Thanks for all the hard work, Mary!
Posted by iamcoyote at August 7, 2005 06:31 AMYes indeed, thanks Mary. I'm trying to unpack as I just moved, but I was giving my mom a computer lesson at her place the other day and I showed her the left coaster. She could see how enthralled I was, and said (talk about snark!), "I can see why you're getting nothing done!" haha

Posted by emal at August 7, 2005 07:14 AMWow, the comments haven't been so fast in months. I'm used to leaving a piece of doggrel and leaving the pop-up window open for 5 minutes until it refreshed.
Posted by idiosynchronic at August 7, 2005 07:45 AMCame across this organization, Faith and Action, and it really just gave me the creeps. Here's part of their mission statement:
"Faith and Action is a Christian outreach whose mission is to to reintroduce the Word of God into the public debate surrounding legislation and policy matters. Our mission field spans Pennsylvania Avenue, from the White House to the U.S. Capitol and the U.S. Supreme Court. Through news conferences, symposia, panel discussions, literature distribution, the Internet, and face-to-face conversations with key Washington leaders, we gently confront these critical public policy makers with the powerful claims of the Gospel, as well as reminders of the prominent role that the Word of God played in the creation of our nation and its laws." (emphasis mine)
Also, check out their Ten Commandments Project. They "present stone artwork tablets of the Ten Commandments to elected and appointed officials, and others who make decisions that affect our lives and the lives of our children. We ask recipients to display and to obey the Commandments. During these ceremonial presentations, the Gospel is shared and there is a time of prayer for our nation and her leaders." (empahsis mine)
One of the listed recipients is Senator Joe Lieberman, an Orthodox Jew. He's inviting them in to share the Gospel with him?? I can't believe he supports an orgnization that wants to spread Christianity throught government. I wonder if they're ready to take back the Ten Commandments Leadership Award they gave Bush.

It gets substantially worse when you're writing for the blog--fiercely, fiercely habit-forming. Someday soon, the world may need a 12-step program for people who had to quit blog consumption after it ruined their lives.
Posted by dj moonbat at August 7, 2005 11:40 AMWow, that IS faster! Big ups, Mary!
Posted by dj moonbat at August 7, 2005 11:42 AMAsians in WWII were readily characterized in Allied propaganda as inferiors. Were those in America of German or Italian descent interned during WWII? No - only the Asians from all over the Americas - North and South.
This appeared in an early thread but is false information. Not only were many of Italian and German descent interned, FDR pressured South American countries to turn over their aliens (and some who were not aliens) to the U.S. and they were interned here. (Mostly in Texas at Crystal City). Some (including Jews) were traded back to the Germans for American citizens the Germans held.
