Comments: "Duke" Cunningham Will Not Run For Reelection In 2006

The first leg of the "Axis of Weasel." Rove and DeLay to go.

You know, Howard Dean's been talking about the Culture of Corruption in the Republican Party, but the left/Dem blogosphere has really fallen down on pressing that very point. Here you have a man whose entire political career was a sham - if not an outright crime - and all you can do is note that he's a loser.

He's not just a loser, he's a symptom of the complete collapse of the integrity of the conservative viewpoint. You should frame Cunningham and every other right-wing slime in the overarching context of the decay of their party. Or is winning in '06 of secondary importance to getting a good fucking laugh every day?

Whoa, Bandit.

Chill out a bit. If we can't have a little fun here, what's the point. If we were focused all the time--heartless, souless, mindless robots-- we'd be Republicans.

Bandit, you obviously are a new reader of this site.

So was rove's dem attack tied into setting the stage for this or just a court battle? I'm sure they weren't expecting the testimony of TreasonGate to surface or pin him but what was the calulation of that ranting week anyways to show the dems a the punks of washington? Sepa.

Steve,

No, I'm not a new reader of this site. I've been reading it for over a year, and commenting variously. This blog is undisciplined, and most of the time rarely surpasses a vanity site. You're a step up from most of the commentators here, but even you fall prey to playing to your audience rather than leading. The PretzelsOne on this site may love stopping by for a few cheap laughs, but that seems a waste of the amount of text you're sending into the virtual void.

Get focused. On anything. Please.

Bandit,

Sometimes we just have to laugh, or else we would cry.

I'm certain that constructive criticism is always welcome, but the lack of focus jab is not justified IMHO. I would cite eriposte's detailed and informed posts regarding the Rove/Plame/Wilson thang as the most recent example of focus. Simply perusing the archives will show that the contributers here have focused with clarity and attention to detail on many topics. I guess if one wants to simply pound away at a narrow number of points, this place may not be your cup of tea. There are many fronts to fight right now. I think TLC does a great job of covering most if not all of them.

As one of the regular posters on this site said a few days ago, it's the first place I come to and always return. (Sorry rlprather if I didn't type your words exactly, but I think I got the gist.)

I suppose he figured running a campaign from prison would be too hard.

Posted by Ron In Portland at July 14, 2005 06:35 PM

Really, if you can't stop and laugh a little, then what's the point of fighting?

And Bandit, Steve's too polite to say that your stomping in and telling a respected and seasoned blogger how to run his own site is nothing short of rude, but I'm not. Would you walk into a local newspaper and tell them what stories they should run? How would you expect to be treated if you did?

If you have such strong opinions about how a blog should be run, by all means, start your own.

Duke - he played on his war record in a town where that would be a slam dunk. Then he just parlayed his office into a personal grab-fest. He is a Republican in a Republican district, but really, he's a politician, not so different from any. They grab what they can when they are in a position to do so. He just came around at a time when his party was feeding at the trough. Don't confuse greedy politicians with the hard-core revolutionists that are at the core of the Bush-fronted Administration. Keep your eye on the ball, don't let the Duke's of the land take our eyes off the DeLay's and the Rovian Christian NutWingers who are playing the game for a lot higher stakes than a nice yacht and a profitable real estate deal.

Fiven the nature of this district, the true campaign will likely be in rhe Republican primary.

Posted by at July 14, 2005 06:58 PM

Fiven........what rhe heck does that mean.

You want focus, I'd rather have some intelligent reasoning and accuracy. Well remember last week after the horrible London Bombings and Steve wrote a post about it citing the fact that last year someone in the WH administration prematurely outed a Pakastani Al qaeda operative in custody that had been flipped and was now working as a mole. That premature outing caused the London agents to have to act quickly to wrap up the cell this mole was connected with and well unfortunately because of that some escaped. Well reports out tonight on ABC (see Americablog)confirm STeve's fears about that bungled outing of the Al qaeda operative by the US(that at the time was strictly for political purposes because of the upcoming election). That mistake looks to have played a factor and contributed to the London Bombing last week. Unfortunately Steve's worst fears about that incident appear to be accurate...

Does this mean Josh Marshall can nail his scalp to the sidebar at TPM, right next to Trent Lott's helmet hairpiece?

Oh, wait -- isn't Duke kinda sorta bald?

eeewww . . . .

Iamcoyote, you took the words out of my mouth. From my personal point-of-view, Steve has one of the most successful Blogs on the net, and I have learned more here than any other blog. You might also note that our focus is often distracted because of some ridiculous troll.

You know, you take off for a few days, and look what happens.

But rest assured, I won't forget about the dukestir, nor is the grand jury likely too, in fact, his announcement might be little more then a forlorn hope that the long arm of the law will forget about cunningham.

But they won't. Because it isn't just about cunningham, but defense dept contractors, the public trough, the public's tax money, and people's lives.

Bandit seems to be missing the point. It really isn't about these personalities, these individuals per se, but what the fuckers do. And what they're doing needs to stop. So if we can roll one up, good, but there's more where that came from.
