There are so many things wrong with this. There should be an investigation of the bush admin in the fuel shortage in CA of 2001-2002. Where are you CA? Please don't let them rip you off again.
Posted by caroline at July 27, 2005 09:48 PMThe Democrats are not going to re-acquire power for a long time, Steve. Not that I don't want them to, but I don't think most people on this board really understand that a change has been made in the political process, and the corruption that exists is the tool that will be used to stop Democrats from being the majority in Congress.

Posted by Judith at July 28, 2005 05:07 AMSteve, we have a one party system and will have for a long time. My advise- get out of this crazy country asap. Also, yes Steve you are correct - if and when the dems get any power they will fuck over the American people just like the GOP is doing now.
Posted by jj at July 28, 2005 07:33 AMWell, eastern europe had communist dictatorships for 40+ years. If the system proves to be too rotten, hopefully it won't take 40 years before enough people take to the streets and thke their nation back.

Posted by Goyo at July 28, 2005 10:08 AMI thought you’d be interested in this video about Bush’s nomination
of Chris Cox to run the SEC, http://stopcox.org, released this week
by the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights
(http://ConsumerWatchdog.org).
The Senate committee vote was today and the Dems don’t appear willing
to stand up to Cox, despite his horrible record on investor
protection issues and his own dubious past as the lawyer who withheld
info from state regulators about a massive ponzi scheme that took
California small investors for more than $130 million. And, of
course, in the wake of Enron, WorldCom, et al, you’d think they would
be demanding Bush give them someone that American investors and
retirees can trust... Anyway, I think you’ll find the video piece
funny and worth linking to if you’re writing about the Cox
nomination, which has been dangerously under the radar — overshadowed
by Bolton and now Roberts.
Here are a couple of links:

jj, I hope you don't really beleive this, because it's nihilist idiocy.
I know it's tempting to just shout "a pox on both your houses!" and try to think of yourself as above it all, but what does that solve? How can anyone have a positive impact if they just throw up their hands and say "that it, we're all going to die!". Such prophecies tend to be self-fulfilling.
I don't believe the Democrats will ever be this bad. Why? Because their own constituents will call them on it if they are. The Republicans won't do that; they value winning above all else.
Posted by Doug at July 28, 2005 07:06 PMFirst of all, if the Democrats do reacquire power in Congress, we have to make sure that all of the congressmen and women that sided with the Republicans on issues like CAFTA, are gone. The Democratic Party needs fresher people. I mean some of the Senators are great for ticking Republicans off (Kennedy), but that is not going to help.
The Republicans have redefined basically our entire language system. They frame everything very carefully. Democrats need to start doing that (Dean already does), and stop being so spineless.
Posted by Samantha at July 29, 2005 10:19 AMIf we are to have any hope at all of every regaining power, we must write our representatives NOW and urge them to do whatever necessary to ensure we get rid of those evoting machines that leave no paper trail or all our handwringing will have been for naught. Remember, it's who COUNTS the votes that counts! The last two presidential elections should have made that crystal-clear. Write your representatives today!
Posted by Alan Charles at July 29, 2005 11:13 AMThree stolen elections in a row and the fucking country acted like everything was just hunky dory. The Republic is dead. It died on December 12, 2000.
