It looks like bush is getting ready to pitch that dog, doesn't it?
Posted by iamcoyote at August 3, 2005 10:46 AMSteve, who said he wants to cut brush? I have it on good sources that after all the hard work Bush has done lately getting DeLay and Rove off the hook with the media, he wants to relax down in Crawford and finish that book he started back in 2001: "My Pet Goat."
Posted by Hank at August 3, 2005 10:50 AMHe's also got lots of pretzel-eatin' to do, followed by falling off of his bike a few dozen times.

Posted by dubya at August 3, 2005 10:58 AMfourteen Marines died today while Mr."HARD WORK" Bush goofed around on some cedar infested dirt in Texas. Sad excuse for a president.
Posted by T2 at August 3, 2005 11:23 AMSteve...I agree. Of all the things, the Post should not be concerned about his vacation. Let him be. In a strange way it is good for the country if he is on vacation.

In all honesty if he'd been sitting at his desk in the Oval Office those same Marines would have died just the same.
There is no relationship between his physical whereabouts and his dismal job performance. He's a fuckup no matter where he is.
Posted by muckcat at August 3, 2005 11:29 AMAs far as I am concerned, Bush can stay down in Crawford and disconnect the phone. He is in full retreat. His foreign policy is in shambles, his domestic agenda is a non-starter. The ideological framework that has driven his government is slowly becoming more and more discredited. The GOP have one more fight in them and that is the midterms. If efforts fail there, the whole idiotic movement will begin to collapse.
Rest up, Bush. You are in for the political fight of your life.
Posted by obelus at August 3, 2005 11:34 AMI'm sorry to say that I don't believe the 2006 mid-term elections will be a watershed for the Democrats. This country has more suffering to endure under this cabal before anything will change.
Posted by muckcat at August 3, 2005 11:47 AMI have to agree with muckcat. People still don't realize that the goal of the GOP is to undo the policies that underpin the modern American way of life. They still think that it's just about curbing excessive liberalism.
Social Security was a bit of a wake-up call, but won't be enough. I'm hoping that we've had a serious freak-out of some sort by 2008, so we can slap a tourniquet on things, but that may not cut it. We may have to have a second Great Depression before people remember why the policies we followed for the last few decades are worth keeping.
Posted by dj moonbat at August 3, 2005 11:53 AMi believe that lieing us into a war for oil was an over reach on the part of this administation..they thought they would be in and out with iraqis' laying wreaths at our feet..hasn't exactly panned out that way..it is the biggest blunder and miscalculation in the history of this country...and we were lied to to boot....it wiil be their legacy and their undoing...osama bin laden is winning..because of the fraud and his minions..
Posted by dennis at August 3, 2005 12:06 PMThe further President Bush is from Washington D.C., the better I sleep at night. ;)

Jim, I'm just the opposite. I get nervous when he heads for Crawford. I keep thinking, does he know something is about to happen that we should know about?

My God, I wish this would become a part of this daily background info we DEMS give the American people about this present.
We really ought to stress the patent, blatant absurdity of a President of the United States taking a FIVE WEEK vacation during the middle of a war, that he launched without provocation.
Pres. Bush is thumbing his nose at the American people and I think that should be pointed out.
The economy is still stagnant with good and bad signs, the GOP just passed a corporate welfare "energy bill" to subsidize energy companies that already made $7.4 billion in pure profits in the first quarter alone, and in case it's not obvious, things aren't going well for the United States in Iraq.
Showing the flippant disregard with which this administration greets any and all of the problems that this nation faces should be stressed.
Setting a record for vacation days is emblematic of this fact and should absolutely not go unnoticed in Democratic circles.

I wonder how long he was in front of the mirror getting ready for this picture. "I think it will look great if I have my tie over my shoulder." "Does the W04 pin look good on my lapel?"
Posted by Middleman at August 4, 2005 08:13 PMBush says the presidency is hard work, that is hard work he is adept at avoiding. A five-week vacation does strike me as excessive for such a well-rested president as Bush. What I don't get is why he wants to spend all that time in Texas in mid-summer. Most sensible people seek to avoid Texas in mid-summer. Maybe that explains why Bush seems to have taken too much sun. He has.
