I sure am hoping Indictment Day comes soon. It's going to be fun to find out what's been waiting under the Indictment Tree.

Posted by Matt Davis at July 20, 2005 06:09 AM

still bitchin about wmd, huh? please do something constructive with your lives!

Posted by MIKE at July 20, 2005 06:27 AM

Of course we aren't bitching about WMD; we're bitching about no WMD.

Posted by Matt Davis at July 20, 2005 06:36 AM

what's the difference? its old news! get over it!

Posted by mike at July 20, 2005 06:39 AM

Well, see, American soldiers and Iraqi civilians keep getting killed over those no WMD, so it's still--unfortunately--quite current.

Posted by Matt Davis at July 20, 2005 06:47 AM

Bendito, have you come across any pertinent responses lately? What about reliable links that would help shed some light into your asinine remarks? Thought so.

Bloody pack-o-lies apologist moron…

Posted by quídam at July 20, 2005 07:02 AM

still beating that horse? what is it? bush lied, people died? so cute & clever. who came up with that little cutie? shit happens girls!

Posted by mike at July 20, 2005 07:31 AM

Looks like the Bush apologists are out in full force!

Posted by Ga6thDem at July 20, 2005 07:34 AM

Wow, mike, you're showing promising signs of dislodging ROOF as our stupidest, most hateful troll. Great work!

Posted by Matt Davis at July 20, 2005 07:48 AM

I wish they'd come up with smarter trolls, though, but I guess at 25 cents a post, the republicans get what they pay for. Twelve year olds, sheesh.

C'mon l'il mikey, I'm sure you have another "neener, neener" left in you! I'll give you a cookie!

Posted by iamcoyote at July 20, 2005 07:52 AM

They sure are! They are sure that the Roberts pick will save Karl Rove if they can keep us focussed on Roberts pick instead. This way, they can keep King George on his throne and pave the way for the corporate takeover of the world.

Posted by pessimist at July 20, 2005 07:52 AM

oh my god!!! you libs are beyond help. please do something constructive with your lives! you spend all day posting this shit?!?! day after day after day? think about what you're doing/saying.

please help yourselves, seek professional guiedance

Posted by MIKE at July 20, 2005 08:09 AM

The biggest story today? Not the slam dunk Supreme Court nominee. Not Hurricane Emily. Not Karl Rove.

This is Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's final testimony to the House Financial Services Committee. This is history. This is an end of an era. In 2006, we will have a new Fed Chairperson.

This is Greenspans' swan song, if you will.

What's Greenspan got to say?

"Our baseline outlook for the U.S. economy is one of sustained economic growth and contained inflation pressures. In our view, realizing this outcome will require the Federal Reserve to continue to remove monetary accommodation."

"The data released over the past two months or so accord with the view that the earlier soft readings on the economy were not presaging a more serious slowdown in the pace of activity."

"Employment has remained on an upward trend, retail spending has posted appreciable gains, inventory levels are modest, and business investment appears to have firmed."

"Household spending--buoyed by past gains in wealth, ongoing increases in employment and income, and relatively low interest rates--is likely to continue to expand."

Posted by muckdog at July 20, 2005 08:17 AM

On growing incomes:

"We have an over-supply of high-skilled jobs and an under-supply of people to fill them, the effect of which is to create a significant acceleration in average incomes of the highly skilled segment of our labor force," Greenspan told the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee.

"That, as you recall, I attribute to the fact that we've been unable in our educational institutions to move our younger people sufficiently quickly from grade four through high school into college and beyond at a pace which would create an adequate supply of the number of skilled workers which we need, which incidentally would bring the wage increases down but also simultaneously remove an excess of lesser-skilled workers."

Posted by muckdog at July 20, 2005 08:23 AM

How amusing, mikey. What you are exhibiting is called "projection." You know, accusing others of behaviours that you, yourself, are guilty of indulging in. You might want to look into professional help for your anger issues before you blow a gasket.

Posted by iamcoyote at July 20, 2005 08:35 AM

If that is what Greenspan said, then he is a lying sob.

Posted by Judith at July 20, 2005 08:45 AM

Everytime I turn around, some new feebleminded troll is posting. I suspect the meaning behind no WMD in Iraq are beyond Mike's comprehension. Any idiot, beyond the age of three, certainly understands in totality what no WMD has meant. Please tolls, send us some educated and intelligent opposition.

Posted by Juidth at July 20, 2005 09:04 AM

So I say yea for American. Good job and keep up the good work .

Posted by at July 20, 2005 10:33 AM

Kodak - 25,000; Hewlett-Packard - 45,000. *Good work* if you can get it or keep it, huh Centrist? The reduction in the "unemployment rate" is a screen for the increase in the number of long-term unemployed who have stopped looking for work altogether. Real wages are down while inflation hovers at or above three percent.

