Now that Rove has been fingered, Bush will try to divert the attention away the Plame case. Rumor has it that he will announce a Supreme Court replacement for O'Connor this week, or maybe make a recess appointment of Bolton to the UN at the end of this month. Is it time for another anthrax attack or terrorist attack?

This point is admittedly very deep in the weeds. But if you're playing the Rove/Plame/Niger sleuth game like many of the rest of us, it's a significant point.
Much now turns, you'll remember, on this classified State Department memo, which seems likely to have been the source of the information about Joe Wilson and his wife that was circulating between reporters and White House staffers in early July 2003.
A couple days ago the Times reported that "the memorandum was dated June 10, 2003." That squares with what we know about the administration's concerns (or 'interest' if you're the gullible type) dating more than a month before his Times oped.
Today, however, Bloomberg reports that it was "prepared by the State Department on July 7, 2003."
Big difference.
Now, I guess you could say that a document needn't be prepared at the time it was dated. But had the memo been backdated a month I assume we'd have heard about this already, since that would be pretty big news in itself.
Bloomberg follows up with these grafs ...
Posted by ck at July 18, 2005 09:31 PMEriposte, completely off the topic of this, your latest post: have you seen today's entry over at DailyHowler.com? Somerby lends great credence to the SSCI report, in contrast to Wilson's claims. What's your response to his specific points? Is there an earlier post of yours I can refer to?
Posted by MikeL at July 18, 2005 09:32 PMMikeL,
I plan to cover the SSCI report this week...stay tuned.
Somerby has been seriously wrong on his Niger/uranium coverage and I've sent him emails before and he refused to acknowledge his mistakes and issue corrections.
Posted by eriposte at July 18, 2005 10:00 PMOn Charlie Rose tonight, this whole case was summed up in those famous words, "what did the WH know, when did they know it, and what did they do with the information." For anyone to suggest this case will disappear (trolls) are fooling themselves. Fitzgerald would not have imprisoned a reporter in a Federal prison and without an indictment, if he didn't have a case. The feeling of those reporters on Rose's show was that the case is growing bigger each day, and is even bigger than Fitzgerald may have thought originally. It is now a case about conspiracy and obstruction of justice. My greatest fear right now is what Bush will do in the near future, because the dike has too many leaks and the water is beginning to rush in.
Posted by Judith at July 18, 2005 10:34 PMEriposte, I look forward to your post about SSCI report.
