Wow, sounds like a Who's Who list of the Bush Family Crime Syndicate.
Posted by at July 29, 2005 01:01 PMI'm not a hundred percent sure, but the rules governing grand jury secrecy don't seem to apply to people who are no longer a "lawyer for the government."
Firing Fitzgerald, therefore, might remove him from any responsibility to keep quiet. Would he keep quiet anyway? Maybe. Maybe it would depend on just how pissed off he got.
Posted by Matt Davis at July 29, 2005 01:08 PMSo what else is new? Bush gives the nation the finger again and walks away laughing.
Posted by Vinnie at July 29, 2005 01:13 PMAs I've demonstrated before, Fitzgerald should be fired or in jail.
Either outcome is acceptible, although the latter is more deserving.
Posted by Al at July 29, 2005 02:06 PMFired or jailed? He is the only Republican I have seen with any integrity in the last few years. Is that a jailable offense now?
Posted by Adam at July 29, 2005 02:12 PMFitzgerald is working to undermine the government of the United States during a war for our survival. Whether he was a Republican or not is of no consequece. I am not blindly loyal to my party.
I will not tolerate, however, attempts to undermine the security of the United states.
Posted by Al at July 29, 2005 02:19 PMal's on another jihad. what else is new?

so you're calling for rove to be fired? about time.
Posted by benjoya at July 29, 2005 02:24 PMAs I've demonstrated before, Fitzgerald should be fired or in jail.
"demonstrated"? i think the word you're looking for is "claimed." or "babbled"
Posted by benjoya at July 29, 2005 02:25 PMAs I've demonstrated before, Fitzgerald should be fired or in jail.
what was the name of that crime he committed? heresy? (i think that's only a crime in your native saudi arabia)
Posted by benjoya at July 29, 2005 02:27 PMAs I've demonstrated before, Fitzgerald should be fired or in jail.
Wow, must have missed that demonstration. Did you also levitate while monkeys flew out of your arse?
Fitzgerald is working to undermine the government of the United States during a war for our survival.
Ahh, I see now where the misunderstanding is. What Fitzgerald is in fact doing is working to hold those to account who are working to undermine the United States. You know, the ones who interfered with the CIA's ability to do its job in protecting us from weapons of mass destruction. So it seems you've just missed that bit of the sentence in the middle. I hope I've helped to clear things up for you.
I will not tolerate, however, attempts to undermine the security of the United states.
Absolutely! So I welcome your support in efforts to impeach George W. Bush.
Very prescient and engaging. This story just keeps on getting murkier.
Posted by obelus at July 29, 2005 02:59 PMBTW Al, Fitzgerald is also undermining the rampant corruption in Chicago City Government hiring practices at the moment. He is seriously compromising the job security of Mayor Daley flacks and his "crimes" are proving a bane to the Mafioso ties lurking behind the curtains of the Chicago machine. Let's whack the sumbitch and let him swim with the fishes. Whaddya say, Al?
Posted by obelus at July 29, 2005 03:14 PMal's on another jihad. what else is new?
al's on another planet ... bizzaro world.

Yeah, also known as Conservative America. That's the problem. :)
Posted by Doug at July 29, 2005 03:45 PMWhat were your inspirations for this post?
Posted by Susan Hudgens at July 29, 2005 03:46 PMYikes Susan, it looks like you beat me to the punch by about an hour. Great minds, and all that ....
But seriously, I saw the mention in ABC News' The Note this morning, and then remembered the stuff that we had written about McCallum last month and realized that he could be the one guy left in the organization that would have no problem or conflict in pulling the trigger.
Posted by Steve Soto at July 29, 2005 03:50 PMWhy is your pop up window for posting comments not a normal browser pop up window?
Centrist, do you mean like when you click on the link that is part of the Posted signature? Do you want a full browser window when someone puts a link in the text of the comment? Let me know and I'll figure out how to make that work.
Posted by Mary at July 29, 2005 08:33 PMWell, I remember the Saturday Night Massacre. That's one of those events that I can still tell you where I was and what I was doing when it occurred that Sunday morning. I can only hope that the backlash of firing Fitzgerald is the same as when Cox was fired. Of course, then we had a free and independent media.

Oh Al. You are going to look so cute when you and the line of other traitors drop through the floor and your respective C1 vertebrae separates from your skulls as the rope catches you short of the floor.
Posted by phidipides at July 30, 2005 08:34 AMI wonder if the fact that McCallum was in the same year of Skull & Bones at Yale as Bush could be used to force him to recuse himself. If Fitzgerald were to indict Bush or to name him as unindicted coconspirator, could that create a conflict of interest for McCallum?