(Sorry, I don't know how to add links.) This is exactly how it looks in the economic world where I live. Quid vobis viditur, Mikey? (:>

Posted by Donald Cormac at July 20, 2005 11:13 AM

I have always found this "people just quit looking for work as a mask for the out of control unemployement in the country" theory totally crazy. I know a lot of people often do quit looking for work but it is either because they
1. Go to work for themselves
2. Didn't really have to have a job in the first place. i.e. take early retirement, etc.

Who are all of these people that can quit looking for a job that they really need and not starve? Must be nice... I haven't noticed a large uptick in the homeless population in my neck of the woods.

Posted by Tex at July 20, 2005 11:28 AM

As for not trusting Greenspan you forget this is the same guy that was under Clinton. Did he lie all those years also?

Well one could make the case for lying when he sold the nation on fixing Social Security by establishing the trust fund so we could build up a nest egg for when the boomers retired.

You're to quick to answer your own questions Centrist.

Posted by at July 20, 2005 11:28 AM

Twenty somethings living with mom and dad.

Married couples making due with one income instead of two.

Posted by at July 20, 2005 11:32 AM

I seriously think you guys are not happy unless there is bad news every damn day. I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.
\Do you ever listen to yourself and your thought processes. What a sick individual you are if you think anyone here actually enjoys this kind of news.

No, I don't enjoy the reality of 10,000 people losing their jobs. I just reported it. I personally don't have a problem and am gamefully employed as is my spouse. Yes my family is very lucky. But where I differ and what I can do that you are totally incapable of (but not surprising since you don't understand what empathy is and definitely lack the ability to take someone elses' perspective) is realize that 10,000 people now do have a serious problem and I can pronounce that...it's called Unemployment. Yes these 10,000 people will lose their incomes, income that probably provides for things such as food, shelter, healthcare for them and their families...you know essentials. That's the difference I actually care about those people and YOU only care about yourself.

Posted by at July 20, 2005 11:45 AM

good point anon. I guess I hadn't thought it through enough. However, I am a 20 something and the only friends I have from school that don't have a job yet are pretty worthless slackers.

Posted by Tex at July 20, 2005 11:49 AM

Mary (not to distract the trolls or anything)

Yeah, I've been reading the SSCI too. It certainly looks like there were pockets of intelligence officers who were ensuring Dick retained his plausible deniability, doesn't it. Also, it took almost forever for the forged documents to get translated, which delayed CIA getting their second copies--and the translation obscured some of the obvious signs of forgery. (The INR guy, of course, was able to read them right away.) Anyway, I'm thinking, "There's not ANYONE at CIA who can read FRENCH????" Geez. If they're doing all their intelligence analysis in translation, no wonder we're in deep shit.

Posted by emptywheel at July 20, 2005 11:53 AM

It amazes me the way some people think.....

Posted by Centrist at July 20, 2005 12:44 PM
LOL! funny you should say that. Can't quite put my finger on why that statement coming from you of all people would get to me. Oh maybe it's as you claim and you're not miserable or maybe it's the irony.

Limit myself to liberal blogs, are you crazy, where else would I get my chuckles and laughter for the day except for a good stroll over to powerline, LGF,and Instapukit. Only thing is many of those sites don't allow comments...wonder why?

Posted by at July 20, 2005 12:59 PM

you're quite welcome..the man is a fraud ..glad to see you've come around....thanks pal

Wow!

And all I wrote was "calm down".

No CAPS.

No exclamation points!!!!

You need to get laid or something.

Posted by muckcat at July 20, 2005 01:05 PM

Well, he seems to be enjoying it.

Centrist, your definitions of "far-left" and "far-right" are pretty narrow. Far-left is Communism, or perhaps anarcho-syndicalism. Far-right is Fascism, or some other ideology insisting on subjugation of the population by elites. Certainly, there are traces of those positions on the two sides of the conversation here at TLC, but considering the actual breadth of the ideological spectrum, folks around here aren't all that radical one way or the other. ('Cept maybe Bendito. That guy's pretty filled with hate. Oh, and argus. He might be a commie.)

Posted by Matt Davis at July 20, 2005 01:31 PM

I'd say mikey is far-gone, but that's just me.

Posted by iamcoyote at July 20, 2005 02:10 PM

HP is cutting overhead jobs. Information technology, human resources, and the like. These days, those skills are as easy because of cheap labor worldwide.

Globalization.

They're also converting their pension system to a 401k style system, and will contribute 6%. They are also ending medical benefits for future retirees.

At least they're trying to stay in business. What's GM doing, playing the fiddle while the American car industry burns?

Posted by muckdog at July 20, 2005 02:56 PM

They're also converting their pension system to a 401k style system, and will contribute 6%.

I thought I read that they were going to stop contributing to the pension program.
