight 'cause Debbie had home stock rissotto on the stove and I had to do everything else. I am not allowing those whores into my family kitchen so misssed it, but I'm sure Terry the Tart was in top form nonetheless, the press briefing he-man gone.

How many souls screamn from the agony of war in vain from these whores and their propaganda? Do not expect the best of men as these events unfold, I'm afraid.

Posted by paradox at July 11, 2005 07:06 PM

Crooks and Liars. If Kerry had stuck with that theme the entire campaign he'd be saddled with the Iraq mess, terribly stagnant economy and a legion of ex-Bushies to haul before the court. Yes, yes, crooks and liars, that will be the historical legacy of George W. Bush. No wonder Kerry dropped that line like a hot potato. Who in their right mind would want to try to clean up the Elephant dung-heap of the Bush Administration?

Posted by T2 at July 11, 2005 07:14 PM

Terry Moran was so-so. David Gregory was flat pissed. Roberts also stuck it to him. The beauty was that the first five guys all had exactly the same response to his evasion, and they kept pushing the logical consequence of McClellan's non-responsive answers to the questions of the guy who went before him.

I don't know whether they agreed beforehand that they weren't going to allow him to get away with an evasion, but the net effect was pretty devastating. Scotty was visibly melting.

Posted by Matt Davis at July 11, 2005 07:35 PM

McClellan is crap. We need a big fucking he-man up in there who'll scare off little nancy-boys like Terry Moran.......wait now everyone, Toby's got something to mutter...I agree Toby...we'll get you another bottle of Viagra and a fifth Jack Daniels......how about we get a General Patton outfit to go with the stupor......Tubby Puznolt for Press Secretary...I like it!!

Posted by Goyo at July 11, 2005 08:03 PM

Steve Clemons has an interesting remark on his site!
I asked whether it was possible that Rove had weighed in to this vengeful battle against Joe Wilson not knowing the illegality of commenting on Valerie Plame Wilson's covert responsibilities. This person simply smiled and said that Karl Rove "doesn't make these kinds of mistakes" and knew "exactly what he was doing."
This tells it all. I also believe that the other mention by Novak must be Cheney. It has been reported that Cheney was the only VP ever, that was going to the CIA office and was often with George Tenet. (Conyers DSM)

Posted by not stupid at July 11, 2005 08:47 PM

Speaking of Cheney, where in the hell has he been? It's like he has disappeared.

Posted by Judith at July 11, 2005 09:06 PM

Idiosynchronic, thank you so much for posting the video. Oh, my, God! Evidently reporters don't like being made to look like fools. I will say one thing for Scotty, he has the WH line down pat. I saw with my own eyes and still can't believe the press conferece, and the reporters responses. Reminded me of the good old days when reporters really were reporters.

Posted by Judith at July 11, 2005 10:00 PM

You guys should head over to Toby's blog--he's got kind of a greatest hits of Plame case misinformation going over there, starting with the (by now) ridiculous assertion that Plame wasn't "undercover" anyway--which of course explains the 18 plus month investigation and Grand Jury currently seated in Washington, along with the panic stricken response of lil Scotty today.

Posted by Pat M at July 12, 2005 12:13 AM

Yes, good question where is "Baghdad Dick"???? Could it be health problems????

Posted by jk at July 12, 2005 01:47 AM

Dick's been dead for a couple years now. The animatronics that animate his carcass are just in the shop for their 1,000-crime tune-up.

Posted by Matt Davis at July 12, 2005 05:14 AM

Matt, LOL

Posted by Judith at July 12, 2005 05:22 AM

Bum-ticker Dick was in for more "routine" testing last I heard. Seems perhaps his cold stoney little heart is in its last throes.

Posted by muckcat at July 12, 2005 05:50 AM

Let's hope the D.C. press corps get's that self-righteous indignation that they had with the Clinton-Lewinsky affair. Like when they couldn't believe that Clinton lied about sex! It may take them awhile to realize that they are being lied to (hmmmm.. five years? And this time it's national security and not the President's penis at issue). But when they do.. watch out! Or at least, here's hoping.

Posted by TimW at July 12, 2005 05:52 AM

Oh, but Clinton's penis was so much more interesting for them.

Posted by Judith at July 12, 2005 07:54 AM

"It figures you liberals and your liberal media hounds would attack the administration so soon after the London terror attack."

Are you really this stupid? No one could be this stupid.

Posted by Oakland at July 12, 2005 08:13 AM

hindsight is easy but

maybe if this adminstration had taken osama bin laden seriously and listened to the outgoing clinton administration and richard clarke 9/11 MIGHT have been avoided

maybe if we had kept focus on al-quaeda and hunted down the killers..instead of invading a country that wasn't involved..the london attacks MAY NOT have occured

perhaps our leaders have made grave errors in the fight against terrorism..

maybe it's time to make some changes

Posted by euzoius at July 11, 2005 01:46 PM

I'm just guessing, but it sounds to me as though it's a lot like what the Drunken Cokeheaded Fratboy Deserter is trying to turn this country into: a vast wasteland covered with ice.

That is, if you can consider someone with less working grey matter than Terri Schiavo as having anything resembling a brain at all...

Posted by (: Tom :) at July 12, 2005 09:00 AM

Matt, I just found a funny site. It's "Isdickcheneydeadyet.com". When you click on the site, the answer is no, that's all, just no. I guess he is still sneering away somewhere.

This is what happens when toby gets the wrong meds. Goyo, if you could refrain from interrupting toby's sleep time with recreational drugs, it would be greatly appreiciated.
