I think that this kind of idea, trying to adopt a seemingly innocuous variation of the Bush idea, will backfire. It's folly. We are living in a winner-take-all world; no legislation that represents compromise can survive.
Naivete on this issue will kill social security.

Posted by give it up at August 7, 2005 07:32 AMMary - thanks of the compliment. Didn't inspire the sort of dialogue or sugestions that I hoped for. This was not an "off the top of my head" idea. I thought about for a long time before posting it. The only thing I would change is the surcharge should also apply to corporations.
